http://www2.foxsearchlight.com/thirteen/ <<basic info, has some clips
http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox_searchlight/thirteen/ <<trailer
http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/1124997-thirteen/ <<reviews

have any of you seen this movie? basically, it's about good girl meets bad girl good turn into sex-crazed whore who does drugs (can't forget the eating disorder thrown in there too), at the age of *GASP* thirteen.

i have not seen it, and after reading the reveiws, quotes, and other peoples reactions. it is not something i want to see.

do we need to have another movie streotyping todays youth? we don't.

so, did anyone here seen/heard of the movie, if so what did you think about it?

edit// sorry, wrong fourm blush.gif

I thought it was a pretty good movie... It hits on alot of sensitive subjects that alot of thirteen year olds go through. Stuff like peer pressure, fitting in, depression, experimentation, drugs, sex, and all the other good stuff. The acting in the movie was great, and the ending made me smile. If you went through some bad stuff in life, then you can relate more to this movie then a person who hadnt gone through the hard stuff. The movie isnt one of those "family" movies, but its made for the older teen audience and maybe some parents as well. Hope this helps you out, and i do recomend you see it.

It was powerful and a conversation starter which makes a good movie. Now as for the fact that it might seem a little chliche', what can you honestly expect? It was written by a thirteen year old so I don't think it can be stereotypical because she wrote it about her experiences. But overall it was a nice film.

Crazy movie. I didn't expect the things that I was gonna see. I mean... When I was at the age of 13, I didn't act like them. I guess it's caused by the media and the change of the world that's going SO WAY FAST! Crazy shitzsu...

i still think it was a bit stereotypical because wehn i read other peoples reactions on another forum, they made it look like everyone is like that. so people suggest to watch it with your parents, but really? that would scare the **** out of my parents.

it's no surprise that people do that.

edit// did this movie ever coem out in theatres? i dont remember

After watchin the movie I was in complete awe. It's very intense and consists of things people don't usually talk about. Sure not every 13 yr old girl is like the girls in the movie but there are some out there that are like Evie and (Insert Name of Blonde Chick Here). Not really my type of movie but it's definately worth seeing.

oh and I definately agree with what eboarder2020 said.

yea i saw it. i thought it was a really good potrayal of wat peer presure can do to you. of course as people have already said not every 13 year old goes through something like that. but it does happen. i did not think it was stereotypical. i thought the acting was amazing and the story was well put. this movie is one in paticular shows wat can happen when you do drugs, steal, lie. and it also shows the importance of having a godd stable family. i liked it. and would watch it again.

it's not a surprise. it only is one if someone has not known a teen or been one. there doesnt have to be a movie reinforcing it

I read about the movie online on imdb.com and wow I can't believe some kids are actually like that (since the one girl co-wrote the script basing it on herself) like that. She does drugs, and sex (they cut out a love scene between the 2 girls) and changes herself just to look cool in middle school. This movie would be more believable if she was in High School.

Wow, this movie was just on. Scared me. @.@ I didn't get to watch the whole thing, though. (It's not the best movie to watch with your brother?) So I have to wait until Sunday to see the whole thing.

/edit (after reading all the posts, heh.) I think the point isn't to stereotype thirteen year old girls (who thinks of a thirteen year old girl and then has the image of a drug/sex addict appear in their mind...?) but to show what can happen to basically good people when they fall in the wrong crowd of people.

//(watched trailor) that girl will have sex with anything that has a penis. (THE MOM'S BOYFRIEND!?)

i saw the movie aiight...heh i would say it was a good movie even tho there was too much drugy in that movie... but i hope those teenagers who are like in their life saw this and learned the bad things of wat they did... i saw it in dvd with my sister and her friends... the story was like this girl who is thirteen became popular... i think she was hanging out with this punk rock group... but in the ending was kinda dope.... it was a reallie dope ending ever.... but still a good story

i saw the movie and i have to say, it's very dramatic. i dont think it's stereotyping teenage girls, but more showing the public what some teen girls are going through (popularity, drugs, sex, self-mutilation, depression, backstabbing). the ending was weird, and i still dont get it.. but yeah, great movie. you should see it.

I thought this movie was actually really well done. Evan Rachel Wood did such an amazing job with her character it blew me away. I actually bought the movie because I liked it so much, but it does leave you feeling a little depressed after watching it. But I really liked it. _smile.gif

i watched that movie, and i thought it was amazing. some parts of it were really shocking, but overall, it was portrayed really well. and this is a true story too. the girl who was the "bad girl" in real life played the "good girl" who gave in to peer pressure.

Well, I saw the movie twice. It was ok, but disturbing and shows how a teenage life can be from going good to bad just because of keeping your reputation up. The beggining and ending was messed up...although they only wrote the script in 6 days. The movie made me wanna cry.gif but it also made me feel huh.gif

i dont think it stereotypes 13 year olds because its a true story. i read about the movie somewhere and one of the girls in the movie (she's on the cover of the movie..not the main girl) wrote this and its about her

QUOTE(x__forever @ Aug 28 2004, 12:34 AM)
i watched that movie, and i thought it was amazing.  some parts of it were really shocking, but overall, it was portrayed really well.  and this is a true story too.  the girl who was the "bad girl" in real life played the "good girl" who gave in to peer pressure.
*

QUOTE(miss barnes @ Feb 21 2005, 2:10 PM)
i dont think it stereotypes 13 year olds because its a true story. i read about the movie somewhere and one of the girls in the movie (she's on the cover of the movie..not the main girl) wrote this and its about her
*

QUOTE(D1SMANTLED @ Feb 21 2005, 3:35 PM)
yeah, the girl who plays the bad girl. she wrote the story about her own life.

i forgot her name in the movie, but i know her real name is nikki reed. I think shes pretty. _smile.gif
*

oh my goodness people, this isn't a true story, it's based on a true story so most of it is probably made up, and it was co-written by the 13 year old...she didn't write the whole thing

Shoulda looked on the legs and shoulder. shifty.gif Since then I've straightened up. No sense in hurting myself when so many people can do it for me.

I don't think this is a movie for a 13 year old to watch.

It films a life of a 13 year old from the worst case scenario. This isn't a good thing for 13 year olds to see. At that age you're growing and being influence easily. This movie opens up a lot of issue I wouldn't want my 13 year old to think about.

Sex at 13? That's wrong no matter how you put it.

I did think the actors and actresses were quite good though. =)

Actually I saw thirteen. its an incredibly good movie. It was a whirlwind, but at the same time, I know lots of girls who were going thru things like that. It really gives a lot of insight into what some people are going thru. Its something I think all teenage girls should watch. It makes quite an impact.

Oh and about teh merry go round? She had done all of these crazy adult thing. She basically went frmo a normal innocent girl to a very naughty one. She tried to grow up too quick. So that was kinda likea freedom. Like going back and becoming a child again. I love that movie.

It was made in 1995 and was shown at the Sundance Festival.
