I was just browsing through random xangas and came across some anorexia and boulimia pages. people had posted about their disorder/s and were giving tips on how to get the most out of them. they had their blogring module filled up with "Ana & Mia" blogrings. There were so many! it kinda disturbed. what do you guys think about this? ermm.gif _unsure.gif

Wow, that's scary. I think it's not worth doing all that stuff because it's not healthy. It just shows how much people are willing to do just to look like skinny supermodels. ermm.gif

i know what you mean! i am a fat person...yes i will admit it...and i would never do that! i would want to lose weight the healthy way - diet and excercise - not by starving my self or throwing up... _unsure.gif

OI'm really skinny, and I'm trying to get fat.
Sadly, braces aren't helping.
These anorexic/bulimic people probably are trying to get out of all this, but they realize that once they start, it'slike an addiction.

Anorexia and Boulimia are just quick, YET DANGEROUS, escape boats from Dieting the natural/healthy way. It's terrible to see people doing thi sto their body. People should be happy with what they've got and/or were born with.

Losing weight is eating fewer calories than you use. It's not that hard. You don't need to be anorexic to do it.

well, i used to be anorexic. it's not a good thing to be. and, i agree, it is kinda sick how people intentionally starve themselves or puke everything they eat. eh, i'm glad i realized how bad it was and stopped.

Agreed.

But if society never deemed what beauty is (slim/hour glass body/etc), then why would there be psychological problems concerning how a body should be formed? huh.gif

If you constantly think about your weight and you still think you're fat, and you BARELY eat anything [an apple a day, etc] then...yeah, I think you are anorexic. But if you're fine with your weight now [as you should be], then you might just have a fast metabolism.

Errr... I'm bulimic. I'm trying to quit but it's hard. Growing up, I was a fat kid so my Freshman year I got sick of it (I was 75 lbs over-weight) and lost weight (Down to 130) the healthy way, diet and exercise. But I had problems keeping it off (95% of people who go on diets end up gaining it back) and I wasn't about to lose something I worked so hard for. The only way I could think of maintaining my new weight was puking up what I had eaten. Then, you might say: just cut down on what you eat and you won't have to puke up your food. Some people, eating is how they deal with boredom or anxiety and I happen to be one of them so I just put food in my mouth without even realizing it... Eating is a way of comfort for me. So yeah, puking it up is what I found the best way to keep it off. It's much easier than running it off.
I'd rather stay a size seven/eight then go back to a size sixteen. Wouldn't you?

I'm fully aware of what can happen to me. Esophagus damage/cancer, eroded teeth, irregular heart beats, etc. But it's pretty difficult to break a three-year habbit. Many people think you lose weight with bulimia, no, it's just a way to prevent weight gain.

And yeah, they are mental diseases. It's usually (but not all cases) because the person has low self-esteem and think if they get thinner people will like them more. Which, I've found, is true because the world is pretty shallow. Eh, anyway... I strongly advise people to not get into eating disorders. Honestly, yes, they do get the job done (weight loss, weight managing) but in exchange you become weak and have plenty of health risks. Eventually, the disorder ends up ruling your life.

EDIT:
Oh yeah, some people say if it's a mental disease why not seek help/therapy for it? The problem is, it's a shameful disease (obviously, most of the posts on this thread were saying "it's gross") and people who have it are very secretive. I don't care to tell you people because I don't know you and I don't want anyone getting into it. But, none of my friends or family know. If they knew they'd be very ashamed of me... Not to mention, I don't want them worrying about me.

Hm.. so i was looking through all the Xanga featured content, and all I found were these EXTREMELY scene kids and their "thinspirations" (saying no to food. "I'm too freaking fat even though I weigh 80 freakin pounds". I want to be skinny. I want to be skinny...)

W. T. F. Seriously. And guess what? All their comments are from people who actually support them! Why are there so many of them, and why don't they just go eat a freaking bowl of ice cream and a bag of potatoe chips?? Drown all their woes of being so-called "toothpick skinny and at the same time pretty" in mouthfuls of fat. Being that skinny ain't gonna happen, honey. Well, maybe it would, unless you want to end up in the hospital, err , the coffin. Gah! Erg, they're just people who have no lifes and open up some fake, lame journal about their f**king anorexia. GRR.

Anyone notice this? stubborn.gif

Yeah have to seen bunches of those. You have to keep in mind though that anorexia is a desease. Some people girls are willing to risk dying to be skinny. I have read some these journals though and most are just bullsh*t. They just want to be skinny because its the "in" thing. Now that makes me sick

Yes i've seen those, and i've had friends that have that problem. Guys and Girls. But it doesn't make me mad. I feel sad about it actually, and anorexia is a disease like kiera said. They could indeed be 80 pounds and stare at themselves in the mirror and really see 170 pounds. Or they would be healthy, but have a few parts of their body that they dislike and think are fat. The thing is, instead of eating and eating to comfort themselves, they don't eat to comfort themselves. And the pressure nowadays to be extremely thin, adds to it greatly.
and what you said here..

QUOTE
"Erg, they're just people who have no lifes and open up some fake, lame journal about their f**king anorexia. GRR.

do you really believe that? If this bothers you so much, don't read their online journals. The thing is, is that they are very self-conscious. but they do have lives, and there is nothing fake about it. Not all people do this to get attention. Sometimes its hard for people to understand it if they've never been through it, or if their friends haven't been through it. But still...it's a serious matter.

They're really sad. They just don't know how beautiful they really are and sometimes end up being tad ugly after they're thin.
These people should really stop.
And I can't believe their commnets are from people who support them.

the reason is, because pro ana girls flock with other pro ana girls, for support because the entire world has a habit of instead of trying to help them, putting them down, thrusting them to look futher into the disease. I know, I've been there. A lot of the girls have no one to turn to, so they stand for eachother. When I was going thru my extreme dieting/eating disorder fase, I got probably 6-20 props a day from these girls. they just wanna help eachother know they arent suffering alone. Really what needs to be done, because a lot of the girls are depressed and cut themselves along with stavation, is people need to be more supportive in helping them conquer the problem, because anorexia is a disorder. You are mentally handicapped in a way. And so many people are like you stupid idiot you are so superficial why dont you just die, which makes them more depressed and makes them hate themselves more. So yeah. go to a pro ana site, its very compelling and very scary. I still cant to one because I start wanting to go overboard and diet and crap. Its hard. so dont be so quick to judge those girls. You would want to be judged if you had severe mood swings due to manic depression would you? Its not like its your fault. A lot of these girls try to help eachother get to where they want to be and get out of the situation. Many of them write about going to rehab or whatever its called, so that they can over come the problem. Its a very scary world. And its starting a lot younger now a days too. THere are 8 and 9 year olds thinking they need to diet. So the best thing to do is not judge them or put them down, just pray for them, or just leave them alone.

Yeah, I've seen tons of those because this one girl I knew had a xanga & she was anorexic and she got tons of comments everyday from other girls like her. I've seen a bunch of blogrings like that too. I was looking at this one girls the other day & she had pictures of Adrianna Lima and other models and was like "ohh my thinsperation for the day!" and I was just like wow...pretty pathetic.

yeah, i found all of those a while back. i mean, i dont know what to think of it because i dont really have the right to judge because i am neither of the two, and i really dont know what it is like/why they do it. but, disturbing yes, but i'm not going to pass judgment on it.

I find it sick, why can't they just exercise like the old fashion way it's better than starving yourself or throwing up.

anorexia, is like where people think they need to loose more and more weight even tho they are already skin and bones! and bulemia is where you throw up alot of food. middle school taught me all those things  ohmy.gif ! lmao!

actually you are wrong. You can weight 300 pounds and be anorexic. Get it right. I know. I've been there. well..not 300 pounds, but anorexic without being skin and bones. so there. And bulimia is where u try to starve yourself, then u binge and eat toooo much food, and then trow it up.its a vicious cycle.

i know a girl from my old school who's anorexic and bulimic. i feel really bad for her, shes trying to get rid of it.

i wouldn't ever do that to myself.
1) i love food - haha - sucks for me
2) i can't MAKE myself throw up...lol

almost sounds like me. except i dont throw it up and i dont try to starve myself. lol i just kind of forget to eat for a long period of time, then eat soo much its close to TOO much lol

what pisses me off is that i have some friends at my school who are way too skinny, for the main reason that they have extremely fast metabolism (these people are guys) and i know that most of them eat A LOT (much more than me)... and they practically look anorexic, especially one of them. no im not pissed off that they're skinny. im pissed off because one of them thinks of himself as "normal weight" when hes definitely underweight and he looks really unhealthy. And he goes around calling other people fat and he tells me i should go anorexic. i hate him so much when he starts saying stuff like that, not only to me, because i think hes gonna eventually ruin someone's life.

Eating disorders scare me. But I understand why people have them. Anorexics usually feel like the only thing that they have control over is food, so they like the feeling of being thin and eating tiny portions. Bulimics just don't have control, hence why they binge and purge. And society doesn't really help with all the skinny people advertising everything.

Eating disorders are neuroses, a category of psychological disorders. It's because of the way your mind thinks. Someone may see all this fat when they look in the mirror, but it's not really there. It's also partly because of the media which pressures you to "improve" your body image and make you feel inferior.

I read this thing that said real anorexics/bulimics [is that how you spell it?] try to keep their disorder a secret so I think they're doing it for attention. =/ Unless those sites also give tips on how to hide it...

OK Yeah i've had my experiences with dislikeing my body but then again so does everybody. Some take it farther than others and those who take it a little too far are those who begin Anorexia and Buliemia and then post it on the websites. I think it's just horrible that girls, and guys too sometimes, would ever subject themselves to such torture. I wouldn't be able to last a day witout eating, I start getting headaches, dizzyness, then i throw up and pass out. Well then again i guees that wouldbe kinda bulemia but it's only happened once and so then i started eating everyday. But i still think that people should just be happy with themselves and if they're not then they should talk ot their parents or their doctor for safe ways to lose weight instead of starving themselves or making them selves throw up/poop/whatever else they do to get skinny.

Aneorexic girls don't quit eating entirely, they just eat much less then you're supposed to. They eat a much smaller meal or occasionally fast. Currently, I suppose I'm borderline aneorexic. Last week I was in Barnes and Nobles with my mother and passed out for a few minutes. I guess that shook me up a little but I'm still persistent.
As for being bulemia, I can never get myself to do that. I just physically can't get myself to vomit.
Some people though take it so far it's kind of scary. This one girl, on xanga, gosh.. it gave me nightmares. She was so extremely skinny. But I guess that's what ana (anorexia) and mia (bulemia) do. It's so addictive.

It’s just an addiction like all the others (alcohol, nicotine, etc). If you have the willpower, you can overcome it. Yes, it is psychological but so is the solution to the disorders.

I also agree with whoever said that it has a lot to do with our society. The average dress size for a woman is a 10 but you don't see any size 10 models gracing the covers of "Vogue" and "Glamour".

I wish people could just be happy with just being plain old healthy, not rail thin! But I know its hard to be happy with yourself in a society full of starvation diets and plastic surgery. _dry.gif

i think it is wrong but i have a friend who used to be both, or at least she said she was, she never really got real real skinny, but she would call me and i could hear her throwing up when she would tell me to hang on

i think that if you want to be that way then its fine but i know some girls and guys make it up bc they want the atttention. and i think that is wrong, people die from this and its not funny or cute or anything remotely attractive to tell people that when youre not.

and im not saying anyone on here is lying bc i dont know a single one of ya, but i do know people that do it.

and i know that you cant help it, it does become addictive. ive actually thought about it, but i cant bring myself to do it.

My best friend in high school was bulemic. She didn't admit that she was sick until she started throwing up blood. By then, she had done permanent damage to her stomach. She will have bleeding ulcers in her stomach for the rest of her life. She also damaged her teeth from throwing up so much. She had to have some of them pulled and others filled and sealed. She can't eat anything spicy, steaming hot, meat of any kind, or anything really acidic, like oranges. She can't drink soda or alcohol or take some medications because of her stomach.

It is a mental disease that spirals into a physical one. It is dangerous and fueled by a society where thinner is better and the thinner you are, the prettier you are and the more people supposedly love you. Starving yourself and purging yourself is dangerous and stupid and it destroys those around you once they realise what's going on. I can't tell you how many times I had to help my best friend out of the bathroom at school after her throwing up had gotten the best of her. How many times she fainted, had chest pains, fell down.....her hair started falling out and she began having headaches and seeing spots, all caused from not eating and putting her body through the rigors of throwing up many times a day.

If you have an eating disorder, please get help. Don't let other pro-ana/bulemia people egg you on. Those people are just as sick as you if not sicker. Don't let it get to the point where it's death or permanent damage. Get help. No one will love you any less if you're average weight or even overweight. People who like you cuz you're thin, pretty, exotic...are shallow people and don't deserve you anyway.

DON'T LET AN EATING DISORDER DESTROY YOU. OF ALL THE THINGS TO DIE FROM, AN EATING DISORDER IS ONE OF THE MOST PAINFUL THINGS TO DIE FROM BECAUSE YOU MAKE THE PEOPLE THAT LOVE YOU WATCH YOU WASTE AWAY. THERE'S NOTHING THEY CAN DO, BECAUSE YOU REFUSE TO LET THEM HELP YOU OR YOU ARE SO SET ON CONTROLLING THIS ONE THING IN YOUR LIFE THAT YOU LET EVERYTHING ELSE SPIRAL OUT OF CONTROL. YOU LET YOUR EATING DISORDER CONTROL YOUR LIFE, AND ULTIMATELY, IT WILL CONTROL YOUR DEATH AS WELL.

sadly, internet has actually helped more girls (and boys) to develope eating disorders. i think it's wrong what they are doing. if they are ana or mia... that's their own issue, but must they help other people develope an eating disorder too? if i was anorexic or bulimic i would not make a website giving tips to help other ana or mia people. they do need help... it's scary that they are actually "dying to be skinny".

Anorexia and Bulimia are a lifetime struggle. You don't just wake up and have it or say "I'm really skinny, omg i'm aNa!!**!!". I've been struggling with my appearance my whole life and started suffering from anorexia about 4 years ago. It is an endless and daily struggle, and it's also extremely personal. I've attempted recovery many times but I always go back, the disease is always there.

Don't mess around with eating disorders, and don't claim to have one if you don't. It's not something fun or something to brag about.

Finally someone who admits to having the disease, but did not compensate her common sense for it. It is sad when girls feel they must brag on xanga about the daily abuse of their bodies. Its true purpose is only to make themselves feel better about the situation, unaware they are further jeapordizing their fellow supporters chances of ever overcoming the disease (as well as their own).
Like glitterxthin said it is a personal matter, not a trend that should be portrayed as a fun or rewarding lifestyle...because ultimately it is not.

I'm not sure what you're asking, Frankie, but if you're asking if I think it's wrong, then yes.

A lot of people complain about their weight, when they really need to realize that it's their fault. If they look at their daily diet, it's probably filled up with fatty shit. I'm exactly that way. But I don't think I'd ever turn to anorexia or bulimia as a solution.

If the weight problem is something genetic, they just have to learn to love and accept themselves.

People really need to stop saying, "It's because of models in magazines." Think about it. Would you really want to see overweight people on the pages of your magazine? And anyone who would feel bad about themselves because of someone thinner than them is just weak.

Not to mention that vomiting constantly is really bad for your stomach and teeth..

i have to admit, i almost gag sometimes when i look at myself in the mirror with a bathing suit on or something. usually i wear clothes that don't show that i'm not as skinny as people perceive. i probably would be anorexic or bulemic, but it's just too extreme for me..i don't want to put myself through pain to compensate for the pain i feel about myself. life is pain, and people have to get through it..

however, i know what it's like to care so much about your appearance. it's shallow and superficial, yes, but people have reasons. if people want to look good, then so be it. i have a very extremely low self-esteem from years of torment over my looks. in middle school i was often called "ugly pig thing" by a couple kids in my grade (well, more than a couple..) so, naturally, i wouldn't feel too hot about my looks. i'm overly cautious about it and i complain about every little thing that isn't right. i want the teasing and name-calling to stop with me, so i do everything i can to make myself look good enough for people to treat me like a human.

i don't think it's wrong to be anorexic or bulemic at all. people care about how they look; it's natural. these people are probably bullied or teased about their looks, so they're overcautious. or in the case of mary-kate olsen - she was probably pressured by other celebrities. now, i know; the girl is freaking tiny. but she probably looks in the mirror and doesn't see that beautiful, perfect body she has. she sees every little imperfection and wants to fix it. anorexia and bulemia is a way she could. i'm not saying it's good or anything..just that i understand why people would choose to take that route.

i have a friend who is a member on a ana site. I've looked at it with her... its actually very sad. Some girls weigh around a 100 pounds and still claim to be "discusting." Their goals are extreme and frightening. As for my friend, I hope she realizes that to lose weight you have to do it the healthy way. Not starvation. As for myself. I am a little overweight 145-150 lbs. But I eat whatever I want and I'm happy. biggrin.gif

Do you realize those of you who are saying how disgusting it is..... how sick of it You Are! These are actual disorders and if you get the picture it is not about you! So instead of disgust show care or find someone who can. No one is asking you to watch them puke. That's not the real issue anyway. But just stop whining about how sick you are of it...... You have to realize there are other issues going on and while you see one thing they see a distorted image. So know where to step in know where to back off . huh.gif

Aw, but you're so pretty! console.gif And I agree with you: I've been teased about my weight, and I'm actually trying to lose weight.

But anorexia/bulimia isn't going to help at all. It's really horrible to see those girl just starve themselves like that.
