Saving Tommy, ........I have no idea why. Options

Something I was thinking about during class today.. Basically just a conversation. It's not really much of a story.

Two college students sat in a resturuant just outside the city. Chatting over morning coffee and bacon and eggs, they talked about their spring break plans.

"I've never been high, or wasted.. for that matter..I don't know if I want to go Josh. I think I'd regret it."
"Oh, believe me Tommy, I had the best time. I puked my guts out all over Dimas and Melanie had to stop me from screwing around with Kirstie the whole damn night. Man it was great. We were just all walking down the street, man, had some awesome leftovers too... but some kids came up and stole them when I finally passed out.."
"That was the best time you've ever had? I'd feel disgusting"
"Oh, yeah, but only for a little while. no, about a year ago, I got screwed by this girl- didn't know how old she was, but the morning after her parents came by and threatened to file charges, I GOT SO DAMN LUCKY. They didn't know my name- and MAN it was awesome, DUDE this is like something I want you to do okay? Just come chill with me and Kirstie and Mel.. Maybe we can get Dimas drunk enough to light himself on fire again... PARTY AT THE LAKE, WooOOOOOOOOT!"
At this point in their conversation a guy looking about 21 got up from the table behind them, and walked around the corner to look at them disbelievingly

"Hold on a second i couldn't HELP but overhearing...Dimas, Daniel Dimas? You were at his place on New years, last year?...... You're the one that raped my little sister?"
"What?"
"Yeah, you heard me. She was 14 asswipe"
"Now hold on a second.."
"No, I don't think I will. You know she had to get an abortion because of you? at 14? All because of some drunken nobody..."
"You said rape, it was consensual. She never said no. I didn't know how old she was."
"She was passed out, and you know it. Screwing around with a little girl when she's too sick to notice you doing it isn't consensual. Besides it's the law. Statuatory rape. How old are you? What 19? You should f**king know better. I want you to know you ruined her life."

Tommy got up from the table, slowly, using his hands to steady him. and looked at the guy. He took a step forward and held out his hand to 'the guy.'
"Thank you. You just saved my life."

The guy, looking shaken took Tommy's hand and shook it.. "You're welcome."

Tommy put a 20 dollar bill on the table and looked at Josh.

"You should listen to him too...... It's no life, what you're living. See if you can use the leftover fifteen bucks there for something other than means of destroying yourself. I'm not going with you this week."
"What the f**k man? You're going to ditch me because of this jerk? You're going to miss out on one of the best times we're going to have in our young adult lives? f**k that man. Forget you."
"I don't think I'll ever forget you."
Tommy got in his car and drove back to the city...
