AMD claims 3000+ is equivalent or superior to a P4 running at 3.0ghz.
2800+ is equivalent to a P4 running at 2.8 ghz.

The 3000+ would be better, unless of course, you don't have the money for it.

The Athlon64 is a 64 bit processor. It's also compatible with 32-bit applications.

The AMD-64 also has higher performance than the XP 2800+ or XP 3000+ processors. With it's Hyper-transport technology (I believe 1600mhz FSB (front side bus)) it can run at slower clock speed while pumping out comparable performance to higher clock speed Pentium Processors. Microsoft has a beta version for a 64 bit windows and Pentium is developing a 64 bit processor of it's own.
