I guess this poet's gone into monologue mode.

I feel like a piece of driftwood lost in the middle of a big storm. Sitting in class I look around to find everyone gathered together with their friends telling stories of how they went home completely trashed last week, or bragging about how much alcohol they can sponge up before vomiting. Yay...what fun. I don't understand how you can do that to yourself. And as I comprehend the differences between those people and myself, I find that we're from very different worlds. Walking through the school doors I feel myself spiraling down a dimensional warp. I'm Alice down the rabbit hole, and when I come up on the other side what I see is a bizarre world where people party as if they'll die tomorrow and drinking until their bodies can no longer sustain the poisons they're throwing inside. Where sex and dating is a game and thinking of the future is forbidden. It scares me to say that I'm part of this "Generation Y", because I feel so alone. Prometheus on his rock, waiting for the next day's torture. Come vultures, take my liver. Take my eyes so that I may no longer witness such trivial tragedies. Take my heart so that it won't hurt anymore.

Wow Naomi, wow. I like this piece a lot. I like how you referenced it to Alice in Wonderland. I also like the last few lines.

Agreed. Your allusions to the classic Alice and Wonderland approach, as well as Prometheus line, is really appealing. :D I agree to some extent that we live in a society where most teenagers party hard, drink a lot, do drugs, etc. Although it also depends on the environment and where you live. People live too much for the moment, ignoring the past ("the past is the past. Who cares anymore") and destroying their upcoming future.

Naomi.. we're so much alike, that it's scary.

While people are having their fun now, later they'll realize what they threw away, and what they may've lost by "living for the moment". I agree with you completely. I love the way you used the metaphor of Alice in Wonderland.
