"Few people realize that the origins of a form of Christmas was pagan & celebrated in Europe long before anyone there had heard of Jesus Christ" so I don't expect you to know...
It is very unlikely that Christ was born on December 25th. Christmas was celebrated under different names way before the time of Christ. In Rome it was called Winter Solstice. In ancient Babylon, it was to celebrate the Son of Isis. Christmas was also called Yule, symbolic of the pagan Sun God, Mithras.... Christmas was declared to be on December 25th by Pope Juluis I to make pagan Romans' conversion to Christianity as problem free as possible. So Why would it not be okay for Atheists or any other group to celebrate Christmas? Sure, Atheists tend to not believe in anything, but Christmas, aka the Winter Holidays, is celebrated in many cultures, not just in religion. By the way, this topic was brought up before by Kryo. |
