My school's dress code states that your hair has to be natural colored, the straps on your shirt have to be atleast 1 inch wide, you can't show any stomach, your skirts and shorts have to be at mid thigh or longer and guys can't show any underwear/boxers and they can only have 1 stud or small hoop in 1 or both ears.... But to the cheerleaders, members of the drill team, the the people in sports these rules don't apply and the principals turn the other cheek.

Now they're trying to tell the people that I hang out with ("goths" and "punks") that they can't wear black and that their hair can only be one (natual) color. When they say nothing to all the "preps" about their 3+ colored hair that has unnatural colors in it...

Is it just me or is that wrong?

Your best chance to screw up the school's administration is get a bunch of parents to complain to the school district.

thats pretty much wrong. the dress code should apply and ppl should get in trouble if their wearing anything gang-related/racial slur like things or too short of a clothing to worry about, not your "Hair color."

The Colony High School. It's about 30-45 minutes north of Dallas

That's horrible.

The thing is that you can't plot against the school because they have much more power than a student there.

I agree with the rest. The only thing that you could do is have the parent complain about...

wait that wouldn't work.

Most of the parents are probably happy that the kids can't have their hair a different color or that they can't have multiple piercings in the school. Having parents fight for the color of their childs hair and why it shouldn't be pnk is almost as narrow chance as seeing a polar bear in Dallas. It probably won't work.

Maybe you, yourself, should confront them and tell them what you think. Bring all your friends. All the "goths/punks" that you hang out with. Show that what they wear is an expression of individualism and they have the right to do what they want with themselves. As long as the color of their hair doesn't affect their studies it should be allowed.

If that doesn't work..maybe start a petition

and if that doesn't work I have nothing else for you blink.gif

hope it helped.

That is stupid.
I personally would rebel against it all, and write a formal letter to the school district.

In our student code of conduct it says that we can't do petitions... one of my friends did and she got suspended for a day...

That is so not fair. Complain to them. Tell them why it isn't fair. Who cares if you get in trouble or whatever? That's not right. Rebel against the rules.

schools would rather have all preps, as it looks better, never mind that they light up some weed on the weekends, as long as they don't look bad.

your best way to fight the system is to screw it over.

either find a friend in a high place, or...

find a teacher willing to stand up for it at the next faculty meeting.

what they are doing is actually ...well sorta illegal. if they make a code, it applies to everyone in the school. also, the thing about not being able to start a petition is bullshit. not only is that a constitutional law, it is also one of students' rights. they are violating your rights and you should be able to get them back. i don't remember exactly the students' rights handbook but you should research. they can't argue against you when you got the law backing you up.

this organization protects civil rights, including those of students.

What kinda crazy private school do you go to? "Natural color"?! "1 stud"?! No petitions? Sounds like a private school for sure... but then you said you didn't have uniforms.... ::mutters:: Thank God for public schools with lax rules.

That calls for a strike and complaining!!! What we did in our school we wrote one letter talking about the wrongs with the dress code because my school was like that last year, We couldnt wear anything that had a logo or design it was just pain clothes. So when we send in that letter we warned that more would come abd they didnt listen to we printed out like a million letters and just kep mailing them to the school as the year went by then this year they changed the dress code! You have to fight for your rights in a civiliza manner
