This may be a reaaaally dumb question.. but what's the point of grounding a child?
You know they'll never listen. [Some kids, like me] And you just ground them like it's a game. O__O Some kids don't even behave after their parents ground them. |

yeah, some kids just get worse but that's not all kids...after my parents started to try "laying down the law" it just made me push myself away from them, my parents never ground me though, they just yell and belittle me
 i think the point of grounding a child is to show them that the parents have the power to punish them, and plus it isolates them from their friends who the parents probably disapprove of anyway |

well..its a way to teach them disipline. show them that whatever they are doing is not ok. when i'm a parent, i'm not going to ground all the time and relie on that to raise them..first i'll talk to them about whatever they did then maybe restrict a few things. my mom never grounded me for much at all..and i turned out fine. i only got grounded by my dad when i brought home b's

The parents may think that grounding them is gonna help them improve the way they behave. But it doesn't.
What most parents don't seem to understand is that life isn't they way it was back in the day. They don't understand that life for the children is getting to be worse now. It isn't like before. Times have changed. I really don't understand the point of grounding someone as most likely, the children will end up disliking their parents, think that they don't care about them, and possibly go to depression. Correcting is one thing. Grounding is another. It's become such a habit for parents to ground their children. I bet if parents were nicer to their children, they would behave 10 times better than they do now. |

yeah i don't really see the point of grounding except keeping the kid(s) stuck at home...i don't really get grounded so yeah..

i dunno.. like when parents are mad i guess they just wanna ground you instead of abusing you or something.. they just feel angry at you and have to punish you in some way ya know? =/ im not sure though.. cuz grounding doesn't teach us a lesson for sure i guess.. x_X i've never been grounded in my whole life.. so i wouldn't know for sure.. i used to be abused though..

Welps..I've never been grounded..heh but I've gotten punished..hmnm..but grounding a child I think the parent'll try to teach them that they can't get what they wan't when they don't behave

Last week at cadets we learned about discipline, interesting actually. Discipline should be used with connection to whatever the person did wrong. So if the kid stayed out all nite when he shouldn't have, or she has bad grades because she parties too much, then grounding would be a proper form of discipline. If the kid didn't do the dishes, then grounding is inappropriate. Some parents just use it to excercise their power over their kids

I've never been grounded.
My friend was grounded in his room for a week and all he had was a mattress, a pillow, and two sheets. He didn't even have a clock! But the point of grounding a child is to take away that's person's freedom because of doing something bad. |

my parents never ground me.
but i guess they ground the kids so they can learn a lesson and one day they can thank the parents for raising them that way. ( at least that's what my dad says when he grounds my brother) |

I don't get what's the point with grounding someone either. For example: my parents will be like "No watching TV or going on the computer for the day" and then I'll just be like okay?? cuz I have a computer and a TV in my room so I can do whatever they want cuz they never go in my room. Wow parents can be so dumb sometimes.

well some kids learn their lesson and some kids will get worse like for example "korean teenagers" when they get hit by the teachers and get slapped by the teachers...they'll get worse and starts to smoke... i know a lot of my korean friends are like that... heh. well im korean and i never done smoking and neither my teacher ever slapped me cause i know im a good student. i dont lag off.
