Underground is: any type of music that isn`t mainstream. I doubt you`d ever see "underground" music on MTV or hear it on a radio station.

I know music is about quality, but the only music I like just so happens to be underground.

What about you? Do you listen to underground?

If so, which bands?

//edit:

I`ll just name the first ones that come to mind: Brown Eyed Deception, Runaway Orange, Saosin, Cauterize, Sherwood, My American Heart, and The Snake The Cross The Crown.

xo, Pauline

Well, I like underground but not as much as a friend of mine named Crispy who's friends with some very underground bands...

some of my favorites are like, Sunday Driver, Big Collapse, The Interns, Rise & Shine... but that's prolly too underground

let's see...I like Rilo Kiley, Alkaline Trio, Minor Threat, Mars Volta, Death Cab For Cutie, Further Seems Forever, The Get-Up Kids, At the Drive in, and Jimmy Eat World...

I listen to very few underground bands. Perhaps the only one is Deadstar Assembly, and they've appeared on MTV like.. once, I think? \= Meh. Lacuna Coil, perhaps.

hmm, i just posted my favorite bands in that other thread, some of which are slightly underground, such as american football, the appleseed cast, canterbury effect, commander venus, the decemberists, desaparecidos, the good life, matt pond pa, minus the bear, neutral milk hotel, onelinedrawing, ozma, the spill canvas, and sunny day real estate. there are others but i'm too lazy to type them out.

mtv2 on demand has all underground music, actually *shrug*

i enjoy it but i dont get to listen to it as much as id like as im rarely home alone, leaving me able to put music on. my mom has the computer centrally located so she can spy on me, which means little to no music, as ill disrupt them, and theyll distrupt me trying to figure out what im doing

i like daphne loves derby. hey, beni never made me a copy of their cd mad.gif

mars volta is okay, but they're getting really popular. i downloaded a few of their songs about a year ago. i have sparta's newest cd, and i don't really like it. what i heard from wiretap scars sounded a lot better. and like i said before, atda rocks.

mars volta is okay, but they're getting really popular. i downloaded a few of their songs about a year ago. i have sparta's newest cd, and i don't really like it. what i heard from wiretap scars sounded a lot better. and like i said before, atda rocks.
*

yeah I dont like that they are getting popular.
I have been listening to them for a long while.

I hate how Straylight Run is all of a sudden 'booming'.

I hate it when bands I like/used to like get mainstream. I don`t know why, it just pisses me off. And what pisses me off even more, is when the little preteens consider themselves the "founder" of that band. "Ohh! I knew them first!" Stuff like that.

i feel bad for just listening to straylight run because people don't want them to be popular. in an interview i read sr said that they just wanted to be a popular local band in long island and i feel bad for helping ruin that. also, ive never been to a concert because im scared ill be the only kid there. i get intimidated easily. im not a preteen but im still young.

oh, i know what you mean. even though i'm young, i find out about a lot of the "underground" bands waaay before anyone else here. i found out about straylight run... about a year and a half ago. downloaded their free ep. didn't like the cd too much, but they're REALLY popular now (along with sparta). that's one of the things i HATE.

to make this relevant, minus the bear is kind of underground and they are awesome.

i'd say about 75% of the music i listen to is underground. that's probably because hardly anyone listens to industrial or synthpop. only a select few people do...it's all good though, i like my music and i don't really like that much mainstream music except for Manson, Orgy, Deadsy, Korn and a few other bands....

to all u younger people on the board who are pissed about your music becoming popular and aboveground, get used to being the trendsetters. take it with a grain of salt. if u pimp out a certain band enough, everyone will listen to them. trust me on that one. when i was in high school, pretty much any band i liked got really popular a few months to a year after i got into them. everyone will always like the bands after u and will wear the shirts and quote the lyrics and make a joke out of your scene and your music. mtv and fuse will pick it up, show some videos and make a few bands huge. then the scene dies and before u know it, your music is considered passe and u will once again be underground.

don't stop liking your music because a few dumb twats are ruining it. just go further underground and resurface at a later date.... biggrin.gif

i would set myself on fire for you
the mercury project
the snake the cross the crown
cue the doves
monday in london
the belles
a silver mt. zion
explosions in the sky
He Is Legond
The Receiving End of Sirens

murder by death
death by stereo

let's see...I like Rilo Kiley, Alkaline Trio, Minor Threat, Mars Volta, Death Cab For Cutie, Further Seems Forever, The Get-Up Kids, At the Drive in, and Jimmy Eat World...
*

yeah uh getup kids, mars volta, and jimmy are all mainstream

underground is cool.

mellow.gif Oh my.

Heh, I like bands with innocent-ish poppish sounds, like Mates of State.

Oh, and Nada Surf and Pretty Girls Make Graves should also be added to my list, though I`m not really sure if they`re underground or not. Annnnnd, The Gloria Record.

Days Away is pretty good live. I also went to a show of theirs back in October, and they gave me and my friends some free stuff. The show was great, I got to see: The Snake the Cross the Crown, Number One Fan, Emanuel, and Armor for Sleep that day.

By the way, did Days Away just recently get signed by Fueled by Ramen? blink.gif
