I love history, world history, history in general. I took honors but not AP for the sole reason of not having too much of a work load with Psych AP and Economics AP already in tow that semester.

Actually, taking it and failing it, getting something like a C , or not passing the AP exam will only make it worse for you on the college aps. Why not take something that's in your power to make an A in? Or atleast, take something more managable.

it doesn't sound all that bad.. i mean, it's on the U.S. so you probably know a lot of the information already. for me, APUSH is next year's history course. well, i'm not taking APUSH, but i'm taking IB History of the Americas, which is sort of the same thing.. but including Canada and Latin America.

the AP US history teacher at my school (assuming hes the same next year) is awesome, from what i hear. i wouldve taken AP US history this year, but i had alg2 and chemistry that i suck at, so i didnt want the extra work. i took IB world history without the IB credit though. it was really easy. lots of work, but all easy. my highest level class is my easiest grade

I have the book "Inveting America." I can't seem to remember all the information in the book, and my teacher asks random information. Usually, my boyfriend reads the chapters we have to study for and he passes with flying colors! But if the test is hard, he'd probably get a B, but his score would be the highest in our period. Just goes to show just how important read that heavy, 1500 paged book is.. pinch.gif

DBQ's.. well yea I stress about it.. but usually I write them while I'm in class.. THAT period.. when it was due in the beginning of class. My teacher always accepts them as if we turn them in on time, if we turn it in by lunch, regardless of whether we write it in ink or type it up. I hate history in general because I can't seem to remember much of the information.. But I try to pay attention in class as best as I can, and it really helps. I am one of the few who actually do all the work in my period. Everyone's lazy.

I agree with uninspiredfae:

Take classes if you KNOW you'll actually try to learn something or at least try to get a B in. Getting a C in an AP class.. isn't even worth it. Is it true that if you got a C or lower in an AP class, the grade doesn't even count as a B, but remains a C? You know what I mean? Since AP classes are on a 5 point scale.. A C would still be a C, even in a regular class. Or well, at least that's what I heard from a teacher.

I have U.S. History, but I don't have APUSH. Heh, my parents thinks I should take easy classes, so I'm taking easy classes right now to low down my stress problem >.<;;;

At our school. This friend of mine, she's American and very smart girl too. She had APUSH last year and I don't know why only her. But she had more projects and homework than anyone else who took APUSH >.<;;; I guess she wanted more, so she can impress her teachers?

history comes really easy for me, it always has. it's kinda odd cause i hate it with a passion, it's a waste of time and so boring. i can't argue though, i got a 102 average last semester. "it looks good on your college resume." i keep reminding myself. that's basically my only motivation or else i wouldn't even bother with that class.

Anyways, back to the subject. In my opinion, DBQs aren't that tough. I get better grades on DBQs than on my history tests, even when I read the text (okay, well maybe 3/4 of the chapter). I guess I just suck at test taking. Has anyone already taken APUSH? How was the AP test for it? whistling.gif

Yes i have taken the test. I took it last May. For me it was difficult but i slacked off a lot in that class so if you actually read and do all the work, you will do fine. Just don't slack like i did pinch.gif and don't worry, if you don't get the grade you want you can take it again the following year, although you have to pay the $80-something again

ab is 100x easier than bc, no joke.

k lemme explain it a bit more. 3 parts of calc. a. b. c.

ab only covers ab.
bc zips through a (assumes you already have a good background of a) and you learn parts b and c. thats it. some people take ab in junior year, and bc in senior.

I was actually looking foward to it, because I love history, but this sucks. I'm in gifted AP, and glfted classes are usually more stimulating, but half my class isn't supposed to be in gifted, so it's just a damned lot of work and very little creativity. Harder than I expected, though. I really need to get my grade up

Same with APWH, it's easy work, it just takes a while to write everything down and study. But considering that I'm doing symphony and tennis practice, I hardly have time to do anything wacko.gif

I got a 2 on the APUSH test. Yea okay...

I didn't know ANNNYYY answer on the APUSH multiple choice.. Maybe like 5 questions out of the 70+ questions we had--I don't even know how many questions there were pinch.gif

But I did awesome on the essay portion... Haha but that's only 50%, accounting for a grand total score of..

2.

Read the book. If you don't, you won't pass. :P Simple as that. APUSH is easy... the test itself is hard unless u mastered history.

colleges rather see a "C" in a hard class than a "A" in an easy class

i personally think they rather see an "A" in all hard classes cuz the competition is rough

I took APUSH last year and it was definitley a hard class for me. APUSH and AP Physics are rumored to be the hardest classes at my school. And since my school is ranked pretty high on the national list, it's a reallllllly tough class. I slacked off a bunch in that class and I had to work really really hard to get an A on the 2nd semester final to save myself. I didn't take the AP test because I had just missed about a month of school and I missed the deadline to turn in the money and stuff but I heard it wasn't that hard. A majority of the people that I know got 5s on it.

Mine too. It's such an awful book. It leaves out so many crucial details. The funny thing is, it was one of the sample books in Lies My Teacher Told Me, which we had to read in the summer, sp we knew it was crap before we got it

new text book, the american pagent, it's pretty good, works well.

it's pretty easy right now- the only AP class i have an A in right now.

but it should get harder.

oh well. history is generally easy.

APWH is a worthless class.

it's viewed by colleges as a padded AP. they don't care if you take it.

read Lies My Teacher Told Me and then say that.

It can't count. It said that there were 6 Iroquois Nations, 2 for Americans, 3 for British. Wait- that makes 5. What happened to the last one?

I have a shitload of work for it this week. History is generally my best subject, so this sucks

Oh, and APWH was only offered my sophomore year, too. I wsa going to take it, but it was only offered the same period i had band, so being in symphonic band > ap history. plus that meant i had a great teacher and an incredibly easy class

did i mention what state i'm in?

our last textbook was crap. it was selected because it did not mention that christians in the great awakening would roll ont he ground barking like dogs.

which is historically accurate, but the christian lawmakers didn't want it, so they found an obscure crappy book and issued that.

the whole book was basically in lawyer talk.

Yeah, I'd like to read that among a number of other things, but i don't have the time to sleep and do my homework, let alone read things. i haven't had a chance to pick up catch-22 in over a week

to be honest, i only read about half of Lies and James finished the rest for me, because I procrastinated and had to read the jungle as well

My biggest irk about American Pageant is that it doesn't format BOLD fonted terms! :'(

I've thrown away the methoding of outlining/text-notetaking and adopted the method of just reading the chapters 2 or 3 times. -_- It takes less time for me.

Yeah, I know how you're feeling. Last term, I had a new teacher for APUS, and she gave so much freaking work, including a huge term paper that everyone stayed up all night to work on. But, near the end of the year, as the AP approached, the class got easier.

I never took AP US History. It was in a similar time slot to AP Economics, and I took AP Economics instead. Then I took AP English, and hell, it was senior year, and I didn't want to take two AP courses.

APUSH isn't actually available to us senior year. I'll be taking at least 3 AP courses next year, though, because I can't very well go through high school and only take 2. Besides which, I'm stuck taking AP lit next year, because it's a 2 year IB course, and if I don't take AP stats I have to take calculus, and I refuse. And I'll probably take AP government and economics too, just because I can. Dammit, I'm going to die again.

Bah! I got into a fine school with only three AP courses (AP Econ, AP English, and AP Music), and I only took 1 AP test and never even submitted the results, and I had a measly GPA of 96.97%.

The fact that you're calling a GPA of 96 "measly" is what I'm getting at right there. I have about an 88% GPA because I'm lazy and can't do math worth shit.

Your school is probably more difficult than mine. I didn't exactly go to an amazing high school. My last two years of school, the only real work I did was writing papers (without even reading the book) and doing music theory homework, but only because I liked it. I never even really brought any textbooks home. Aside from that, the most difficult work I did was converting moles to grams to molecules and so forth, and I got through that by designing a spreadsheet to do the work for me.

Wow. I definitely suppose so, then. We have a ton of work, and it's far too easy to fail in many classes. Basically, to get anywhere, you have to take as many high leveled classes as you can. Like I wanted desperately to drop Spanish this year, but I talked to someone, and it was decided that it would be better if I moved up a level than drop out, even though I suck at it.

I think it's still possible to get into decent schools even if you are not loaded up on amazingly hard classes. Students from my school go to places like MIT, William & Mary, Penn State, Notre Dame, UVA, Cornell, MICA, and other such schools on a pretty regular basis. Classes matter, and grades matter, but so do a lot of other things, such as extracurricular activities, hobbies, interests, admissions essays, and the like. Colleges today are really looking for well-rounded individuals that will be involved in a lot of extracurricular activities on campus.

Besides, it's always beneficial to relax and keep your number of worries and concerns to a minimum.

Of course, one good thing about a difficult course load is that it will help you develop a strong work ethic, which is of great importance in college (and something on which I personally could work harder).

I know, but that's the thing. Right now competition for UGA is so stiff that my grades may not get me there. My PSAT scores have been ok, but nothing special, and I don't do much besides band, and even though that looks good as an extracurricular, it's still only one thing. At my school, they make it seem as if college prep classes are worthless, because most people who actually do anything get A's, so it seems necessary to take better classes. We're also an IB school, so my course load with only 1 IB class is a whole lot lighter than a lot of people I know. It makes me feel pretty mediocre, since I get so many B's, and so as much a I'd prefer to relax, there's no way I can really do it, or so it seems.

My language arts class is doing a really good job of building my work ethic. The teacher cares more about teaching us and making an impact than the actual grades she gives us, so it's really nice. I wish all my classes could be like that- hard, but purposeful.
