depends where I guess.
If it's an abandoned building it could be art, if it's like a school or business, then it would be crime.
Thats how I see it.

it depends on what the graffiti is and where it is. =/
i think it looks really cool but whenever it is written all over a city or town, it looks kinda bad. ermm.gif

graffiti. because u see it under bridges and on public property where it's illegal...its so sad how they make it look trashy...even though it's supposedly a form of "art".

i think this should be moved to debate.

There isn't much of a graffiti problem here.
Yeah, there is some on the trains and on a few old buildings downtown, but it's not an issue.
Hm..
I think it is both an art and a crime, because you're defacing someone else's property, but it also could be seen as art from someone else's perspective.

^^Being that I used to live in LA I used to see a lot of graffitti, now that I live in the OC I see... none, at all, boring.

I don't do graffitti on any property, when im bored I just pop out a piece of paper or something and start doing it on that.

And Jay, you can do graffitti if you have a creative mind, because you dont learn how to do it. You just do it.

both..I remember watching a graffiti video in my pottery class, and it just depends on who's perspective it is. First I thought it was a crime only, but some of it actually is really nice and has lots of meaning into it..rather than someone who just puts their initials in graffiti on a building.

It is a crime. That isn't to say that sometimes it couldn't be considered art, just that it shouldn't be done somewhere like a school building. Get permission from someone, instead of drawing "art" somewhere where someone is going to have to take hours to get it off.

It's crime in my view. I mean, if it was on paper, or on the peoples' own houses, or on somewhere where they're actually allowed to do it, then it's art. Most of the time it's unwanted, and private property, or just not their property.

It really depends where it's done. Obviously, if it's not on your property, then it's a crime. At least that's how I see it.

Any graffiti on property where you don't have the owner's permission is a crime. And so is tagging. I hate that. But most graffiti I see as being an expression of yourself and what you're feeling. I know a lot of people that are really talented at it.

i think it depends on what kind of graffiti it is...if its like just tagging your name all over the place or if you like mess up other peoples property then its a crime...but i guess you can call it art if its actually like something meaningful...like a picture of some sort...iernoo blink.gif

It all depends, like everyone else is saying. BUT the actual point of graffiti is to be put on subways, trains, and buses. Then it went on to walls of buildings. If I was to decide, I'll call it ART!, not a crime!

if it really has a meaning. it's art. If it's something like NKB KILLAZ 4 LYFE---on any surface, it's trash. I say that because "pride is the sign of a foolish man". i seldom see graffiti-art. but when i do, it is really worthwhile to take a look at.

To me; If it's on a building and looks really nice; and it looks like people took a lot of time on it; it`s art.
But if its on lockers or something; and it looks messy and as if someone did it to look good; then its crime.

It depends where or how it is marked. When done without the property owner's consent it constitutes illegal vandalism. When done with the owner's consent, or done in an adandonned buildings or walls, then i'll consider it as an art. _smile.gif

art, if it's pretty. like alot of times i see these huge murals of just a word or something, nicely colored and stuff. and thats alot better than just a few crappy scribbles. but generally, i take it was crime if its on private property, like a truck or a house. but if it's on some empty factory wall, then whatever.

Like most people said, it really depends on what kind of graffiti you're doing.
I hate people who just scrible their name on the walls. It's not even colorful!
But beautiful graffiti with lots of colors and actually like a painting, that's art.

Most of the time I think it's a crime.. Other times when I KNOW it's legal, it's not. It's legal if it look slike the building or wall was grafiti-fied in a way that sends a message or something.. It looks more like art, rather than something done really quick and messy. I see a lot of the quick and messy stuff, and IMO, it's lame, no offense to anyone who does it. I'm sick of having to see people writing "blah blah blah gang" and stuff like that on walls. I feel sorry for this one truck that got tagged up and repainted then tagged up again. ermm.gif

Only to a certain extent, would I consider it as art. Now, if the person DREW something and wrote stuff in graffitti-style on a paper or a poster, I think that's art becuase they're expressing themselves and not damaging property.

I think if you do it on a building somewhere, it's crime. And tho it doesn't seem all that artistic to me, if its not on like, public or private property, sure it's art. biggrin.gif

Graffiti itself is art, but if you do it on a building I think it'd be considered as a crime for vandalism.

some shops hired grafitti artists to graffiti their shop
it looked really nice (make it stand out from the other shops laugh.gif)

so it depends what you use it for

ART!!! provided it is non-vulgar... there are limits... but the grafitti that isnt slandereous is art... and that is why some art grafitti murals are left up around us (well also b.c my down wont pay to have em removed lol)

it depends, but in most cases its crime.
because a lot of people obviously cant tag for sh*t, they just look like a bunch of scrippled letters

If you do it on your own property, it's art.
Do it somewhere else without permission, you're a criminal.

Would it be called art or crime if it were to be a vandalism that represents good message to all?

it really depends on where its at and what ppl do with it. ppl that are stupid and just do random lines across lockers are stupid. there are places that are specifically made for ppl to show off their artwork.

I think it's art. I mean when an hour train is going by in Chicago, it's always fun to look at graffiti. When you see tons of broke down buildings in the city, it's always nice to look at graff cool.gif iti.

depends where I guess.
If it's an abandoned building it could be art, if it's like a school or business, then it would be crime.
Thats how I see it.

I consider most graffiti markings to be crime, but if I see a colorful, detailed mural on the side of a building or on the side of an over pass then I would definitley consider that are. Things like tagging gang names on the sides of buildings is considered a crime.
