soon to be? haha, i found out about them because when give up came out in early '03, they had such great heights up for download on mtv.com. so i think they've already reached that point. my friend JUST burned me the cd a couple weeks ago, even though i've been wanting it since it came out (i downloaded most of the songs, but it's not the same, you know?). but yeah, postal service has been mainstream for awhile.

I've had the Postal Service's Give Up CD for quite some time... I guess they are a little mainstream.. even my cousin's heard of them! ohmy.gif (It was mainly through me.. probably.)

well i guess what you consider mainstream is different than what i think it is. but they've spent more than 85 weeks on the billboard electronic album charts (and give up has been number one since august '04 i think). also, you can get their cds in best buy and target, which usually have a pretty limited selection and usually carry only albums they know will sell (at least that's the case where i live). furthermore, in august '04 they had already sold 300,000 copies of give up. and you think THAT'S not mainstream? but either way, mainstream or not, they still make great music, and that's what should count.

edit: i just checked and they're also #8 on the independent album chart, which means they're pretty big, seeing as give up came out almost two years ago. also, give up is the second highest selling subpop (record lable) cd ever, second only to nirvana's bleach.

well what i consider mainstream is the music they play on kiss FM that most people listen to. (keep in mind i live in a small town in indiana. not much diversity, not a lot of choices, not a lot of exposure.) i know two people, including myself, that go to my school and listen to postal service or have even heard of postal service (not from the two of us). so....postal service isn't really mainstream here..it's not like we live in LA or something.

btw, love your xanga.
and your sig, person under him.

they did get signed! by atlantic, 99% sure..i was quite happy for them.

postal service actually seems more mellow to me..(perhaps because of the lack of guitar and drums for the most part?)

i <3333 nothing better. i think its my favorite too. i put it on repeat and listened 7 times, at least. i like them better than death cab, but now that i own the death cab album, i enjoy it as well, more than i thought in fact, but actually i expected that, because the same thing happened with the postal service. i bought the cd having listened to only a minimal amount of their music

yea, i see what you mean about the upbeat poppy kinda thing..(thank goodness the pop station hasn't heard them, i would kill..my pillow..)

simple plan annoys me purely because of their lead singer. his voice is all nasal and like "HEAR ME SHOOUUUTTT AND NOT REALLY SIIIINGGG JUST SOUND LIKE A GOOOOATTTT" ..no idea where i got a goat.

i guess there are plus sides and downsides about Postal Service appearing in Teen People.

plus sides - Mainstream radio stations might start playing Good Music [ ohmy.gif shocking, i know ]

mmm the downsides are that their music might start getting bad.

oh well. we can't stop them from becoming famous.

Ehh The Postal Service has been mainstream to anybody who remotely listens to genres relating to them for about 1 to 2 years. Personally I think theres much better bands that are Postal Servicesque that most people who dont dig past major labels will never see. As for The Postal Service being in stores like Best Buy/Target/Wal-Mart and etc is because their new CD was advertised with nearly all of Subpops budget. They really went hard towards the audiences they knew would listen and hoped that it would spread even farther. It has now, where I live (Suburbs of Chicago) i hear the postal service on alternative radio stations (Q101) and they have been making quite a splash in online downloads. Since Warped Tour their ring tones have been one of the top "rock" sellers.

they were on the warped tour??

about the article, jenny lewis isnt really in the band. she just did back up vocals. she didnt even do the vocals in nothing better, jen wood did.

They wernt really on the band list but they played 3 or 4 shows during the tour, then when Vans was doing all the advertising I always saw their cd right next to hose "warped tour bands" set ups at stores like Sam Goody and Best Buy. Postal Service benefited so much from a concert they wernt even in.

umm, sure it wasn't death cab for cutie that did that??..cause..they're more likely to be with warped tour than postal service.

and i've nevereverever heard postal service on Q101. they play death cab though. but not postal service..

maybe you're confused? cause i listen to Q101 too, and dcfc is more popular than postal service even though people who listen to dcfc most likely also listen to postal service, and vice versa.
