Like I always tell everyone! Do what I say, not what I do! Remember that, and you will understand why your parents do that when you become a parent yourself.

Well, when you have a bad habit, you wouldn't want your children to have the habit as well, so you'd tell them not to do it.

Exactly. They're trying to steer you away from habits that they regret having, in hopes of raising you the 'right' way.

reason i was asking cuz if you noticed as much as a parent teaches a child they turn out doing what they were told not to to do i mean there may be SOME things they wont do (we wont get into that) but like as they always say you will have the same trades as your mother and father........ isnt that what were all hoping for? hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

that sort of reminds me of how parents teach their children not to physically fight and use their words instead of violence....yet war is okay?

That's not always the case. If your parents are successful, they'd want you to be successful like them. However, even success means different things to different people/parents. You can be dead-beat but rich and still be successful to some people; or be just lower middle class but raise a good family and helps out your community and be successful.

My parents don't want me to have their trades... they want me to be something better and have more then what they're capable of.

That's like telling your kids not to smoke, while you smoke three packs a day.
