The beliefs of reincarnation have been passed down generation to generation, this issue has been aloft to me when my bud and i were talking about it one tuesday afternoon. Is it possible for someone to die, and then be born again into the form of a type of animal? foresay, a duck, could my grandma be a duck across the pond and i may not even know it? so much questions i have, i just need some answers ><.

Eh I'm on and off on reincarnation. I used to believe in it a lot...there have been tons of stories where little kids who don't watch TV and are practically virgins to the world...can explain how they died in a past life. I like to believe it's neat. Meh I'll type more on this later. pinch.gif

Okay, if reincarnation does not exist, why is it that young children who don't know any better tell their parents specifically how they died? For example, a young boy who, as I mentioned in my previous post, is practically a virgin to the world. The only shows he watches are kid shows, such as "Sesame Street," "Barney," etc. Then he starts drawing pictures of a war scene. His mother notices and asks him why he's drawing them. He simply answers, saying that that is how he died. She then took him to a psychiatrist who hypnotized him and he started describing this battle scene from the civil war. They wrote down all his specific details - details as if only a person who was there would know. They went to check up on his facts, and it turned out he had described a battle scene from the civil war, even down to who he supposedly was in his past life. Now, how could this happen? What would his parents get out of feeding this to a young child? It makes you think...

of course reincarnation is real..

i very strongly believe it..

the way the Buddha originally taught it was that life is suffering. The only way to escape the eternal cycle of suffering is to rid yourself of all wanting. Such as money, women/men, good clothes, etc. all material things. so when this happens your soul would be released from the cycle and you would become a Buddha..

So yea..went spiritual fo a moment dere..i think if u pay attention to ur dreams and study dem u could get sum clues to ur past life. u could be reborn as almost anything..potato, horse, goat, duck, butterfly, etc.

iuno a whole lot but yea..i thnk mai parents would knoe more

Well, part of me believes that when you die and your mission on earth is not over yet, you will get reincarnated to an animal and live on earth again until you finish your mission. And so on...

i dont believe in reincarnation. im not against believing in reincarnation because its what my relatives believe in it, but its not something ive felt deep and in agreement about. its something thats more of an interesting theory of what happens to spirits to me, but not really a belief.

reincarnation.. well, it's your choice to choose to believe in it.. that's why we're given the ability to reason.....
i'd like to believe that there's something greater out there.. and that we are rewarded by "it" for the good deeds we've done in one life.. so i'm giving a partial yes here because the other part of me chooses to stick to what i was taught to believe: heaven and hell (yes, i am a Catholic). and my other part (the scientific and logical part) says that when you die, there's nothing.
but just thinking about it.. reincarnation is a part of a bigger thing: Hinduism. they believe that until you fulfill all your duties and achieve true enlightenment, then will the cycle end. that's kind of scary because what if you don't fulfill anything? what if you never become enlightened? then what..? do you remain in earth, in this "mortal coil"?

i have many theories about this..

we can't really tell if it's real or not because you have to experience it... and when you do.. you're dead and you can't really tell anyone. soooo... yea.. and.... have you ever thought that if you were reincarnated or whatever, you'd say something such as "i would probably remember who i was " when you're reincarnated. y'know? .. but i said that to myself to... BUT.. WE were probably reincarnated from a past life but we can't remember it. so it'd be living lives over and over and over but not remembering....

soo... that's a "yes" for me

lol i remember this one time when i like ... 6 years old, i asked my dad "dad... have you ever died?" lol... he said no.... then i said "well .. how does it feel like?" lol...

i believe in reincarnation. but, its hard to prove that it exists because when you enter your next life, you forget everythign about your previous life. like kathleen said, it is like proving that God exists. you can't prove that, you just believe that.

Yes i believe in reincarnation, but like xtiffysweetzx said, i only believe it to a certain extent. Believing in reincarnation helps me make the choices that i think are good. Because i belive in the 'if you do good things this lifetime, next lifetime you'll reincarnate into something better' part, i try my best to always make good choices, so i can live a safe life and reincarnate into something else better the next life.

Yes I do believe in it. Mostly because I want to believe in it...For me, spending your after-life in heaven or hell is just plain boring. Hell, painful and boring. Heaven, just boring. How could you possibly occupy all that time? This seems like a stupid argument, but I do believe that. Maybe time doesn't, you know, exist in heaven or hell, but I can't imagine spending any...moments in there. Reincarnation is so much more...exciting. The idea of reincarnation makes me much happier than the idea of spending eternity in just one place.

I think it's pretty cool, but I'm iffy on it. But if you believe in spirits and them searching for a body to take as its own, yeah, it's possible. A spirit can't live in a dead guy, can it?

Hmm this is a topic that could go on forever, because really, nobody can say what really happens after you've died. Nobodies has come back to tell us. There are people who believe they did, but if that person can say they did it, then what about everbody else? how come other people don't remember? You may say, "well that's because they haven't gone through reincarnetion." In one of my classes we are studying reincarnation and religions that believe that such as buddhism. They believe that every person has been reincarnated before.

I don't remember being reincarneted, and I really don't know but just a little about it, but as far as what I believe, I believe in God biggrin.gif

Studying religion in High School doesn't amount to understanding what that religion is really about because many important aspects of it can be left out or perhaps censored.

One major explanation as to WHY there are a few who happen to remember their past lives while many others do not is a process by which the dead's memories are erased. This process varies by culture.

mellow.gif mellow.gif mellow.gif Listen up people, reincarnation does NOT mean that you don't die, infact, you HAVE TO die, horribly or peacefully, whatever the case may be. The point is, after dying there is an "after death" experience where the soul is reborn into a newborn... etc.

In Hinduism, we believe that every person has nine lives...just like a cat. I don't know too much about it, but yes, you can be born as another animal. And my theory is: It's so rare that a human is born twice as a homo sapien, that they remember their past life. That's why people can rarely rememer their before lives.

I don't believe in reincarnation, but if I learned more and understood more about the subject, then I might change my mind. My parents basically said that if we do good things in this life we will be reincarnated into something wonderful, or something like that.

It's so hard for me to say because i am athiest. So to a point i do because i want to believe in the whole "heaven and hell" concept yet somehow can't. With that being said i think i might be a possiblity but i am kind of on the fence about this topic.

I believe that we all had a past life. And then we die and are reborn. When we are reborn; we do not remember anything that happened in the past life and we become completely different people.
I always imagine. .
You know how some people say "I dont want to forget this life. ."
Imagine you said that in your past life. That always made me think.

I've don't have a concrete opinion about the after-life, non-existance, hell, heaven, or reincarnation in this case; very simply, because I find no sort of evidence, knowing, or influence as to what to believe. Because, really, until we can find someone to reincarnate someone from the dead, or discover an actual realm of heaven, etc.; we can't really know for sure. But sure. I can agree reincarnation is a possibility. Maybe people will be reincarted into new people, we just haven't gone through enough time to see those people back on Earth yet.

I believe in the transmigration of souls (at least in a sense).... which is a type of reincarnation. I think the soul in immortal and eternal. Once the body that houses it perishes the soul leaves the world of everyday existence, the physical world of change and decay, and goes to dwell in "the real world" of eternal and unchangable. When the soul becomes rembodied, it forgets the truth it had when it was in communion with the Forms. Why do i believe this, because it explains two things for me.

Why we seem to have a concept of what beauty is, justice, equality, etc. through only an imperfect and confused conception. We cannot define these things. Example....We can say a sunset is beautiful, but we cannot define beauty or say what makes up beauty. It may be becasue we only have a dim recollection of what "beauty" as a Form was when our soul was not being housed.

Secondly, our dim recollection of the Forms explains why we even pose the question"what is justice?" etc. in the first place, why we even ask ourselves, why we even wonder.

This is directly from Plato's Republic so it is not my opinion or explaination, but i somewhat agree with him.

I'm not really sure if I believe in it or not, but this is something I that always think about.

If a soul is eternal, where does it go once the body no longer exists?

i believe that when you die, your body goes into the ground and that's it. i don't believe in eternal souls or any of that. you die, the end. again, like most of my other beliefs, i just think this is more logical. i've never seen anything to prove there is a soul at all, much less that there's an afterlife for your soul. therefore, it seems apparent to me that after you die, nothing happens. your body just stops working and that's the end of you.

it's sad to think about but, meh.

i don't need the hope of an afterlife to keep me happy and going.

QUOTE(Foolish Heart @ Jul 31 2004, 1:54 AM)
Well, part of me believes that when you die and your mission on earth is not over yet, you will get reincarnated to an animal and live on earth again until you finish your mission. And so on...
*

That is what I have always believed in. When you die, you will be reincarnated until you fufill your mission in life, whatever that may be.

I think it's interesting to think about, but I don't believe in it. I believe that when you die, it's over. You're dead. Yeah, it's sad, but it seems like the most logical thing to believe.

i think that the answer to this question lies in your religion. like i know that hinduism believes in reincarnation and i think some others but i'm not sure. just to make sure you have all the information, it is just your spirit that goes from body to body. so it wouldn't actually be your grandma in the pond, it would just be her spirit. wink.gif personally i don't believe in reincarnation because i believe that whenever you die, you go onto life either in heaven or hell; not another body. but that could just be because i am christian. _unsure.gif

Even though I don't believe in a lot of things, for some reason I truly believe in reincarnation. It's not like they have proof that it exists, it's just something that I have faith in.
