Ok, is it true that y'all believe that we were created by either an explosion, or nature, or ina natural way?

Is it also true taht y'all believe that when we die we just rot? That we dont got o heavena nd we dont go to hell, we just rot in the ground?

Hey, I'm no athesit, but can I answer?

I think that the Big Bang theory is a more plausible explanation of how we came to be since we actually DO have proof that the universe is expanding.

There's your first answer.

atheists just dont believe in god, the very idea that there is someone ruling over us, watching us. atheists can believe anything they want to about how the world was created. apathetic atheists dont really care.
personally, i think that the world was created from a huge explosion, or the "big bang". the big bang supposedly happened simultaneously and in every point of space, more or less 15 billion years ago. this explosion determined the beginning of an expansion that is still in progress, which gave rise to hundreds of billions of galaxies, each made of hundreds of billions of stars. about four billion six hundred million years ago, a gaseous cloud caught fire and became a star, this was the birth of our Sun, around which the nine planets of the solar system were formed. on one of these planets, Earth, as a result of a complex series of chemical reactions, the fundamental molecules of life were formed, from lower life forms - higher forms gradually evolved, until we come to the animals we know toda.

Im not athiest, but I am agnostic. All I know is that there is no way to prove whether there is or isnt a higher being or not, nor do I know what brought us to be. All I know is that there are many different theories and religions blindly seeking proof of their existence. When I find that proof, ill let you know. happy.gif

I'm not athiest, Wanna hear me theory? I think we die because if we are all immortal then what happens if we all don't fit in this world anymore? (Overcrowded earth means no privacy! Eeek!) cry.gif

To the honest truth, every single person has to be believe in afterlife, right? You know? Even from Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece up to now, there seems to be that split between there's a good place where you live for the rest of your "afterlife" and there's a bad place where you live for the rest of your "afterlife" (which no one really wants to go to..)

Into the void possibly? Mabye to a heaven or hell? Or mabye the simple truth is that once you die, the activity in your brain just simply stops, and so does your mind... and thats it.

Ok, I have a sort of mixed theological belief. My family is buddhist so on certain occassions I do believe in reincarnation or rather, let me explain again from the beginning. I do believe that humans evolved from other species. And then when humans die, they go to heaven (a Godless heaven) and they can stay there and party or go get reincarnated if they want or I don't know how my mind works. Whatever.

Yeah, I second what waccoon said, and for some reason, I believe in reincarnation, but I don't think that we go to a heaven first to decide where we want to go. It's amazing - you get all these stories of little children who burst out, saying, "I died here, Mommy," and some even to the point where they describe meticulous descriptions no one else could describe besides the person that lived it. Oh, and point of clarification: these kids are unaware of death, and are still sheltered. Now, explain that to me. I mean, can they honestly have that big of an imagination when they don't watch TV or know of death and war?

I'm atheist, but I'm guessing that not all [atheists] share my beliefs.

I believe in the Big Bang theory too. If you've ever read Angels and Demons, you've heard about anti-matter and such. To me, that's a much more plausible explanation for our existence than a higher being "creating" us.

I believe that when we die, everything just stops for us. I think of it this way: If you can't remember anything before you were born, why would you be able to after death? Maybe "rot in the ground" is what I'm saying, but I just like to think of it as a removal of the senses. Who knows?

That's where my belief of reincarnation comes in, although there might be flaws to it, in the instances where children can recall their past lives. You're not supposed to remember your past life, but sometimes souls (as I shall call them) do.

Yeah "you" dont rot , because the 'you' you are refering to is yoru consciousness which has already ceased due to the lack neural activity.

however, the body that represents you to the outside world does rot and eventually decay to nothingness.

i am an athiest....but i do not think we roth in the ground.....i am a strong believer in moving on yes....but not to a perfect "heaven" or the torturous "hell".....i have read a few books on Theoretical Physics....and there are 13 discovered Dimensions....although we can not perseave them they are there....just like we can not ever perseave "Nothing"....which is impossible to define.....ill thread that later...but i thinki after you die your mind evolves to another level....which inturn causes you body to die away and you mind to move on in the universe.....

So if some little kid was raised to never know god, and was never given the opportunity to "accept god into his heart" then god is going allow him to be sent to hell to burn and be tortured for eternity? Seems like a pretty shallow god.

Heh another thing is - if "God" is so fair and whatnot, why are innocent children dying at two years of age around the world? They did nothing to deserve that. Meanwhile, you have filthy rich men and women who do the most horrid things...shouldn't they be the ones that are punished? This is another reason why I believe in reincarnation, because I believe that you must've done something in your previous life to deserve what you got in the next life. I know it sounds quite odd, but that's just something I believe in. Also, the Bible tells you to forgive, but say someone purposely kills the one true love of your life...heck, your whole family...now, are you truly supposed to forgive them? According to the Bible, yes. I know you can't bring them back or anything, but what? Are you gonna become best friends with them now? It just doesn't make sense to me...

ok, well than...for those of you who believe the so called "rot in the ground" thing....than why on earth would you want to believe that after you die you will rot in the ground? I just dont understand. How can you live life having a belief that your are "just there" and then believe that all you are here to do is to marry, breed, and rot?

ok, hypothetical question....

so, what if there is a God? In the case that there is a God and you didnt follow him or even believe in him, and there is a hell...than you would have to go to hell. But, if there isnt a God, and during your life you believed there was one..what is the worst that can happen? you have lived a hopeful, fulfilled, alltogether good life, touched ppls hearts, and gave them hopes and dreams, and then you can rot? Why would you choose to take that chance? I dont understand?

In Egypt, they mumified you because you need your spirit to return to the body so it has the home. If the body was gone then the spirit is left without a home. (Possibly, a ghost) It was said that if your heart weighed as much as the feather of (something) then you can relive your life except with much better ranks and stuff.

I'm an Atheist. I don't have any comments on how we got here but for the after-death part... I think that we just stop living, we don't feel anything anymore and yeah, we end up rotting in the ground. Except unless of coz they cremate you. :D

I think the theory of evolution is improbable. The chances of a big bang to create a whole entire earth that provides all the possible needs for lifeform is very...very..VERY small. A single leaf contains a millions of atoms. The chances of millions of atoms out of billions of atoms to somehow attract/collide together to form a perfect bonding creating a leaf is like 0.00000001/100000000000......

I'm Catholic... but I do believe in the Big Bang Theory too.

Hmm...

It's kinda out-of-topic but I'm guessing most of you here are familiar with the story of creation? That God created all things in 6 days (He rested on the 7th)? My friends and I think that a 'day' in that story is worth a billion or so years... I dunno... I guess that's evolution. It's just a thought, though.

I have no comment about the life and death thing...

no, i dont believe in god, and thats my theory. i believe that the big bang happened, and then eventually we evolved into humans from other animals. and yes, when we die, we just die. i dont think anything happens to us. its like sleeping, only you never wake up again.

the reason why i dont believe in god is because its confusing me. how can one man up in "heaven" just randomly create a world where only 2 humans exist. they have children, only its all different races. ive seen painting of adam and eve and remembering them being white. so how can two white people have a black baby? or an asian baby? or a latino baby? isnt there proof that evolution occured?
everything is just so confusing. how are there so many different heavens? for example: egyptians, and christians believe in two different things. does that mean there are two heavens and more than one god? there is no scientific evidence that god existed. but when they do find out, ill believe it. _smile.gif

yes im an atheist

one reason is because there just isnt enough evidence to support the fact that god might be real

if this god is so great then why did the church have to use propaganda to get people to believe

also almost everyone who is living today disobeys most of the rules you should follow in order to go into the place you people call heaven

when i talk like this most people are like you believe in the devil

but how is that possible

if i dont belive in god then how am i gonna believe in the devil

a priest once said that you must believe in the devil in order to show ur full allegiance to god
other wise what isthe point of god being there
becuase without satan being there then everyone would be happy
i also dont belive in it because most of the time i see people in church it makes me laugh

when i went to see what people were saying in church it was quite wierd
next year the poeple who belive in christ will wage a war with any none believers
that means if any of you come to my doorstep trying to kill me for a reason in which not even you understand ill kill u with a smile on my face
religion is such a brainwashing thing that doesnt allow you to learn to your fullest extent

that is why i am an atheist
so i dont have to deal with al that stupid crap
i could keep on going but i want to see whta other people have to say

------------edit------------

maggie, one reason that me and my friend have looked into might support why we al belive in god

supposably all humans are connected on the same level of consciousness
therefore information is passed from one person to the next
that is also the reason for many of the words we use
when one person used "the" since we are all connected we all learned it at the same time
the reason that some people didnt learn is becuase they just werent smart enough

yes i may sound vague about this but i have to be becuz if i begin typing the whole theory behind it then it will be much too long

if u want to ask me anything about that theory and anything else, just pm me

Let's assume God created everything that was, is, and will be. Why?

Because spirituality doesn't work like that. You can't just say, "Hey, logically I should believe in God to save my own ass, so I'm going to." If you don't truly believe, then you're not a believer.

Haha! XD Two pieces of anti-matter fell deeply in lovee...

I'm what you could call a "hopeful agnostic". I wish I could believe in a heaven or hell, but you can't force yourself to believe something if you, uhm, don't believe it. Believe me, I've tried, and it's very depressing. It sucks thinking that nothing happens after you die.

I was raised in a Christian household, my father pastored a church, it's not like I wasn't exposed to Christianity. But I can't see myself as being logical or even smart unless I have an open mind. That way of thinking eventually led into disbelief altogether. But I'm hoping that one day something will just hit me and I'll suddenly believe, because if I could pick one religion to believe in it'd be Christianity.

But in short, I honestly can't think of (or believe in) any logical explanation other than the world was created by natural means, and if we die, we die and that's it.

as an atheist, i don't believe that HUMANS were created by an explosion, i believe in evolution. (over time, we evolved from animals [gorillas, apes..?]) about how the whole earth was created... i believe in the big bang theory. and yes, i think that when we die we just rot in the ground. i think that the concept of heaven and hell was created simply to make dying seem less horrible, and so that back then people would be honored to die in wars and be sacrifices to God because they thought that they would go to heaven for their good deeds.

I don't know what to think. But something that amazes me is how we even came up with all these theories. Don't you think its wonderful that a few people have an idea of what happened 15 BILLION YEARS ago? Most of us take this for granted because we have no idea how long this is. In numbers, 15 Billion years is 15,000,000,000. Thats 5,475,000,000,000 days, which in turn is 131,400,000,000,000 hours. The average life expectancy in the United States is only about 77 years. That means in order to live from the big bang today, the average american would have to live and die 194,805,194.8051948 times. Think you can manage?

I'm not atheist.

I don't believe that people just rot in the ground and die. Sure, maybe their bodies do. Here's some interesting stuff.

Ever heard about clinical deaths? There's been a lot of them nowadays. They're when people are "technically dead" but then they live to tell the tale. These people remember these experiences too. Most have had "out of body" experiences, in which they are basically a soul and they can see everything happening around them. Including they're body that people are supposedly doing an operation on.

Supposedly, this is proof that we don't rot in the ground after death, rather... we're a soul... and then, whatever happends there, we're not sure of. Wander around the world... reincarnation, who knows?

I'm personally thinking of reincarnation though. The whole, kids recalling where they died and everything. Totally agree with that.

I just thought that was interesting. happy.gif
