I'm sorry that he got deployed. I don't think I can handle it. I'm a girly girl when it comes to fighting and stuff. I just don't think I would emotionally be able to handle it.

Wow, he looks young.
And that's the worst thing to happen, to have someone you love go over to fight. Anyways, I don't think I would make it. I would run away every chance I got. Good luck to your fiance and you! Oh, and congrats. |

of course if I had to, I would. I don't think there's a better way of dying than to die serving your country, even if you don't agree with the war. |

yeah well once your 18 you considered an adult right? And as an adult you have a choice to go serve in the army, and maybe if you're younger you not mature enough or something. My friend/neighbor's brother went to fight in iraq.

I'm sorry for him. I hope everything goes alright for him and you.
Hm, I don't think they should, unless they're generous enough to fight and save the country and all that junk. :\ Of course, a lot of loved ones have been lost.. but he's young. Maybe they should still keep 25+ to go to iraq.. and the underaged to stay and train. But.. it's all the soldiers' choice in my point of view. |

I use to want to join the military and believed that I could handle it emotionally, but after the war broke out, my outlook on it changed. I guess whether or not a person can handle such a thing depends on the individual.
I'll keep your fiance in my prayers so he, along with all the troops, return home safely. Take care. |

Personally, I would never enlist in the military period, so I would never have to face it. But then, with both of my parents being military perhaps I have had an unfair perspective of what they make you do. |

Just by joining the Army and passing all qualifications I believe he can handle it :) Im 17 rite now. My original plan was to join the Marines. Went to a few PT and I was able to handle it. Changed my mind after I found out you got to carry around 50+pds backpacks most of the time. More if your a medic. I hate being weighed down when Im trying to walk/run. Joined the Navy instead.

i said that no one is from this country technically, thats why i said if you think about it.... right now, most people that live in this country are a mutt of different nationalities, but until all the people mix up in this country, to have similar characteristics, we won't have a country country okay, its not just me that made this up. many scientists that study this stuff have said this as their base fact of what their studying -_- |

First, and for the record, I was born in Saigon, Vietnam, but I have been a natuaralized citizen in America for a while and I have lived here for the most part of my life. I consider the US to be MY COUNTRY. I spent the latter part of my childhood here. I rarely consider myself Asian-American unless asked on paper or else I'm just plain American.
America is the country that many ethnic groups can call home. I don't see why we cannot refer to America as "our/my country". If I cannot call it that, then I would say that I have no other country to call my own. A country need not to have one dominant race to be a "country country". By definition, if I can participate in the society and politics of a country, then I am a citizen of that country. If I am a citizen, wouldn't that make America my country if that is my preference? |

It is also a fact that if I am a citizen of that country, I can say that it is my country. Country is not defined by genes or race or birth for that matter... "my country" simply suggests I have citizenship.

How so?
"Technically", if you have American citizenship, you're American. You can be called Asian-American, African-American, Latin-American... etc with all those hyphens, but you'd still have citizenship. Citizenship marks you legally as American by the US Federal Government. I'm sorry if I sound argumentative, know that I don't mean to be. It's just that people make me sad when they say these things with such ease. I feel like if I have to belong somewhere or be labeled as something by nationality, if not my birthplace, it might as well be a place of my own choosing. I belong somewhere on earth... right? And if I need to go to war (God forbid) and fight for the place which I call my own, then I should be able to go with the peace of mind of this battle cry: "I'm fighting for my country". |
