Ok my history teacher said yesterday or 2 days ago that the police were stopping black/hispanic people while driving through the turnpike to check if they had any drugs/alcohol in it..only black/hispanic people..why? just because a person has dark skin color dosent mean they are the ones who uses drugs and alchols..are the police idiots? theres like people who use drugs or drink alcohol like all over the world..no matter wat your skin color is..im not saying they cant use drugs or drink..idc if they do..its their choices but what it drives me crazy is that why the police was just stopping black/hispanic people to check if they had any drugs or alcohol in it..why not whites? why not asians? Do you think this is fair? I really feel bad for all those black people who got stopped..they should've gotten pissed seriously. damn.

yes, obviously. unless they were drinving wrecklessly and it just happened to be them. because its possible. it could be a complete conincidence. and while you mentioned feeling sorry for the black people, why not the hispanics, mr equal oppertunity? also, your history teacher wouldnt have been watching the entire day, so he would have only seen a few stops, and thus, again, coincidence

I've heard tons of stories from friends (the majority of my friends are black males) about how they get pulled over for no apparent reason. They say that their not even speeding or anything.

One time I was in a car with 4 of my friends (again, all black males) after leaving a club in DC and a police car followed us for about half an hour before it sped away. It's not like there weren't other cars around. "Coincidentally" he just chose the car with black folks inside to follow around, right?

And trust me, it's not a coincidence. It's very common for a black person in DC or Maryland to get pulled over for no reason. I don't have a single black friend who hasn't been pulled over once for no reason and it's not like they're wreckless or bad drivers.

To a lot of my friends, they don't even take it by surprise. It's just a "reality" to them. _dry.gif

i don't know where you live but maybe the majority of crime is commited by hispanic and black people. but i don't know. i don't agree with it. i think everyone is capable of commiting the same crime, no matter what there race/color/sex is.

Although it's against the law to racial profile people, there are still alot of police officers that do it.

yes, that is discrimination. racial profiles are completely wrong...just because you have a different skin color/race than others, you shouldnt be treated differently.

Your history teacher sounds full of sh*t to me. It was probably just something he said to initiate a class discussion/debate. And yes, of course the example that you gave is discrimination, however as other people have stated, your history teacher probably didn't sit on the side of the highway and watch police pull over blacks/hispanics all day. Also, people do get pulled over all the time for seemingly no reason, but it's unlawful for a police officer to search your vehicle without permit, reasonable doubt of suspicion of possession, or your permission. So unless there was a DUI/OUI road block (in which case everyone on the road at the time would be stopped, not just blacks/hispanics) then police can't just pull you over and start looking through your sh*t because they're bored and you're dark-skinned. I'm sure it happens in some places, but it wouldn't happen blatantly enough for a history teacher to take notice. *eye rollage*

Anyway, I don't know, maybe I'm actually ignorant to prejudice from living in a progressive area of the country. I've never noticed discrimination to be much of a problem where I come from, thankfully, and I have friends of all races who have never mentioned it as much of a problem. And actually, I'm a white American, like sixth or seventh generation Irish, but in my town I'm in the minority. I'm the only person in my entire neighborhood who isn't first or second generation Spanish or Portuguese.
