QUOTE(AzNxJenny91 @ Feb 21 2005, 4:29 PM) Well if you live in America, then why aren't you Americanized? I don't get it. Unless you don't live in America? Not literally. I think my asian friends are americanized. They think like all asian food is nasty. Hates asian music, but they all go towards the american style. Anyways, if i was called "americanized", i can careless. |

I'd rather embrace the mainstream than my own culture. That does bother my parents, but it's not a bad thing. |

Hrm. Well, i'm american-born. So how can I not be americanized, you know? But what really pisses me off is when I go back to taiwan, these stupid people speak behind my back in chinese and act like i don't hear a thing. they're like " omg i bet she doesn't know mandarin. she's so americanized" BLEH that pisses me off.

No. Asians never say that to me at all. I don't have that much of an interest towards the US. I devote my intrest in culture towards Korean culture (I'm Chinese) and people don't really say how "too Asian" or "too American" I am.

no.....no one has called me "americanized" so far.....actually, i look more white than anything and the weird thing is that i'm more asian than anything.....i'm more korean than anything else. What i have been called before in the past was chink and asian chick. yep, that's basically it. My parents are the ones who really call me "americanized." i really hate that too.

i'm not trying to sound racist or anything, but all the asian people hang out with all the other asian people at my school...i'm asian and i can't stand that asian group, they're loud and obnoxious and so extremely rude...so, it really doesn't **** me off when people tell me i'm more amercanized...actually, my gramma [[she's white]] has had a big influence on me...see, women in the asian culture aren't respected enough and they are always doing what the MALE person is telling them to do...and asian women have to be quiet and listen to orders until they're married...i started to see this and my gramma told me that it was wrong, so i changed...that's what makes me "amercanized"...and the fact that i dont' like asian food, too spice

Nope. And I think you're talking about Asians living in the US... you should have specified that cuz MOST Asians live in Asia.

QUOTE(nevernothere @ Feb 21 2005, 4:30 PM) I'm confused. Was that implying that an entire RACE is ignorant? Just because you haven't personally experienced the exact same thing doesn't mean you don't have the ability to understand or relate. I can relate your experience to one of mine, even though I am not Asian. But since I'm not Asian, it doesn't matter to you, because I couldn't possibly understand. |

not really.. most asians around here are either "americanized" or complete fobs. i do admit that i am quite white-washed, but what can one do but adapt to one's surroundings?

My brother is what is called too americanized. He was born and raised here. He hates rice, cant speak vietnamese, and basically just growing up like an american kid. He's rude and disrespectful towards my parents, which bugs the crap out of me. I'm gonna go beat him up now. muwahaha.

I consider Asian people to be Americanized or Whitewashed when they don't know a thing about their native culture or if they can not speak their native language.

QUOTE Im not asian, but we all used to call our one asian frind rice cakes, lol. I have nevr told anyone that there too 'americanized' just because it says asian on you iowa test doesnt mean you have to act like it... Doesn't mean you have to act all americanized either ( i'm not saying that being americanized is a bad thing though. ) |

Nah, my friends just called me "white-washed". Which is quite true. So I don't get pissed off when they do that.
But I do get pissed when Fobs say I'm a fob (I'm not. CBC all the way Everyone in my family is "white-washed". Except for my mom. She's in between. But what can you expect from a family of siblings who were born in Canada and parents who came here when they were young, eh? |
