I've never been a really big fan of anime. However, I don't watch any of the shows, etc, etc. Maybe there is something that I'm missing about this because I really don't see what the big deal is about it. Can someone explain to me whats so fascinating about it? I think I might be missing the bigger picture. *i'm slow*

It depends on the person.. There is NO BIG PICTURE some animes interest people and some don't....

Just watch animes which have the genre you like. Like Action, Romance, Comedy and that might give you a spark in anime.
Me I'm a real fan of comedy and I watched Love Hina and wow made me want to watch anime even more. Now I just watch any genre and still enjoy it.

i like the fantasies that they explore or the life revelations that some deal with..

but ones that go too deep annoy me e.g. neon genesis

and of course the animation happy.gif

I'm not quite shure. but i am a huge fan. Go adult swim! nickelodeon has a sad excuse for anime on there. it brings shame to the word anime. _dry.gif

most american cartoons dont really have any substance... only in big movies do you ever see a real plot.. real conflict, emotion, etc. most american cartoons are just there to entertain kids.

anime however isnt just for kids. not only is the illustration, in my opinion, of better quality, but the stories have so much more to think about. you can actually cry watching anime.

the only time i ever cried for a disney cartoon was in bambi, and i was 8

Then maybe you should actually watch it and then judge, instead of making a quick assumption.

There's a difference between cartoons and anime. I like to think anime has an artistic value. It's aesthetically pleasing to watch. And they actually have intricate plots..... it's not like Wile E. Koyote falling off a cliff..... it's a nicely drawn girl whacking a boy away with her mace. Off a cliff.

i like the art, i love the action, the plots. it's not your typical cartoon stories...they have so many unique ideas out there. i like the action scenes..how they draw the fighting scenes so wonderfully. i like the character designs, it's not boring like the american cartoons that i use to watch when i was younger.

Well, some reasons I like anime is that it's SO much better than American cartoons. If you compare cartoons like Codename: Kids Next Door, with anime like Inuyasha, you'll get what I see.
1. Has a lot better illustrations.
2. Has a better plot, doesn't involve secret agents or dumb people.
3. Has comedy, romance, drama, fantasy, action, suspense, and a lot of other types of tv shows.
4. The movies are super smooth and well done.
5. A lot more serious work.
6. For any age.

oh, well, uhm, Kaji was killed by Seele, I think. Shinji and Asuka becoming the next Adam and Eve... I've never thought of it that way. I always thought that all the people who entered Rei's body came back. They all exploded because Seele was behind this whole plan about unifying humanity and making it into one. It just depicts the end of the world in a religious sense. I mean, the Lance of Loginus, the Sephirothic System, Angels, Adam, Eve, Lilith, Quotes from the Bible? VERY AMAZING anime. It's my favorite, plotwise.

^^^SORRY, I accidentally pressed add reply..

Well anyway, yes, I DO agree with the rest of you who say that anime has the more interesting and more mature plotline (well, atleast most anime). It's quite sad, though, that people only see it as a cartoon, therefore don't watch it and think of it as childish.

Actually people started popping because Shinji wanted that as the fate of the world... And I'm guessing you didn't watch the 2nd movie because it wasen't released in USA and the dvd's are hard to come across.... It explains everything there.

It really depends, as well. I agree, anime isn't just for children. It depends on what anime you watch. It's just like how.. okay do you think south park is just for children?

Anyway, anime has "substance", as Trish puts it, that regular cartoons lack. IMHO, most regular cartoons aim at a younger audience, so they have to tone down the jokes, randomness, etc. Not only that, but must cartoons are either too busy or way too boring. When I say "too busy," I mean that too much is going on that there's ALWAYS something different for each episode. Anime continues, with a strong plotline as well as well-developed characters.

Think of anime as a drama or an action cartoon with a strong plotline. Tell me, have you EVER cried while watching an American cartoon? I don't recall of every crying when I watched any American cartoon. But certain animes (even manga! I love reading them!) can truly touch your heart and make you think..

Don't base anime on Pokemon, Digimon, Yu Gi Oh, etc. They are anime, but you have to look past that. InuYasha: Beyond the Looking Glass (InuYasha movie) made me cry. But I'm a hopeless romantic type-of-person, so maybe you're not into that sort of stuff.

Give anime a try. Digimon, Pokemon, Yu Gi Oh!, etc. Are directed towards a younger audience, so maybe that's what you based your opinion on.

yeah, i was never a big fan of anime either.
so when i asked my friend you same question you're asking, she said it's because she wanted to get away from life. "Reality seems so hard to deal with, so I just whisk myself away with anime books...I always wanted to look or be like them..nothing to worry about, with a great storyline and life."

It's much easier to be drawn into anime storylines than it is cartoons, seeing as how they're more semirealistic.

hehe.
some of you have to realise that you can't summarize "anime" altogether, except by saying it's "cartoons"

cartoon's don't have to be for only kinds, or only adults. (EX:contrasting aurthur with king of the hill).

they're like books, for you readers, there are bad books, good book, wierd books, serious books, stupid books-- and actually genres like fantasy, children, adult, romance, action, adventure, etc.

but... most of the "anime" dubbed in america are fantasy, because otaku's get sooo into those things, and producers love fanatics (obbsession=money)
