ok the other day, i was scaring my baby sister (who is 14 months old) with scary images on my computer sceen. she was on my lap and we were watchin like this video clip that a scary face popped up unexpectantly. it didnt scare me cuz i showed her that video clip and i knew what was going to happen but my baby sister couldnt stop shaking. she was petrified. and im such a bad sister cuz i kept showing other video clips that would scare and she got scared in all of them

will this affect how she sees things when shes older>? i stopped doin it cuz i got in trouble but still... did i do something that i will regret when shes older?

I guess it depends on the different images. If it was like scary clowns she might be afraid of clowns when she gets older. But she probably won't remember any of them when she gets older.

Babies develop their brains at a much faster pace than teens and such. I mean, they learn things and imprint images in the minds freekin fast. I think you traumatized her, and it will nip you in the butt in the future. I'm thinking it's going to affect her long term future, as in what she is scared of, how she'll react. It may even affect her psyche, where she may develop an overall attitude and personality.

But that's just speculation! Maybe she's strong and wont even remember it in a few years.

Let me ask you guys something, do you remember anything from when you were 14 months old? No. So, stop saying... "well blah blah blah she might not even remember it in a couple of years blah blah blah". Anyway, it WILL have some sort of an effect on her... I guess we'll just have to wait to find out.

I don't know if it'll affect her when she gets older, but even though she's 14 months, she might remember when she gets older and she'll always be petrified of those kind of things because of a bad experience.

What the hell made you want to show your little sister scary pictures on the internet? That's not very funny at all. Thats cruel. Screw all the people that said "just kidding" because you ARE a bad sister. Whether or not your sister will be affected by it is not the point, the fact that you actually went and did that shows how dumb you are.

Common sense please.

I remember stuff that happened when I was 6 better than what I ate last night.

Ohhhh, you done did bad. You're going to hell.

But seriously. Studies showed babies can't usually form long-term memories before they learn language. As long as you didn't tape her to the monitor... I'm sure you didn't scar the child for life.

People make mistakes and unfortuantely she made a mistake on this part. As long as she knows what she did was bad, then everything is all right.
Just..... don't do it again in the near future soon to your little sister.

I could connect this situation to something similar.

I played this one Rated M game when I was like about 4-5 years old called Doom 1. I almost beated it, but it gave me nightmares. But the graphics on Doom 1 were so poor that my nightmares weren't that bad.

She won't remember the situation, but it might give her long-term effects.

hm, my nephew is just a little over 1 yr old. he used to go into the drawers and mess with the canned foods alot, so we put a mask of an old lady in it. once he opened it, he screamed and ran off. we did that about 2 months ago and he is STILL scared to even go anywhere near the kitchen. we taught him how to show us he was scared by pounding his chest real lightly (like the heart beating) and he does that all the time. you would have to pull his arm to get him to go into the kitchen. i hope he forgets one day, as well as your sister. goodluck with everything! no more scaring little kids ;)

We develop the fastest mentally from 0-5, those were our crucial years. Dont do shit like that to your sister, that's messed up. She's going to learn to associate loud sounds with fear and become messed up.

Just lay off that stuff, if you want to do somethng with your sister, read to her for god sakes..

i read that saying you love someone to death is a term that abusers use...because you're mentioning something beautiful (love) and comparing it to something horrible (death). it was in this "an idiot's guide to healthy relationships" or something...i was mad at my boyfriend and was about to buy it for him _dry.gif

Okay.
I'm sorry, but this thread has just made my day.
*rolling on the floor laughing*

Anyway.

Why in God's name did you continue to show her "scary clips" after it was obvious that she was terrified? I mean, you said it yourself...you felt her shaking, but you continued.

It may scar her for a little while.
Who knows.
It's hard to tell and it's different with every person.

Either way, that was a pretty stupid thing to do.

I got scared of this weird moving badger thing when I was a baby. I always screamed and freaked out over it.

Babies cry over everything. Don't worry about it. Just don't do it anymore, because it MIGHT, then, present some problems.

That reminds me of my aunt's baby HAHAHA... I used to scare her by pretending like I dropped her like those ups and downs haha... those scary rides haha. I don't regret it because she's a spoiled brats... and I don't think it will affect them because they are babies and they don't know what's the word SCARY...they will probably forget like she forgot mine. now she's 4.. when i scared her...she was like 13 months?

Umm... I think she will certainly have a lot of nightmares.
I dunno if she'll still remember those scary images, but she might have the first impression that you're not a nice sister.

maybe she was scared at the time but i hardly doubt it's going to impact her. I don't think when she grows up she'll even remeber it, just don't do it again because sometimes doing it a number of times can take an effect on her. I know what you mean cause i have a sister who's 3 years old now but when she was younger i used to scare her by like jumping out from a corner or something when i played with her, but i stopped doing it and she's fine now, so don't worry.

when your young even when u were born things that surround u and the environment that you live in will definitely affect u , even if u dont remember. Possible things like specific colors or shapes does affect u when ur young .

it clarifies your brains nervous cells when your an infant , thats why there are soo many infant shows during weeday mornings.

your Sense cells start to open up and is more senstitive as an infant since ur getting used to the environment u live in .

if youve shown scary images of that ....i dont think she would remember , but she would hate it , and dislike it on the later years, maybe even traumatize her .

ive learned from this since my uncle studies the development age of infancy and is pediatrician and most of my friends who has "baby mama drama ".

if you surround ur infant in a heavy loud crowd , as a toddler the baby would be grumpy , active , and have tantrums . if your baby was surrounded with good people . the baby wouldnt be as bad in later years. soo basically yea ....u coudlve traumatized her. good thing u did it once .

one more thing . thats ....evil .......EVIL

Yes, If yuo scare alot of image to her .. she's defintely going to remember it cuz i think you did more then enough for her to see scary image. Scaring a baby can cause nightmares and get scares easily when a baby is growing .. especially when a parent physically abuse their child and it affect a child's future .... i hope you just learn a lesson there.

QUOTE(Despise @ Feb 27 2005, 8:25 PM)

*

yeah i agree with brie... i thought it was kinda stupid to hear that you continuously showed her the scary clips... eep! as if like you want the baby to die. remember he/she is younger than you verrryy young.

What people on the internet try to say about you shouldn't be too important.

Although I agree with some people, it was a pretty stupid thing to do to a baby. Just don't do things like that again, okay? Hopefully your sister will forget all about that scary stuff.

Why would you do something like that in the first place? Obviously stupidity. I read somewhere that young kids who are exposed to something that scares them when they're little and don't understand its not real or whatever often have a phobia of that for a very long time. You're messed up...your mother must have dropped you on your head when you were a baby....

I don't think so, but you never know, I used to always be in the room with my parents when they watched horror movies (or so I'm told) and yeah I'm fine, I'm immune to horror movies, maybe she'll be immune too...
