How can someone not pass highschool? I know two people who dropped out, and I have to wonder how dumb you have to be not to be able to pass H.S. They make it so you can graduate, even if you're a total buffoon. For example, the normal math curriculum includes : Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Calculus, stupid people are allowed to take "Basic Math" and "Math for living" classes where the only requirment is that you can do basic arithmetic. I can only imagine what goes through an employer's head when they see that someone is a highschool dropout--its basically a sign that reads "I'm too stupid to live".

THIS IS REGARDING IN TODAYS WORLD AND WHERE EDUCATION IS FREE

yeah, I wonder that myself sometimes also. My friend didn't graduate high school because he was doing drugs and NEVER went to school... whenever he went, he would ditch some of his classes... IMO, high school was sooo easy, all you have to do is attend... wacko.gif oh well...

rofl... you're ignorant, ya know that??

Your first assumption... People who don't graduate high school are stupid...

Not every situation is like that, hun... far from it too... Ever think that maybe those people have personal problems?? Maybe they've made a few mistakes, and they can't go back on 'em now? Maybe they've hung out with the wrong crowd, they get distracted, ignore the fact that they need/want to finish highschool and just don't make it??

How can you judge someone just cuz they dropped out of highschool? You're an idiot to assume that stuff... seriously... You don't know what ANY of those people go through... Maybe doing things that caused them to drop out of high school were dumb, but you can't assume that they themselves are dumb as well

Family problems... friend problems... addiciton problems... distractions from school...

I'm not gonna get into details with any of this, because you probably wont understand, so I'm not even gonna effing bother with you about that...

I just find it to be ignorance on your part when you assume sh!t about people in general when you don't even know the half of it

Addiction problems? Hence, drug addict? Yes, you already are too stupid to live if you are doing drugs. Why the hell are you smoking and doing heroin or whatever. You're going to end up dead, and dead. Distractions from school? Whats distracting you? Girls? Guys? Yes, great reason for you to drop out. Family problems eh. Sure, I'll leave in one or two excpetions. Like if their mom has cancer and you are her only family. Friend problems. How exactly will your friend have you drop out. Back up some statements please.

Yeah, that's true... not everyone that drops out is just because they're "stupid" or whatever... I knew a girl that dropped out because she got pregnant, she wasn't too stupid to graduate high school though... but she had to because she had to take care of her baby... but in the case of my friend, mentioned above, he was just dumb... he never took school seriously. _dry.gif

some ppl just dont care, or think they have all the time in the world. but whatever, that's their decision. or they have other things that they find more important to them. ..

like, a few of my buddies that i was talking to the other day have dropped out or just not cared, and well, for the most part, they're regretting it. ie; "if only i could go back to hs, i would be a straight A student" and that kinda stuff.

sadly, we're only allowed one chance. so, try to care, even a little.

[=x i shouldnt be talking tho. i havent really cared about my schooling... -_- but i'm gonna stick in there& graduate .. ^^*]

i live in texas... its pretty hard to graduate in my school district..

to basically graduate u need to have passed
english 1,2,3,4
passed 3 diff math's,
pass 2 diff sciences,
1 1/2 yrs of PE/Athletics,
Health, Speech and AAS (Advanced Academic Skills),
ECO/GOV,
US and World History
1 Technology Class
1 Science Elective
and there's probaly more to it....

and pass the TAKS test ur junior year for Science, Math, Reading and Writing.... if u dont pass the TAKS, u take it ur senior year and if u dont pass it again, ur focked..

u take taks ur sophomore and freshman year also but the sophomore one doesnt really count...

THEREFORE... we get a couple of dropouts every year... but its only like a couple of them.... and then our school has alot of damn rules.

^Couldn't have said it better.
Sometimes they just can't handle high school because of some PERSONAL problems.

EXAMPLES: family drug use, family deaths, bad living arrangements, illness in the family, friend drug use, friend deaths, etc, etc.

They're not all stupid. Some are, yes, but don't be so f*cking quick to judge them that they're all stupid just because they dropped out.

There are things to help you relieve you of those pressures. Friend's drug use, send him to some sort of group. Friend's death, counsler. Bad living arrangements, find better. Illness of the family, most probable there is another family member willing to take care of the person.

^Yeah, that's true, they can go to rehab and other groups and counselors, BUT.. it's still weighing heavy on their mind and they can't concentrate, so they think "why bother effing around here if I can't concentrate" and they make the choice to drop out.

Doesn't make them stupid.

uGhZ... drug addictions can fudge them up,they cant think straight, and maybe their drug addictions are too pwerful to overcome with the **** they also gotta put up with in school?

family problems....a death in a family or a terminal illness can traumatize a person for a long time, and the drama could just be too overwhelming to concentrate on anything but the drama?

yea i know people who dropped out of high school and got there GED , and they are x1000 smarter than ur ignorant narrow minded ass. just stfu and go flame ur mom or something

Obviously they are smarter than my narrow ass. My ass doesnt have a brain. I dont know about you. Again, you attacking me in the end. Okay, who goes INTO drug addictions. People who dont really care. People who are too stupid to live. Terminal illness? SOmeone in my school has to be in a wheelchair 24/7. She has a disfigured body. I dont even understand how her hand can hold a pencil. But she does it. Can you get more ill than that to not be able to pass HS if you have the chance to?

^Exactly. It's overwhelming when you lose a loved one, and you almost want to die yourself. All of that is weighing heavy on you, you feel pressured to do better than usual. You might actually snap from all the pressure. Seriously. So they figure they should just get one of the pressures/stressers out of the way, and that is where they choose to drop out.

Ok... according to your statement... all dropouts are intellectually stupid... which usually is hardly ever the case... There are other ways of earning diplomas which are equivalent to a high school diploma... ie the GED...

I have two older brothers, both of which who didn't graduate high school. They're so effing far from being "stupid" or "dumb" or whatever you were calling HS dropouts. They're made some mistakes, hung out with the wrong crowd, etc. My oldest brother would go out, party, have fun, skip classes etc... Basically he was distracted away from school. He was ONE effing credit away from graduating... but yeh... they didn't let him graduate... but things happened, and he wasn't even able to go back to school... but he eventuallt got a GED, so yeh... equivalent to a HS diploma... anywho, he's far from being stupid for someone who didn't graduate HS...

Same thing with my other brother, except they kicked him out of HS and sent him to a community high school... he eventually got his GED too...

Both of them have made many mistakes... both had kids by the time they were 18... both hung out with the wrong crowd, etc... people make mistakes... I understand this... that's why I'm not quick to judge people for the mistakes they've made or anything

Intelligence wise, they're pretty smart... they may not make the best decisions, they do what they wanna do at the moment, but they're ok guys.

That's where i'll stop, because I think I've actually gotten off topic, or I'm going there. Bottom line is, not everyone who drops out of HS or doesn't pass it is dumb... some just don't care... some just have made decisions that they can't go back on now and they struggle to get their act together again.... some never can though... but who are we to judge really? Let them be who they are... so what if someone doesn't pass HS or drops out... it's their own choice, they'll deal with it later in life when it bites them in the a$$... but we have no right to judge what kind of person they are

^Not exactly. THEY'RE F*CKING KIDS. WE ARE NAIVE! WE DON'T THINK 100% OF THE TIME.
That's not stupid, that's just not using your head, so it does NOT make them stupid.

Um, not using your head is pretty stupid. If you take action without thinking about the consequences, pretty dumb. Especially when you are a teenager and you have unsafe sex.

having sex is just... well, you're naiive... you think you wont get pregnant... or you just straight out don't think about the consequences... then when you realize you may be pregnant.. you're scared as helll and regret ever having unprotected sex... but there's no turning back just because you were naiive...

i don't find someone who has unprotected sex stupid... i find them to just be naiive... but they're kids, ya know?

if they're stupid, then why not call everyone stupid? we all make mistakes from time to time... we sometimes may not think about the consequences

My parents dropped never made it pass middle school and they are NOT STUPID stubborn.gif ...my grandpa didn't have enough money to pay for my mom's education so she had to drop out and help him with the factory. My dad's parent ALSO didn't have enough money to support him he had to drop out and help his dad at the bakery. They may be stupid in school stuff, but they have skills. Like my dad, he knows how to make moon cakes, cakes, cookies, etc. And my mom knows how to weave and make towels. So don't go calling High shcool drop outs stupid.

Hey, you know what else happens?
This could happen here in my state.

Someone could drop out because they have to go back and tend the farm, because their father passed away. That happens, and it has happened here before. And don't effing scoff at that, it DOES happen. I live in North Dakota, and there are a lot of farms.

Someone could try and make their way through school, and when they get to high school, someone passes away and they have to go back and tend the farm, because that is INCOME which they need.

Does that make them stupid?
No, that makes them a good person.. going back to tend the farm.

This is a real situation, don't say it's not, because I've seen it happen.

rofl... you're ignorant, ya know that??

I agree with her. You're the arrogant fool. Stereotyping people as stupid just because they didn't graduate high school is absurd.

Sure, I'll leave in one or two excpetions. Like if their mom has cancer and you are her only family. Friend problems. How exactly will your friend have you drop out. Back up some statements please.

I think that your problem, th5418, is that you think much too highly of yourself and the work that you do. Highschool isn't something that comes naturally to some people, like doing work and making friends. Sometimes people have too much pressure put on to them and can't handle it.

Not everyone is as wonderful and perfect as you, and not everyone can finish high school.

Sometimes people have to drop out and get a job to support their families, or maybe they have something more important (in their opinion) than school. Like taking time off to do something more. Like inventing something...

And it's not like these people don't want to finish high school, a lot of them wait until they're adults and financially able to start going to high school again, then they graduate.

If you're a son, you'll need to go back and help the mother.

There is a lack of debate on this topic. It's more like a rumble lead by a very narrow minded kid who only wants to win and not hear anyone else's opinion.

The more you think about this the more angrier you get. You can't focus in school and you start failing. At this piont your friend is still ignoring you. You are very frustrated and start drinking. Soon enough you get addicted to the alcohol and drink it everyday. The daily drinks are giving you a harder time concentration wtih school work. Not to mention the cost of the drinks are shrinking the your bank account balance. A couple months pass...you are broke and you're classes are F- ...now you don't even have enough money to buy lunch. Your parents can't help at all because they have to pay the insurance, car, mortage, etc. What are you gonna do? Drop Out.

QUOTE(LilPiggi3 @ Aug 15 2004, 5:31 PM)
do you know how hard it is to make new friends...if someone is like me...a shy person who is quiet as a mouse around people she don't know...how the heck do you expect someone like that to make friends?

Maybe you should toughen up a bit. Try to get more outgoing?

Why are loners loners?

Because they are not out going enough. Or they refuse to be out going. If the loners would hang out with the other loners. They wouldn't be loners.

Definition of 'debate' via www.dictionary.com

but anyways... I can see where th5418 is coming from on some of his 'arguements'...

I too think that becoming pregnant at a young age is also 'stupid' (note that I said I think)... but then again, they end up with the consequences of what they did... I've taken note of how many people are saying that if you get pregnant at a young age, they are naive because they weren't thinking... I think that if you don't think before you act, it's stupid.. and yes I know that we're all human and that we all make mistakes... but I know that most of my mistakes were because I wasn't thinking which was pretty stupid of me... let's take for example someone cheating on you... you find out... and you ask your boyfriend/girlfriend why they did what they did... and they reply with.. "I don't know... I wasn't thinking"... wouldn't you think that that was a stupid reason to why they did what they did??

Not everything is this f*cking easy.
Maybe they're not "accepted" at school by any group, and no one wants to befriend them.

It not easy to be out going...because not everyone can open their mouth and say 'hi'. And sometimes it's hard for someone who is used to be independent and soft to 'toughen' up

Exactly.
Some people are just BORN shy and are lucky enough to have the friends that they have.. and once they lose/get rid of them, it's pretty damned hard for them to get more.

It's hard to overcome shyness.
Seriously, it is.
Not everyone can be out-going.
And a lot of out-going people are annoying.

When did we ever say that? We simply stated that some people turn to that. Did we ever say all?

Once again, your sarcasm is not cute.
Stop making fun of situations that actually happen.
That's immature.

^I don't think so. There are many other reasons.

IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU LIVE.

It's obvious he/she doesn't have anything else to say nor finds something to pick a fight with us about.
