What are your views on conformity?
I personally do not think it's okay for someone to conform (willingly, anyway)... Conforming just takes away from you being your own individual and having your own ideas, beliefs, and opinions.

Conforming in what context? I mean, you have to conform when you're at work, school, or things of the sort.

Well I don't believe you should conform to every single thing, but if you want to get things done, you have to follow the rules.

that makes sense its like to a nonconformist there's nothing worse than a person who doesnt believe in conformity doesnt confrom to what normal nonconformists do.

but conformity is wrong. conversion for a good reason is good.

Meaning....

Noncomformists do not like people who conform, but what noncomformists do not realize is that they dislike comformists for NOT agreeing to comform to their ideals.

Meh, I think I just made it more confusing....

I'll explain without using "conform" too much :P

I'm going to use stereotypes, watch out.

Punk Girl hates Prep girl, but Punk girl hates Punk girl 2 more because punk girl 2 does not appreciate the same bands or dress and act enough like her.

does that make sense?

why did you explain?

Because there is no way anyone is going to understand how you guys explained it, unless they read it carefully, many times. (That doesn't apply to everyone)

And my explanation just makes it easier. *shrug*

i would be a non-conformist if the norms were something that i did not believe in..
let's say the norm was to beat up all geeks.. i wouldn't want to follow that so i'd be a non-conformist for befriending the geeks.
i guess it all depends on the situation...
wait.. am i even making sense here..? i think i am.. i hope i am.. >.<
anyway.... you just have to look at your morals and beliefs, and see if societal norms are something you want to follow.. either go against the tide or just flow with it.. your choice..

woah! for once you're incorrect! a non-conformist doesn't have to hate conformists. they just don't conform with the conformists. it's too bad that most "non-conformists" don't accept conformists, therefore making themselves hypocrits. "be a non-conformist with us" *head explodes*

as for my opinion on conformity i can't say i support it but then again i'm not really against it. without conformists being unique wouldnt'd be special anymore.

happy.gif Wouldn't be the first time I'm incorrect.... I'm just interpretating from the quote. I guess I'm doing it wrong... or being too generalized. Thanks for clearing that up.

Be yourself. There's no need to copy off someone else, you'll be a fool if you do. If you have any mind at all you can be original, and show your OWN views rather than droning out repitions from the norm.

Well, I actually appreciate some people who are conformists...

I believe that there is a trend in non-conformity, thus making true non-conformists to appear contradicting. So, lets forget about the "trend" for a while, and just think of what conformity is and isn't and then just use common sense.

Saying that "I do not conform" will not make sense if you take too literally. Why? You happen to wear clothes, therefore aren't you conforming to standards set by society? But when you use common sense, conforming to society's rule of wearing clothes in public isn't so bad now, is it?

"'He who would be free,' says a fine thinker, 'must not conform.'" - Oscar Wilde.

Eccentricity is a good thing most of the time, but if everyone possesses it, then we would not have distinction between leaders and followers since everyone will want to do things their own way.

Because it's not good for every human to be too eccentric, we must have conformity, so it's not so bad of a thing until someone decides to misuse it.

that just prooves there is no such thing as complete non-conformity. you can choose how much you want to participate in it, but you can't not conform.

unfortunately theres a trend called non-conformity that's really just a different kind of conformity. i am opposed to conformity trends. they're unnecescesary and idiotic most of the time. i think that was the conformity the question was about.
