lol is kind of a space filler for me. or when something is mildly amusing. it's similar to a smirk for me in real life.

if i actually do find something really funny i use lmao of lmfao.

I rarely ever just say "lol"..
If I don't find something that funny, I'll just say "haha" or "heh" instead.
I say "LOL" when something is actually funny.. or I'll use "lmao" or "lmfao" sometimes.. depending upon how much I actually laughed.

NO WAIT that wasn't a good one. Heres a better example:

Lol is an acronym for "Laugh out loud" meaning you literally laugh out loud, not to say it when you have nothing to say, dumbnut.

i never use lmao. i dont like the word but im addicted to lol because it helps when im talking about something serious but i dont want sound mean or too serious so i say lol at the end to let people know im not that mad about it or shit. but if someone says something thats supposed to be funny, i say lol. if its something really funny i crack my head off and type SKJSKJFKLSJFLKSJFLJEF LOL AHAHAH

but....if you ever come across someone on the internet from Thailand, they might laugh like this: 55555555 because in thailand, the number 5 is pronounced "ha"

sometimes I say it because something is funny, however, I also tend to say it if there is nothing else left to say, besides, even if it's an unfunny joke, I think it's better for me to type "lol" than just say it's not funny and hurt the other person's feelings or type down nothing at all.
