hmm..i couldnt really find a place to put this..soooo..i decided here would be good..haha..i was just wondering if any of you have or want a tongue piercing..

if you have one..did it hurt and how long did it take to heal??

if you want one..whats stopped you from getting it??

i really want one, but im afraid that its gonna hurt real bad..and if you think about it..if it can close within 2 hours..thats your body telling you that theres not supposed to be a hole there..but i still want it done

I don't have one but my brother and a few of my friends have had one. They said it doesnt hurt that bad, but it messes up your teeth. Chipping and stuff after awhile. Also, you have to think about infections.. my friend got hers pierced and a couple days later her tongue swelled up and she had to take it out... so :o) do what you want, i think it looks cool if you have a long enough tongue, I hate it when people get it pierced really far up on the tongue, it just looks retarded. :) hope that helps?

well its supposed to be swollen for about a week and a half or so..i was reading about it online and have talked to some friends and they say..

"It usually takes four to six weeks for the piercing to completely heal, but your tongue will swell dramatically during the first couple days. Fret not -- apply ice and drink plenty of water. Don't smoke, don't kiss, rinse with warm salt water, and avoid spicy foods. After you've completely healed, you won't notice the piercing at all. It's true."

and yeah..i`ve thought about infections too..which is another reason im scared..LoL i hate it when ppl do that too..when its like..almost at the tip of their tongue..haha

I don't want one. But my friend has one and I think she did it herself. I can't remember...but she does all her own piercings. She said it was swollen for a couple days and then went away.

uh i dont know much about tounge percings but my friend told me you cant eat really hard food for liek 2 weeks.

That does look pretty awesome, but I'd never do it.
You'd get used to it for a while, but for the first few months, I bet you could barely eat or drink much of anything, and it would most likely almost be a chore to talk.

I do want my eyebrow pierced, however.

I heard the eyebrow doesn't hurt at all! I like lip piercings. <3 they are my fav...though i dont think i could do it. x_x

I had a tongue piercing. It doesn't hurt getting it done. Plus, all that jibber about talking weird afterwards is just rubbish. You can talk normally right after getting it pierced. You only sound funny if you concentrate too much on the bar in your mouth. It'll be about two weeks before you can start changing the bar. It takes about 4 months for it to completely heal. The key to keeping it from getting it infected is gargling with warm salt water every morning and evening. Don't use mouthwash for about a month or so after having the piercing, it'll just irritate the wound and might cause a slight swell. (that happened to me... and it ITCHED like crazy) Right after having your tongue pierced, drink something really cold and suck on ice for the next day (when you can, oh and make sure the ball of the piercing doesn't get stuck in the ice) to keep the swelling down. Oh yeah, don't click/run the bar or balls of your piercing over your teeth, you could crack your teeth doing that. (yes... another personal experience. it was NOT a fun trip to the dentist) It'll hurt to eat for a good 3 to 5 days afterward. (liquid diet, hehe) Be VERY careful while chewing, you might let your tongue flop to the side and end up biting down on your bar/ball. (NOT a pleasant feeling) Um... what else... oh yes, every now and then when you change the bar, you may find that some weird white gunk comes out of the hole in your tongue... that's dead skin and food. Regular cleaning is good... very good. Um... okay. Yeah. Good luck with your piercing, if you get it.

and my brother told me some girl in his class was playing with her tongue rings and then she ended up choking on it

okay... after reading everyone's replies... here's mine...

i've had my tongue pierced for about 3 years now. i've had no major probelms with at all. it only took 2 days for the swelling to go down. and the morning after i got it pierced, i was grubbing down on korean bbq and drinking like a fish! (i'm legal, don't worry)

the only problems i ran into, which are very minor, were the facts that #1:I could barely touch my nose with my tongue anymore. #2:It was a challenge to say words like 'shit' or anything with the 'sh' sound...but I managed after a while. and #3:I kept wanting to chew it (the barbell) like candy.

to avoid any problems like the 'pussing' and other infections or swelling, as with any other piercing you get, you've GOT TO KEEP IT CLEAN! i cannot stress enough how clean you have to keep this piercing! here are some tips that i can guarantee will help you if you ever decide to get your tongue pierced...

1)You CAN use mouthwash. Just make sure it doesn't have alcohol in it... I used Scope and it worked perfectly! And carry a small bottle of it around with you even after your piercing has healed just to maintain a healthy piercing and not to mention sweet breath! Remember, rinse your mouth out after every meal, cigarette, kiss, and other things involving your mouth...

2)A friend of mine suggested, FOR FASTER HEALING, that I use a product called GLY-OXIDE. It's used by people that get cold sores from oral appliances like braces and retainers. Apply about 5 drops directly to the piercing and swish it around for about 2 minutes after every meal and you'll be just fine.

3)Do NOT attempt to replace the barbell ON YOUR OWN! ESPECIALLY the FIRST time! Most piercings are secured on so tight that you'll need pliers to get them off. And because of this fact, by trying to unscrew the barbell balls yourself, you run the risk of tearing your piercing hole. And oh what a horrible pain it is to rip a piercing!!

Some other stuff...
1)Your tongue is SUPPOSED to swell. For everyone, the time is different. Some people's only swell for like 2 days (like mine) and some can last up to 2 weeks. It just depends on the person and their genetic makeup.

2)It DOES hurt. Whether it hurts a little or a lot, again, just depends on the person. It also depends on their threshold of pain. Some people actually like pain. Mine, personally though, didn't hurt at all. I didn't feel any pain at all. But I have a very high threshold for pain.

but other than that, its really sanitary, like i have to rinse my mouth out with this mouthwash stuff after every meal so it doesnt get infected. its really annoying lol
