when some mods say we can't double post nor spam, how come they spam or double post?

if they become a mod, do they have a freedom to do whatever they want and break a rule? i thought it wasn't fair for the other members. they get warned for double posting a lot or spamming and when some mods do that, they dont get warned...

so yeah just wanted to say that... that's rude and messed up.

I don't spam or double post..=/
Actually I do double post like in the Xanga Skins forum, when I'm answering questions on my 'How To Make A Skin' topic, because I'm too lazy to copy and paste all the quotes onto one entry, but posts in the Xanga Skins forum don't really count anyway..><

Hmm... idk.. I know that a few times I have accidentally double posted. One time, I clicked submit. Then it would go to an error page and I would click back and submit, again. >_<" But then I go and delete the post. :[ Should I not to do that?

And I rarely see any mods double post.. Maybe in our secret hideaway there have been some (I'm not sure)... And spam? IDK.. I don't see any that the mods have made.

I think that this whole situation is rather immature. First of all, how do you define "spam"? By writing an emoticon or a couple of words, does that make it spam? Sometimes that is all that needs to be said!

As for double-posting, i don't really see why that is a big deal. huh.gif A little conversation between people on a topic is not a bad thing. After all, isn't this a f o r u m ?

And lastly, i can tell you first hand that several of the moderators here do abuse their "power". Using administrative privaleges to mess with someone they don't like is wrong! But sadly this does happen. One mod has a problem with someone, and the next thing you know, it's like they are "blacklisted" from cB. Moderators won't accept skins, tutorials, etc... from people just because they have a "beef". Like i said in the first line... immature.

All of this non-sense has to stop. I find myself actually changing my username everytime is have a little spat with a cB employee just to avoid the sensless drama they seem to like to create.

I'm not saying that all moderators and staff are like this. There are tons of wonderfully talented, aspiring artist and programmers here. It's just a shame that all this creativity is muddled by these egotistical cat-fights and pointless arguements.

hi there,
thank you for voicing your opinions. please pm me with specific examples and ill see what i can do. i personally abhor power abusers, so i can assure you, if your accusations turn out to be true, these moderators will shiftly be demoted.

and i am saddened that you had to create a new account to remain anonymous to protect yourself from retaliation. forums should never be like this. idealy, it should be an open medium where ideas and perspectives are freely expressed without the fear of retaliation.

attached below is a copy of the moderator guidelines. if you feel any one of the current staff members is in direct violation, please pm me. and this goes to everyone, please take this chance to express yourself so that i can do something about it.

and those who have truthfully expressed yourselves, thank you. i hope cb will come out to be a stronger and friendlier community through this event.

QUOTE
GENERAL GUIDELINES
First and foremost, staff members are here to make sure everyone has a fun experience in these forums. They are here to help out whenever they can, contribute and make interesting new topics, and generally, be fun and nice! They also enforce the community guidelines, police the forums whenever problems arise, and act as mediators to resolve the disputes, mediators in the sense that they should never willingly participate to contribute to the problem. They are the solution, not the problem! They also police these forums in a sense that they lessen general mayhem by organizing and making sure that topics in their respective forums belong where they are. Another responsiblity staff members have is to promote the community "togetherness", by making sure everyone feels welcome, participating in the sitewide initiatives, and create some of their own. Generally, staff members have the gaurantee of the site's good grace and support in whatever initiatives, contests, polls they start. So be free and think of ways how you can play a central role in the fastest growing blog community!

...

MODERATOR FUNCTIONS
...

In addition, moderators have the power to warn members who intentionally cause harm to the community or perform actions deemed unacceptable by the community guidelines. This, however, should be used as a last resort. A private message should be sent to first time offenders informing them of the unacceptable behavior. Second time offenders may be given a warning. Only when there are multiple offenses should staff members resort in disabling the offender's posting ability or suspend the offender's account. The period of time for such action should never be more than 10 days. Send me a pm if you feel the offender's actions call for a more severe punishment.

...

USER AGREEMENT
...

Lastly, staff members caught abusing their power will be demoted on the spot.

Hi Mr. Createblog,

While you retain the right to do whatever you deem fair to keep this community a fun place for all, I hope that you'll remember to hear the story from both sides. What I've seen so far is just good humored fun from mods and ill-humor ONLY when it is warranted. Perhaps being a moderator requires that they must keep on a smiling face all the time and forgo their own emotions, but that can hardly be done if they must face perpetual offenders to the guidelines. If you see a fault with being "mean" and "rude", to those who repeatedly ignore the rules of this community, then I really don't see the point of having moderators.

To be fair, yes, I have seen a couple of double posts here and there made by mods, but I've noticed that, at least, they're relevant to the topic and helps us to continue discussing it. If there are posts that are just plain spam then and only then it would be just to count it against them.

As for the comment Miss Roh made about warning new members, I didn't think that was fair. I understand that it's <sarcasm> hard </sarcasm> to read and abide by the guidelines when people repeatedly tell them to, but that doesn't mean that they should be able to get away with spamming, asking questions that have already been answer one too many times... etc. Unless there are other things that they are warned for that is unfair, I can say that I am grateful to the moderators for doing their job.

I am definitely not saying that all the moderators are saintly and have not done wrong, but I am saying that while they have fun, the rest of us do, too, with the exception of bitter people who've been warned and still can't take a hint. I don't know what you plan for these forums, but I certaintly do not hope to see so many repeated topics, people who can't form coherent sentences, spamming and the likes.

About mods who abuses their power... I haven't seen an example of it yet and I'm sure you would like to see examples, too, before making any decision about demoting. Maybe Miss Roh will kindly supply us all, or just you and the offender, with proof.

Thanks for hearing me out.

hey thanks for such a thoughtful response.

i feel like i havent given the staff team as much credit as they deserve in my previous response. ofcourse they are the ones that make cb happen at a day to day basis and make it the enjoyable place that it currently is.

and i wasnt clear in my previous respons but when i talked of power abuse, i didnt mean technicalities such as what constitutes as spamming but the broader aspect of abuse. something like 'i dont like you so im going to make your life in cb as miserable as i can' kind of thing. and ofcourse the burden of proof will fall upon the plaintif, not the staff.

i value the staff team very highly. they were the ones that made sure cb kept on going through my 2 month absence here. and they continue to work very hard to ensure a quality and enjoyable cb experience for everyone. i can never express enough my appreciation for them. but its also important to give everyone an opportunity to express their opinions. its the only way we, as the cb staff team, can improve and better ourselves.

you were "blacklisted" from cb for numerious accounts of jocking, so lets STOP blaming the mods for not accepting any more of your skins. you brought it upon yourself when you decided to lie to us with your unoriginality.

and yeah so you had one bad encounter with waccoon... you ridiculed him in your signature and avatar. are you going to tell me that's not against the community guidelines? because i'm pretty sure that falls right under member bashing.

QUOTE

you do realize thats probably against the rules too, right? changing your username to avoid being suspended for repeated moderator bashing? you keep complaining that the mods abuse their power when you have an argument with them.. but why dont you actually think about the reason you even got into an argument in the first place?

we've went over this many times, and honestly, i didnt see a reason to bring it up again.

anyways to susan:

you've yet to provide an example, or any other proof that the moderators have abused their power by spamming/double posting and warning others when they do so..

I personally think.. the whole spam warning thing is bullshit.
You could be out for a week or even a day or two and miss out on so many new topics.
Especially if it was posted like months ago.. why bother closing the new thread, im sure half of the people havent even seen the thread that was posted months before.

And its the lounge.. dont you people talk generally about the same thing with your friends?

i think you should be able to talk about any random stuff in the lounge.

i agree with you. a lot of people [including some mods] will constantly tell people "dont double post" or "no spamming" and then, the next minute, they'll double post...like emoticons..

edit //

ooh yeah...ive also noticed A LOT that official members tend to do the same. they dont have any power over people, even though they think that they may be some big hot shot because of a silly title....

ok, s0 you people want a freakin` example...heres a topic where multiple people [no mods] double post lyk 10 times...especially airam [which i see a lot] and she doesn`t get warned or anything.

How about this. Can some of you post links to instances where mods are double-posting, spamming, or "abusing their power" because I'm not really sure what you guys are complaining about.

And another thing, if you really have a problem with one of the mods here, how about pming them or one of the administrators about it? That would be the sensible thing to do.

wtf? airam posted only 2 or 3 times and they werent even after each other. thats not the same as double posting. why would she get watned when she hasnt done anything wrong? besides which, you wouldnt necessarily know if someone got warned because theyre shown privately

also, youre an official member too stubborn.gif whistling.gif

i saw one ex-mod triple post yesterday, but he was proving a point, and someone merged the posts. theres a difference between spamming ignorantly, spamming intentionally, and spammng accidentally.

One, you have the "silly title". Two, official members are just like members except for a few perks. Three, when a person think they're big shots, they usually have the balls/guts to back themselves. Now then, if an official member think they're big shot, maybe it's because they are unless you have the guts to prove them wrong, if not, quit whining.

Oh, and kudos to you Micron.

Actually, that was an accident. The site was lagging a tad bit and, being the impatient person I am, kept clicking on it.

apparently some people don't know what double posting is.

when you respond to a topic again saying something different, that's not double posting.

double posting is when you post something right after a post you just made. for example:

girlygirl123: oh haha that's a funny joke!
boyishboy321: it is funny
boyishboy321: haha laugh.gif

that's double posting.

the only time we spam or go off topic is when the topic has nothing relevant to say. why would we say something relevant to something irrelevant?

and no one gets warned for spamming a couple times or double posting or making an existing topic etc..it's when they keep doing it over and over again when we've told them to stop. we don't warn on the first offense.

^ An example of a double post.

This whole thing is a misunderstanding, she made accusations without real evidence. Susan probably saw some spam once or twice and thought 'Yeah, all his posts must be like that'.

I don't know why there are people who say "Oh yeah I see them sometimes, it's usually an emoticon..", because none of the moderators spam like that.

I concur with you, Ashley. It would take a while. Administrators are the only ones who can alter post counts and choose whether a forum (maybe even a thread?!) should have post counts or not. It would take too long to lower post counts. Usually, when I see posts that are accidentally double-posted, I delete the second post. But if the post was intentional, say a person posted something. Then came back and said "OMG! How come no one replying?!?!" Then it was intentional. I agree with tweeak when she said "theres a difference between spamming ignorantly, spamming intentionally, and spammng accidentally. "

And thank you Jusun, for what you said. There's been countless times when mods have tried to contain any misdemeanors that have occurred. Maybe some of the members have official members and regular members confused with staff members. And often, it helps because I usually go and read what members have posted in any topic that I intend to post in or that looks interesting and I want to read it. And if I notice that the majority of the members believe that the thread should be closed, then I might even go consider closing it. I usually do that because it's important to take into consideration how other members react to the topic. Even if I want some topic to stay open, others might not. I'm not perfect; I can't always catch every little mistake.

And often, I might come off as an irritable person, but usually I try to get my point across. I may seem hostile in some of my posts/replies, but I most of the time, I try to apologize (whether in the same post or a later post) because I know that what I said might offend someone. And the last thing I want to do is offend someone that I don't even know and give a bad impression of myself, because I'm not usually like that. So I apologize if I've ever said anything rude. And thanks Ashley, for taking other member's feelings into consideration. hug.gif

Okay back to the subject.
QUOTE(caytexo @ Jan 4 2005, 5:33 PM)

I do hope you realize that angel roh was talking about the moderators. Please read the posts carefully before replying, that's all I ask of you. I'm sorry if I come off hostile; I don't mean this in a hostile way. Secondly, double posting is posting right after another.

krnxswat - It's okay, I've been impatient on some posts and it would lag and I would get worried. And I would appreciate it if other mods who noticed some members accidentally double posting, could please delete the double post. Remember there is a difference between accidentally and intentionally.

So.. you DO have the Delete option or not? I'm confused; I thought you guys didn't. When I was a regular member, I did not have the [delete] option for my post. Maybe things changed. What's gun-ho? Please stay on topic; your last line is a little confusing.

Please give us proof. I think I speak for those of us who choose to follow this topic as the replies keep growing, when I say "Please give us proof and stop stating the obvious." And to thse who've seen this about 10 other times, please ignore this part.

Sorry to bring it up again, but I just wanted to say that the delete button for regular members is a very bad idea. The same people who are saying that mods abuse powers now want to give every member a power like deleting posts? You think that won't be abused? I'm mostly a lurker at cb so I'm sorry if it seems like I don't have the right to speak up about this issue, but I've been following this thread and think it's really getting ridiculous. To be honest, a fair few people in here are making members look bad.

I may only lurk here, but I'm not a stranger to forums in general and this is one of the largest forums I've visited with an enormous number of members (for my experience, anyway). Giving those people the ability to delete posts simply because of ONE issue (that issue being accidental double posting) opens up the opportunity for so many more problems. Every forum has it's share of trouble makers and I've seen members at other forums make nasty or obscene posts to stir up trouble and then, after getting a few replies, delete the posts and act innocent. I've seen people at other forums delete their posts to make it look like the person who posted before and after them actually double posted when they didn't... so I honestly don't see the logic or the sense in suggesting that you be able to delete accidental posts when you already have the ability to edit and explain that it was accidental. I honestly don't think that any mod here would warn a member for accidental double posting.

I've really enjoyed lurking around these forums. I come here mostly to admire the incredible Xanga skins. I have never noticed in my time here a moderator acting inappropriately in anyway. And to suggest that they have without ANY evidence whatsoever is not at all credible.

I honestly feel like topics like these are meant to make the mods look bad. It's practically taunting. You bring all these members out of the woodwork to claim they've seem the mods double posting and spamming with no proof and then, when the mods are forced to defend themselves, they apologize that it may sound nasty! In my opinion, I think the staff has handled this near-attack with amazing couth.

And I suppose members do have the right to question staff. Members and staff are both integral parts of a forum. You cannot have one without the other. So if members feel like they are being disrespected, that's is unfortunate and should be addressed. But address it IN PRIVATE. There are PMs, emails, instant message... there are any number of ways where you can get in touch with staff to discuss a personal issue like this. I'm sorry, but I find it appalling that someone would simply call out staff members and accuse them of things without proof. Mods work hard and they do it for nothing and things like this can be incredibly discouraging. Is every mod perfect? Of course not. But they're PEOPLE. They're not machines. They can't do everything right all the time and no one should expect that of them. And no one should expect them to have to tolerate topics like this. And yet they do for the sake of trying to resolve an issue in order to better the forums.

I think the staff is doing a tremendous job in handling this and every other issue and I just wanted to give you all your due credit for that.

I hope I didn't offend anyone with anything I said. I honestly didn't intend to. And again, I'm sorry if my opinion isn't warranted because I'm not a frequent poster.

i feel this topic served its purpose, im going to close it now.

if you feel you've been unfairly treated by a staff member, please remember that you can always go to a head staff or admin to present your case. and if there are additional concerns regarding staff abuse, dont be hesitant to pm one of the admins. we take staff abuse really seriously and its not something that should be tolerated.

however, please do realize that the staff team is here to ensure a quality and enjoyable forum experience for all, and not for a selected or privileged group. in that sense, sometimes personal liberty must be corrected to spare the pain and discomfort of the majority. please do not take the corrections that we make from time to time personally. we are merely doing our job and by our corrective actions, do not mean to insult you at a personal level.

to close, thank you all for expressing your opinions like this. it brings me great happiness to know that so many of you care about the warefare of cb. we're a community effort, and our community is everything to us. in that sense, i can promise you that we will continually strive our best to bring you the very best cb.

thank you and good day.
