So now that I finally hit college and see the wide variety of people's choices in majors, I'm kindof curious to know what some of you chose (or wish to do) and why?

So, What major are you doing, or you wish to do
and why?

For me I'm doing a double major in Biology and Criminal Justice (But I'm still contemplating between this and Graphic design)

I think you should choose "not being a bitch and knowing when to shut the f*ck up." Yeah I think that would help you more in the long run. Also you could educate beak.

It's just getting annoying. The trolling in general.

But what is really annoying more so then what he's saying is the fact that no one is doing anything about it.

I kinda need help. I'm applying to colleges and I can't ask help from my parents cause they don't know a thing. I'm on the site ApplyTexas.org. Thats the site you go to send your applications. I want to be in pre-med, but UT AUSTIN or UTSA neither has a Pre-Med major, you have to go to a Pre-Med school to apply to. which I don't understand because it says on the pre-med school sites that you must have a bachelors degree. but how can i get that if i cant even choose my major. i understand that you can have any major such as; chemistry or biology to enter the pre-med school.. but im kinda confused. care to help anyone? :]

LOL Shannon just be either a bio or chem major. They have the same freaking prereqs anyways that will prepare you for med school. Hell, you can pretty much be any major you want during your undergrad. It's the MCATs score that matters really...

In my opinion go into Biology, A lot of kids in my class who are doing pre-med are doing Bio and my parents were Bio majors (they are Doctors)
Plus when you start college you can talk to an Adviser about it.

ideally I'd like to get into something like Georgia Tech but In all honesty I'll probably end up in ole miss because it's like $5500 or $27000 to get in and I don't see myself getting a free ride through an out of state college anytime soon

my parents never went to college so they don't really know anything, I'm having to do all the research on my own and shit sucks

Don't you have a school counselor to help you with that kind of stuff?

Granted mine was shit and left me flat on my ass not knowing what to do half the time.

You don't have to be a science major to go pre-med. Some institutions may actually favor you if you're not one. I know for a fact that ucsf would favor you if you're not one. But like pkbabe said, your MCAT scores mostly determine whether you'll get in or not.

Yeah I bet that is frustrating, But at the same time My parents kindof pushed me more to do medical school and Biochemistry. So I have to go change my major :p

Yeah I kindof just said in my own opinion and knowing my parents did that.
But in a way I always thought it was smiled upon to do Bio or Chem Major?

the councilors at my school only cared about the top 10% of the class, and since I was bottom 10% they figured I would be too busy smoking crack to go to collage. and they were right.

Hating it because the courses offered are not really what I'm after.

A lot of it was working with cameras, we documented each other's fingerprints, one time we watched a few popular forensics dramas (csi, etc.) and had to point out all the times they did something unrealistic or against protocol. We did a mockup t
rial where we had to present the evidence, and we had a few mockup crime scenes (one murder, one breaking and entering), and we had to do an interrogation on one of the classmates.

prerequisites were psychology and biology

major in what you want to major in. pre-med is just a program of classes required by most med schools. people say to major in something sciency because it'll be easier since your required classes will overlap with a lot of your pre-med classes.

i'm a neuroscience major. it's ok. i don't love it, i don't hate it. i hated pre-med though. f*ck physics and biology and calculus and MCATs.
