THE OFFICIAL MOS DEF ALBUM POST, THE NEW DANGER

This CD is nothing like anything I ever heard before. It reminds me of a certain Benjamin Andre CD or somewhat like Electric Circus.

Well, I got it today. You can't really describe it. It's rap, jazz, rock and more like all mixed. Lots of rock beats, totally different from Black on Both Sides. I totally respect Mos Def as an artist. It's either love or hate I guess.

I didn't like Andre's album at first but now I find it good (except for My Favorite Things), so you might feel that way with The New Danger.

feel free to chime in. also bay area heads the frontline cd came out too... i didnt get a chance to cop it but you know im gonna get it.

Mos Def is a rapper/actor. He released an album on October 12th. I commented about it because it is different from any other product on the market.

i hope that clears everything up

How can you not know who Mos Def is?

He's an actor, too, and has been in a few Hollywood movies. "The Italian Job" is one.

Throw that G-Unit, Lloyd Banks, Young Buck, Nelly, etc. garbage away.

Alright. I've thorougly listened to the album and I believe it is a must have. I absolutely love it. The first time I listened to it, I was a little weirded out by the few songs with awkward guitar riffs and the random screaming but I guess I just had to adjust to the different styles that Mos Def is experimenting with in this new album. I totally respect him even more for being innovative with this new album. Even the rock songs grew on me. I especially love the jazzy/bluesy and old-school inspired tracks on the album. Mos Def actually has quite a soothing and pleasant voice. Especially in "The Panties" and "The Beggar". The lyrics and vocals, as always, are on point. Especially on "Sunshine". Listen carefully.

Love it:
01 - The Boogie Man Song
04 - Zimzallabim
06 - Blue Black Jack
08 - Sex, Love, & Money
09 - Sunshine**
10 - Close Edge
11 - The Panties
14 - Modern Marvel
17 - The Beggar**

** - ABSOLUTE FAVORITES

Leave it:
03 - Ghetto Rock
16 - The Easy Spell

My favorite part of the album:
"brothers and sisters... fathers and mothers, that love us then leave us, they doubt us, believe us, they stayers, the quitters, the bitches, the niggas... rebel gorillas, the ghetto civilians, ya'll gon' feel it from the the first to the millionth"

holy shiznit! just listen to the delivery. ohmy.gif

5 words:

MOS DEF IS THE TRUTH.

still not feelin' the album whatsoever...

shit's bootie... too much rock and not enough time spent on the rhymes.... Mos fell off hard from Blackstar and Black on Both Sides....

he's gotta focus more on his rap cuz I ain't feelin' his rock too much.... he can sing though but the rock shit's annoying

I think Mos Def did well with his latest release. I can't say the same about Talib Kweli.

I just think that the beats were too club oriented. I mean, he made this album so that it would be more mainstream, and so that he could sell more, but I don't like the end product. I wasn't expecting another Train of Thought or Blackstar, but I was hoping it would be similar to Quality. And it's not.

you don't have an idea of what you're talkin' about.... he didn't make an album to sell... ARE YOU CRAZY!?!?!?! he was as "REAL", if not more, than on ANY ALBUM HE'S BEEN ON...

Track 1 - Revolution/Going Hard - he's talkin' about kids in Sierra Leone gettin' their arms chopped off while they're mining and fans/critics askin' how he can rappers wear diamonds around their necks knowing/not knowing this....

c'mon... get real... stop listenin' to the beats and listen to the lyrics.... Talib's album is AMAZING...

and the craziest thing is, they took two of the best songs from off the advance... (1) because they couldn't clear a sample (LONELY PEOPLE - ya'll gotta hear this song if you haven't cuz it's one of the greatest songs Talib's ever made and it's just straight AMAZING), and (2) I have no idea but it was called Supreme with Mos Def and that track was CRAZY!!!!

Anyway, the only "club banger" beat was the Neptunes produced one and that song was sick IMO... once again, listen to the lyrics... it had nothing to do with partying/clubbing/girls/anything of that nature....

it was actually a story-line talkin' about a girl who threw her life away. It was definitely better than Quality (though Quality is a near classic) but I think this album is a classic.... that's my opinion but I love EVERY track to the enth degree... I love it as much as Train of thought and Blackstar (two AMAZING albums at that)

back to Broken Glass - read the lyrics... they're deep and DOPE AS F*CK...

[Pharrell] Kweli!!!
[T. Kweli] Yeah! They wasn't expecting this! that's why ya
[Pharrell] Hahaha
[T. Kweli] Gotta hope for the best and play 'em for the worst, c'mon!
[Pharrell] Muhf**kers is history!
[T. Kweli] C'mon!!

[Verse - Talib Kweli]
This the story of - Lucy In The Sky Wit Diamonds
Ask her why she crying, she wanna live, she got no time for dying
Was a science, dreams too big for a small town
She gotta get to New York and watch a door fall down
Hopped off the Greyhound, gotta make her way now
She sleeping on the park benches in the playground
But cash burn quick, don't wanna have to turn trick
Ready to quit 'til she met the super pimp
Flashing his toothy smile that drove little Lucy wild
She quick to hop up on his d*ck straight Hoopie style
She let the fella hit but she sang she sell-a-bit [celebate]
He ain't buying that, she ain't selling it
She looking for love in all of the above
Believing videos, trying to back up all on a thug
Who wanna - put it in her, withdraw like a Citi card
But now she shake that ass for tips at the titty bar

[Chorus - Talib Kweli] (Pharrell)
Broken glass - everywhere! (IT'S LOUDER!!)
Louder - than a bomb shattered in in the air (IT'S LOUDER!!)
Try to hold back your tears baby! (IT'S LOUDER!!)
Wait a second, what happens here baby? (IT'S LOUDER!!)
Broken glass - everywhere! (IT'S LOUDER!!)
Louder - than a bomb shattered in in the air, yeah
(How many of y'all think you can do what we do?!)
Yeah! Wait a second (One! Two! Three! C'mon!)

[Verse - Talib Kweli]
Dreams shattered like broken glass
Press ignore it and your hopes get broken fast
You complain for the life you supposed to have
But when you try to make plans God is known to laugh
Throw a song on the phonograph, and Lucy start wilin
The trick start smiling, watch the loot start flying
The Gucci start pilling up, she live designer plush
Start lining up the coke so she could find a rush
Time's up, she's about to turn 33
Her shit started to sag, she got surgery
Now cats are used to drive past her like a Church van
Acting on thirst, 'She Wants To Move' like a N.E.R.D. fan
Bigger house, 10,000 dollar purse fam
She let you in, she wanted rent by the 1st man
She the ring leader in a clique of birds
And they shadowy, like the silhouette behind the curtain

[Chorus]

[Verse - Talib Kweli]
She was a small city girl with big city dreams
Niggaz try to figure how to get up in them jeans
Put her in them scenes, get her on the team
Hit her wit the cream 'til they figured out the schemes
Now she all up in the club looking for a new love
Really like Huey Lewis looking for a new drug
Cause coke's getting old, started free basing
Graduated to crack, smack on occasion
Not catching the bus, but back at the station
Back and forth pacing, acting all impatient
Last hundred dollars, she got to 'Get By'
Now gotta make a choice, go home or get high
Mommy and daddy miss her, she left for the fame
Now what's left is the dirt that's thrown on her name
She need a ticket home if it's the right course
Instead she bought a ticket to ride the white horse

[Chorus]

once again... I think it's a CLASSIC EASILY....

beats aren't too club orientated... only Broken Glass but the tracks have nothing to do with "club orientated" so it doesn't make a difference.... if the lyrics aren't club orientated but ONE beat sounds like it, it doesn't mean that the tracks are "too club orientated"....

still a classic EASILY.... AMAZING album... I disagree with you on this too

Have you guys seen his video for "Sex, Love, & Money" yet? Man, I've been looking for it on the net and can't find it. I would just wait for it to come on TV, but you know BET and MTV... they're too busy playing out Nelly and Lil Jon videos to actually be playing a REAL artist's video instead. Plus I'm never home to be watchin TV. cry.gif

Plus, I really wanna see Mos Def's sexy ass.

Ok, I just finished watching the whole thing. It looks like something that should be on BET Uncut. I'm am VERY disappointed in this video... and Mos Def.

I still think Sunshine should have been the first single. OH well.

so you are saying A Game, we got the beat, work it out arent club orientated beats?

A Game, yeah, probably... MAYBE We Got the Beat BUT DEFINITELY not Work It Out...

Work It Out WOULD NEVER EVER BE PLAYED IN A CLUB... the shit's not "live" enough... the tempo/drum pattern/instrumental in general, isn't even somethin' to put a bodily rhythm to....

so I'll give you the maybe and that's still 3 outta 12 tracks that's "club orientated" beat-wise.... but the lyrics nor the hook are ANYTHING you'd put into a "club banger".... so the song isn't "club orientated".... listen to ANY "club banger" and it won't have lyrics remotely close to the type of lyrics Kweli put in....

still not "too club orientated".... no songs about "get'cha hands up"... "party 'n drink", "grab ya hoes/b*tches", "shake that ass", blah blah blah

NOT ONE....

oh, and Xquizit, you peep the John Legend yet? I'd like to know what'chu thought 'bout it

DAMN, THAT WAS A FAST ASS REPLY... ummm... Quality had a few... I'm 'bout ta go through that album real quick and put it on and tell you which ones..... ummm... Blackstar had none from what I remember.. I just listened to Reflection Eternal today and I would say a few had "club banger beats" but wasn't a club banger due to the lyrics... JUST AS BEAUTIFUL STRUGGLE....

UPDATED:
Waiting for the DJ was one... Rush had a "club banger" type beat IMO but wasn't a club banger cuz the lyrics.....

nah "feel the rush" is a maybe... and waiting for the DJ is too slow to be a real club banger... im just saying this is the first album with real club beats... you could walk in a club and hear "broken glass" playing... i even hear broken glass playing on local radio stations between some lil jon and lil scrappy...

but does the beat really make the song!?!?!? c'mon Topheavy, I thought more of you than that.... the lyrics make the song... you should know that, ESPECIALLY as an MC....

someone can take a WACK ASS beat and make a great song outta it if he can somehow make a hook and flow and lyrics that goes perfectly to it.... ummm... listen to J.U (Juice/J.U.Ice/MC Juice)... made a lotta dope songs (even without hott hooks) on bad beats...

ummm.... aside from that... if someone gives you a SAD ASS BEAT, it doesn't make a sad song... ummm... listen to Ni99az by Triangle Offense (Joe Budden, Fabolous, and Paul Cain for those that don't know)... if you listen to the instrumental alone, it sounds like some sensual/sad type shit... but they end up spittin' some punchline oriented type shit... so is it some sad shit? no... it's some punchline type shit....

OH YEAH, and Waiting for the DJ isn't too slow of a beat... only the hook is slow but the beat for the verses are fast................

that's my word

I agree. Too much booty and titties. But it makes sense though, the song is called, "Sex, Love and Money."

[edit] But Mos was looking HELLA sexxy though. [/edit]

[edit] I don't really like "Sunshine." For his next single, I would love for him to release "The Panties."[/edit]

Oh, did he. dribble.gif We got to see him shirtless!

I do like "The Panties" but I'm not sure if it would get much airplay.

Champion Requiem may also make a solid single... I get the feeling that "Ghetto Rock" will be his next single...

I dunno if it's officially a single, but Ghetto Rock has been rendered into a video. Check it out on Launch.com.

yeah... i don't think "sex love and money" is the most deserving of that award... he would have been better off with "sunshine" or something.

I don't think Mos will win either and Jill won't win cuz that song isn't that good.

"She Wants to Move" is a great song, in my personal opinion, but I'm not too sure that it'll win. Not everyone likes it. It's one of those you either hate it or love it type of songs and that could really work against them.

I've yet to hear the songs by Musiq or the Roots, but going by past listening experiences (I have two of Musiq's cds and The Roots' Phrenology) the Roots are more deserving.
