I won't be back to check this. But just so there's a point to this thread: How many of you actually know Christians that show their beliefs through their actions and words rather than just the line, "I'm a Christian"?

There are some students, not just adults, that I know act like what you can call "christian". They actually manage to keep up their fellowship with others, never quit on their reading, and ultimately, their behavior shows.

Sadly, those people are looked upon as "pushovers" by being too nice I mean they aren't perfect but at least they try to show the kindness part of Christianity. Pretty much, you can talk to them for the first time and conclude "s/he's a christian.

there was this one time where this bible teacher and her husband wanted to convert my family. we were just like, um..ok we don't want to convert. they wouldn't leave us alone either. they came every weekend knocking on our door for months, i think. soo damn annoying. they stopped when we told them we were moving, but they still came back once or twice. there's this christian network on TV. so annoying too, even though they talk about other religions. they're trying to get people in canada to sponsor kids/families in poverty and teach them about Jesus. i mean, the only they do is get others to convert, but what do they do? they don't even follow the religious beliefs; and i'm not christian but i know the 10 commandments and i know for a fact that many don't follow it.

it's not just adults. my friend told me that this guy tried to get her to convert to christianity and he was pushing it on her. i mean, come on! are you dumb? no means NO.

I agree..I said I didn't believe in god this ONE time in my english class and there was this extreme christian there and he went off on me about why I didn't believe in god and I was about to slap him. Because it's my decision, not anyone else's.

And to answer the question, yes, I do know people who live by the Bible. They let God's love show through their actions instead of their words. I also know hypocrites, but guess what? God doesn't like hypocrisy. It is explicity stated in the Bible that hypocrites are an abomination to Him.

A cursory inspection of their beliefs is all it takes to discern that, even without further study. Not to mention, it is only in recent years that they even wanted to be called Christians. They consider all the other churches an abomination (read the Book of Mormon) and wanted to be considered a new religion altogether.

Imagine something with me for a moment. Imagine that you were blind your entire life. Let's say you went to a certain doctor, and he administered a brand new drug giving you sight. Can you imagine what it would be like to suddenly be able to see? Can you imagine taking in all the shapes and colors for the first time? Suddenly, everything would take on a new meaning.

So what you're telling me is that, if you don't stick to the core characteristics of Christianity, then you belong to a cult? So Buddhism is a cult? Hinduism, Sikhism are cults?
Well if we're going to get on this topic, what exactly would you, yourself, define as a cult? Because to someone in another religion, Christianity could be considered a cult. Someone in another religion could think any other belief system other than their own could consider it a cult.

I consider a cult to be a group of people having obsessive religious beliefs regarded by others as being strange or against their beliefs. When a belief system gets to a point where human sacrifice, torture, or obvious immorality is put to use, then it is considered a cult. The Oxford dictionary defines it as:
1.a A system of religious veneration and devotion directed towards a particular figure or object.
b. A relatively small group of people having religious beliefs or practices regarded by others as strange or sinister.

With that being said, someone against Christianity could think of it as being a cult, because it goes against their own personal beliefs.

Mormons are just a branch off of Christianity. Sure, these beliefs may have changed or evolved over time, but that does not make them a cult.

It is not a branch of Christianity. The leaders did not even want it considered that until more recent years. Look into their beliefs. They are radically different from the beliefs of any other Christian branch. They are not Christians. Something I find funny, though a tad off-topic, Mormon Air Force chaplains are the only ones who don't have to have a seminary degree.

Every e-mail she sends me is all about god and how he graces out life everyday and that I should feel blessed because he is so great. Yeah, okay. I don't even believe in god. She should seriously just become a nun and live in a convent. I think the other nuns would gang up and kill her because she was talking about god so much.
