QUOTE
The man suspected of causing a fiery commuter-train wreck in an aborted suicide attempt could face the death penalty on multiple murder charges, Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley said Thursday.

Authorities said Juan Manuel Alvarez, 25, abandoned his sport-utility vehicle on a railroad track in suburban Glendale early Wednesday after changing his mind about killing himself. A Metrolink commuter train crashed into the Jeep Cherokee, derailed and sideswiped another commuter train and idle freight locomotive.

Eleven people died and 180 were injured in the chain-reaction disaster. It was the nation's worst train wreck in nearly six years and took the heaviest casualty toll in the regional Metrolink system's 12-year existence.

The body of the 11th victim, a woman, had not yet been recovered when prosecutors filed a criminal complaint Wednesday night charging Alvarez with 10 counts of murder. Cooley said the complaint will be amended to add another murder count when Alvarez is arraigned.

Can you believe anyone could be so stupid and so selfish? What, you drive your car there, change your mind, and walk home?

He deserves to die.

He could of just tried to drown himself. At least it would of been peaceful/less painful and he wouldn't of killed innocent people because of his idiotic decision. To total it up it's just plain sad..

Yeah, I saw it on the news this morning. They interviewed this guy who luckily survived cause someone took his regular seat. Talk about luck.

But that was so selfish. And why do it when there is a train full of innocent lives? Why couldn't he just jump off a bridge and then chicken out? At least he wouldn't of hurt anyone when he decides not to.

Gosh, that was ALL over the news. That coward. Him chickening out on his own death caused 11 more people to die plus about 200 more people to be injured.

No, that's not right.

I must say that is not right with all the other suff thats going on and out of know where this d**k head changes his mind and kills 11 people that didnt do any thing... They just thought they were going to work and it would be another boring day like any other... and then they would come home to a well cooked meal and there fantastic kids and there nice home and pritty wife/husband.. I do not think we should kill him quick.. we should let him rot in prison for the rest of his fucken life so he can think how f**ked up he is on the inside for changeing his fucken mind .. at the last min... Thats what i think

Does anyone else find it odd that ... he drove the car there to commit suicide (btw... even if he did do the deed, the eleven people would've died probably. The car caused the train wreck.) but left it there?

How can you drive to a railroad and then just leave it there when you changed your mind?

What did he walk home?

He should've just driven away.. Why leave a car there? blink.gif -_- My teacher talked about that in apush. It's sad that someone else's selfish reasons could hurt so much... He deserves to go to prison. The death penalty is something that he would want (since he wanted to commit suicide).. Let him suffer in prison.. ph34r.gif

[22:00:18 PM] Are they saying that it would've been better for him to die on the tracks?
[22:00:23 PM] And also kill innocent others in the process?
[22:00:38 PM] _________: ooh yea that is true.
[22:00:53 PM] Is it better that he should face the consequences for his actions? Or would it have been better if he died without having to take responsibility?

Conversation between me and someone; I wasn't sure if I wanted to post on the thread.. but yea.

Thats true. That way, his dumb ass would be gone and no other people would have been harmed. Hrm... it seems a bit ironic. He decides not to kill himself, but left his car on the train tracks, thus giving him the death sentence. blink.gif

And anyway, there are much better ways of killing yourself than that. _smile.gif .

your right. what he did was extremely stupid and selfish and though we may want him to die, that wouldn't really work.

1.that was his goal in the first place. killing him would only accomplish his goal
2.let him live, be in jail forever, pay a huge fine, and let him live with the unbearable guilt. to me that's worse then dying
