NOTE: this is a very tedious and long topic so uhmm yeah go on if your are an easily-bored person. otherwise, sorry that its so long but yeah.

ok so i was reading this whole article in teenvogue about the differences between a latino/black girl's perspective about their body and a white girl's persepective.

"the black girls who are considered the hottest at my school are all a good 20 pounds heavier than the white girls who are considered the hottest. black guys wont even look twice at a skinny girl. black girls obsess much less over their weight because its considered desirable to be thick, whereas white girls are more preoccupied with being model-skinny."

of any race, white girls tend to be the least satisfied with their appearance. 44% of white girls -- compared w/ 16% of asian-americans and 20 percent of african americans -- reported they have tried to lose weight.

when white girls see images of say, mischa barton prancing around in a bikini on the O.C., they feel the need to join the weight watchers immediately. but black girls dont bother to measure themselves in relation to a body thats clearly so different from theirs. yet just because many black girls arent eager to lok emaciated doesnt mean they dont suffer from appearance anxiety. we are all bombarded with media images from every direction. to say that black and latina women are able to screen out images in a way white women are not assumes that black and latina women are stronger and more resilient. its a spin-off of a stereotypical view. but when it does come to shape, the differences between african-american girls are most clearly exemplified by the issue of the rear end. asian girls are naturally thin, but that doesnt mean there arent the same types of pressures to be thinner or to stay thin.

"if i could get plastic surgery, i would get liposutcion on my butt" says emma, a caucasion.

"growing up in a black community and not having any booty isnt that acceptable. ive been made fun of by close friends and family members. i am africa-american and have a slightly small flat butt."

"in the group of asian girls i know, many are thinner than me, and that sometimes makes me uncorfortable. as a reult, i often gravitate to my friends of otehr ethnic backgrounds who are fuller-figured."

--------------------------------------------------------------
i took bits & pieces to get to the point i was trying to get as soon as possible. but yeah do you think that living according to your ethinicity requires you to look the way you do? honestly, for me i dont think i have to .. im filipino. because from my friends & family the sizes range from petite to large and no one really has a problem with it.

I think a lot has to do with how you are brought up. I know people of other races other then caucasian have a more tight knit family so I think they learn to accept who they are more then other people.

hmmm....i think thats true. but all of the african-american girls at my school are skinny. EVERYONE, and i mean everyone, is obsesed with being skinny in my school.even the slightly chubby people are considered fat. gahhh....i hate my school soo much...everyone wants to look like a model or whatever, and cant except people for who they are.

I find that sort of true. Like most people consider Asian people to short.. and since my dad was tall, I come out tall. So everywhere I go and I hang out with my friends outside of school.. I feel like the odd one out you know? I'm only 5'4" and a quarter [whatever that means.. lol] and people at my school says that that's not really tall.. but yeah. =[ It also does depends on how you were raised up too like what sexymixelix said. My parents make fun of me all the time and sometimes they don't know just how badly that I don't like it or can't take it. So, I always end up thinking really low of myself now. >_<

what, asian girls are naturally thin?! whatever happened to me?! _dry.gif

sometimes i get all insecure about how fat i think i look sometimes, but most of the time im pretty satisfied cuz at least i dont carry so much burden around. it just sucks how everyone else seem to look better... like when they can wear all those cute clothes & stuff... i see other asian people, & i when i see their, yenno, cute petite bodies, i just cant help but wonder why im built like i am... i dont wish to have what i dont. i'd just like me better if i had less of what i was "blessed" with (fat thighs & chest)

mebbe weight does depend on a person`s ethnicity -- like the kinds of food that culture has. it may also have something to do with the upbringing & environment. my mom says genes have something to do with it too...

I'm latina and one of the sterotypes of most latinas are that they have a big booty.

That is something I don't have.. I don't mind nor do I care.

I love my ethnicity and I'm blessed to have what I have.

Honestly, I think it just depends on environment. Out of all the places I've lived in (dad's multijobs) it's not always necessarily the same. Some people just don't care, and others do greatly.

that's a point, maybe when the latino ppl see a skinny white girl, they think about the differences of the skin color and think that wouldnt be possible.

however, us asian girls as some would say, are naturally skinny. which is not true...it really depends on your heritage and where you came from instead of what race or color you are. (from my point of view)

cuz there are sitll skinny black girls and fat caucasions and asians.

I agree.. my school is actually pretty good about being not-appearence obsessed, but the black girls do seem to want to be more full figured (lol.. snoop dogg videos?) while the white girls want to be more thin.. (mK and ashley..)

i think its all about ur genes...b/c im filipino and im tall--5"6 n a half-- might have changed nd pretty skinny--130---but when u look at me im not petite but not fat i have toned legs n thighs! which i never see wen i watch TFC and big boobs...its wierd when people see me and think that i dont look right just because of my race...ever think that in everyone's eye all u ever see is race? that if we did have diversity we wouldnt think badly about our selfs or others? just think about it...

well of course it usually has to do with genes. but there are lots of skinny-large girls of all ethnicities. but i dont think their friends would make fun of each other for being skinny/big. at least mine dont. huh.gif

in a way it could kind of be related to your ethnicity but not really...more of the way you grew up and what you saw happen around you.
