Is CreateBlog really one big happy family? Options

So, hello, my name is Orchid, and I've been browsing around CreateBlog since February; I just never signed up until now. And, well, I'd just like to make a few comments about this whole website.

This is just an assumption, you know? That in Createblog, everyone is supposed to support each other, give advice, and have fun and enjoy being here. Well, I haven't been seeing much of it.

I've noticed some members giving out poor, ill-humored advice, something that's ought to make the starter of the topic feel bad. Stuff that won't help the starter of the topic AT ALL. I'm not pointing fingers, I've just noticed it A LOT. It's especially happening to the newbs. Oh wow, I don't see why the newb would want to stay here any longer if the responses they get are "You're just stupid." Well, not exactly but somewhere along those lines.

Guess what? Some members just don't type normally. They can't help it, and when they make a post about something and they kind of typE lyK dISh, people who respond to the topic make stupid posts that have nothing to do with the subject and say "Oh please type normally." And I know that seeing someone type like that is annoying, but it'd be a lot better if the members here just set that aside and give advice to the person without making irrelevant comments.

And I think some members in here at just a bit conceited about themselves. Well, conceited isn't a good word for it, but something like that. Such as, a while ago, someone made a topic about being too tall and not liking it (I'm not exactly sure it was specifically about this, but something like it), and the reponses he/she got weren't exactly helpful. Such as "Shut up and feel sorry for the short people," or "Stop showing off your height." I'm pretty sure that person wasn't showing off anything but was really disturbed by it, and I know there isn't much to say about it, but at least give some reassuring responses.

It just seems like people are being cruel to each other, and I don't think this is how createBlog should really be like. It'd be alot more fun for others if members made encouraging comments and stuff like that.

this can be ignored if wanted. I'm just saying something out of my heart, and I hope everyone can read this and change a bit.

But if a heavenly being weighed the goods and bads of cB, I'm sure much more people have been helped and consoled than saddened and dissapointed.

When I first started browsing here (May or so of 2004), everyone seemed so welcoming and friendly.. but it seems like over the summer.. people got a bit meaner. Some people think they're being pretty witty with their remarks, but their remarks may in fact hurt that person's feelings.

At times, I wish we could be friendly again and stop assuming newbies are stupid and stuff like that.
I do admit, I make comments on people and their typing skills.. but I won't hold it against them.

I miss the old cB.

lol Thanks for your concern I'm sorry to hear that you've been seeing alot of bashing and ill mannered people around here lately. But any site you go, unfortunately you will see that. Createblog is not a magic place where all the good kids hang lol, But if you look harder there are some really great people at this site Take a look in the introduction forum and you will see the kindness of some of our fellow createbloggers to newbies. Since I joined i was always treated very kindly, although there are a few people here that are less respectful then the rest, i urge you to look beyond those few people People here are really great and really are there for each other There is good advice and good topics among the bad, so i ask you to look past the bad, and take some of the good out of this site

i haven't been with CB for a really long time or anything but i still do feel like it is a helpful community despite those few people who aren't helpful/nice. i mean, it's not like it can be helped that there are a few of those people who are rude and always irrelevant to topics because that happens in any community whether an online community or a real coommunity. But, i have to say that the majority of the people on CB are nice, friendly, encouraging, and helpful. so i hope that you are able to look past those few people who aren't nice and helpful to see those who are because a lot of them are out there.

createblog isn't one big happy family.. it can be sometimes full of fighting.. people really can criticize you if you make one mistake and sometimes strongly hate you for that for a while.

I agree with datru katalyst.

But see, you can't just base createBlog's entirety on a single member's posts or a few. Although there might have been some some misdemeanors (misconducts) to have happened, such as member bashing, spamming, rude behavior, etc, cB as a whole would be a pretty good family. Sometimes, it does irritate me when members type incoherently and whatnot, I might state that I don't approve of it, but I try to be fair and if advice is asked, I reply how I feel the situation should be handled.

Look on the bright side of things. There might be a few cracks here and there, but you can't base this on a few members, or a few topics. Examine createBlog thoroughly, and you'll notice that the majority of the members [if not all] possess kindness, integrity, comicallity, etc.

A great much has changed throughout the time that I've been here, but there's still things that remain unchanged. Don't judge before getting to know the people of createBlog better.

EDIT and I agree with Chrissy--no forum is absolutely perfect. I won't say all, but most of the online communities (forums) have some bad people that cause trouble among the forums.

I used to be afraid to post things. I've been a member for over a year and I've got less than 500 posts! OMG...I'm still a little apprehensive about posting. I don't really have a lot of friends on CB. I try to talk to peoplem you know, PM them, but no one really writes me back. It makes me really sad. Like, "Why am I here? No one cares about what I have to say anyway!"

But there are a few people here who I feel actually care about me. Thank you!

People in createblog tend to take constructive critisism pretty well. Though i do agree with you. Some people in createblog has just turned meaner. Yeah, they are trying to prove a point, but they could make it with a nice remark. When people type all fUnKiEeZ, i have never said one word of it, but it does bother me. I'm not going to make a big deal though. I agree with Christina, you cannot just base createblog on a few people. You have to look around, and see how the others are doing.

Although I do very much appreciate your concern, I hope you do realize this isn't a Utopian-like society (as I have stated on some other post). Sure there's alot of mean people who makes rude and vulgar comments, such as I, but, on the contrary, there are also many eager-to-help, sympathetic members here. It kind of balances it out, if you want it to see it like that.

In addition, you don't want an internet community full of, for a lack of a better word, nice people, do you? Sure, it'd be a nice place to have a littl chat and get your xanga resources, but I'm sure it wouldn't be fun for me, as well as others. It's people like me, unfortunately, and others that make createBlog a little bit more of a, should I say, "interesting" place. Hey, not all of us are cruel. Really, there are a lot of people (and I think most) here that are nice to the newbies, don't care at all of the way someone types, and are just.. plain sincere.

For that girl who made a topic about being too tall.. you can't blame us for assuming that she was just trying to get attention. A LOT of people do that, and it's just instinct/normal for us to feel that way..

Actually, I haven't seen that around a lot. Most people who are mean are either just being honest, or are just joking/playing. Though I think that sometimes the createBlog chat gets a bit out of hand and this whole feud starts..
But overall, I think createBlog is quite a really nice community. Though I do appreciate your concern.

In order to make CB a better community, it always needs mean/harsh people to maintain the forums well, either CB will become a mess.

I have noticed this to. When I first joined, everyone seemed happy with each other, but of course, someone is always rude to the noobs, so i was kinda iffy about staying when I saw how rude some people were to other noobs or w.e. but I stayed, and have come to LOVE Createblog. I guess after you get over the noob stage, it seems like you get more accepted into the community. I guess its all comes down to people getting to know you better, and you getting to learn the rules and not making as many mistakes as you did when you first joined, like making spam topics, repeat topics, etc. Yes, createblog also has those people that are maybe a little bit too sarcastic about some things (ex. th lol), but in all,Cb is a happy place.

I think there is a rule about typing because it can be difficult to set aside their way of typing when you can't make out the words or read their post. Member bashing occurs, but people get warned when they are rude to other members of createblog. it could be worse! I'd say generally, the people here are really nice and respectful!

Same goes with me too, I agree with you, Brie. Around the month of march, everyone was so friendly and so nice. But with some new mods came along... I guess that's when it got started. I'm not saying all the mods.. just few new mods. It's not eve, kim, jackie, kimeroo..ehh how about not saying their names haha. heh in early march, everyone welcomed the noobs and helped them around our community. but after around the summer, they started to say " i hate all noobs!! they suck puhaha" something like that.

I do agree with Kathleen's point.

It's really hard to show sarcasm online at times, and it's especially hard to get your sarcasm across to people that don't know you well.
I mean, the only way you can really use sarcasm and have everybody understand it is by going, like.. "[/sarcasm]" at the end.. but that defeats the whole purpose.

Like Kathleen said, we're just trying to have some fun with the sarcastic remarks and such. For the most part, they aren't meant to literally hurt anybody's feelings, so yeah.

First of all, to those who miss the 'old' CB, I miss it too. Don't get me wrong.. but I wish or rather I hope you guys will stop.. oh I don't know.. complaining about missing it.. because back then, (well, for me anyway.) we had some conflicts too... and most of you guys failed to see it as well. I know exactly how you feel. I've been browsing here for awhile (but just became a member recently) and I am sometimes apprehensive about making posts (haven't made very many, as you can see...). But overall I think people here at cB are pretty nice; there are some people who can be very open with their opinions, but I like it here (very helpful .)
