(this is a little long and confusing)
so earlier this week, we had to choose what electives we want for next year (9th grade, start of high school). they talked about what classes you needed to graduate. i decided to not take orchestra next year (i'm not really into it anymore. too troublesome) so i thought i'd try yearbook. i figured all the spots would have been taken already, but i put it anyway. my second choice was Hype and Flash- arts and computer arts, then orchestra 3rd as a sort of last resort.
Since yearbook was probably already taken, i would probably get art. so i got my mom to sign it and turned it in today (deadline). so my dad just hears about this and starts practically shouting at me to change it because i cant graduate without one year of arts/music. the form said yearbook was considered art!!! and he does NOT understand that i probably wont get it anyway!!! he's telling me to go ask my counselor if it's considered art or not, and if it is, it's fine. yet he's still practically SCREAMING at me about it!!! UGGH (there isn't any face that can show how mad i am)

srry this was kind of just a rant...

does anyone have any problems with your parents like this?

well im graduation too and for me i picked photography.. which is like year book.. just tell your parents if u make it it will require realy hard work and will make you more deticated to your work.. and just say orchestra doesnt make me happy and i want to do yearbook.. but i dont know if yearbook has to do with art but it does with photos so i guess so.. so hopefully your parents will understand.. but yearbook is hard just to warn you since my friend has it.. you have to be good at making layouts.. but you'll do good. Good Luck biggrin.gif

i'm not sure if i'll actually get in though (because they take the first who knows how many kids). but then my dad's like "people go to year book to goof off.... ", "you're going to waste a whole year...." etc....

Well it doesn't really seem to me that your parents are trying to control you, they are just trying to look out for your best interests and are confused about it.

Yeah, doesn't sound like your parents are controlling... my parents are controlling- they tell me what I can and cannot do or see or whatever...

well thats just stupid. just tell him that yearbook is an art and you can use that to graduate too. and yeah, my dad is even worse. i cant to anything like spend the night at my friends houses. i used to be able to, but since i hit 14, he said its inappropriate to spend the night with friends. like i'm sleeping around?? which really doesnt make any sense.

not about my classes or anything for that matter, now i think about it...pinch.gif

my parents don't really tell me what to do, they just kinda guide me. they pretty much let me do whatever i want as long as it isn't hazardous to my health, against the law, and won't hurt me or someone else. innocent.gif

Whoa, your story is kinda like mine...

I'm going to 9th grade next year, too. And I have to take an elective. I've been playing the violin for 4 years, and next year my mom wants me to choose violin considering I've played it for 4 years. I think I want to even though I would have to have it EVERYDAY, ALL YEAR. I'm really not sure what to choose, but the other electives are horrible.

my parents aren't like that but I recently told them ihave to take night school and summer school so i can take CISCO (a networking class) next year (senior year) and my mom was like "so all those zero hours (6:30 to 7:15) u were taking were for nothing" and then i explained to her on how i needed more time to take classes cuz i need to get and finish my "RECOMMENDED" program thing for texas or whoever it is so i can have a better looking transcript and then she was okay with it..

.. then i tell her it cost money and she got ticked again.. she got over it when i explained what Cisco was so yeah.. lol.
