I had my first glass of wine today. It smelled like apple juice and tasted like vinegar. Aka. Crap. It was horrible. Why do people like that stuff?

I feel the same way you do about red wine. I rarely drink because I hate the taste of straight alcohol, and will only have a little bit of even girly, mixed drinks. But Blue Moon is a Belgian-style beer and the only beer I don't hate.

Acquire a taste? You mean you have to keep drinking it until you like it? Yeah; it can take a while to grow on you and to find what you like. I only drank for the first time when I was 18 at my friend's 21st birthday party, but those were mixed drinks of fruity stuff and vodka. A friend had me try Bacardi rum and it was like nasty, bitter Sprite; never again. There's bound to be something you like, but I'm not going to be the one to get you started on drinking this early. Wait until you're older before you get into it. |

Yeah...wine takes awhile to get used to and as you age I find your tastes adjust. I used to hate wine, and now I love it.

If it takes so much time and effort to find a wine you like, why not just drink a non alcoholic drink? Or do people just drink for the light headed feeling.

^ That is the one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen.
I don't think I necessarily had to acquire a taste for wine, it's just that I can't toss it back and expect it to taste good. There's a reason you see people take a sip, then hold it in their mouths for a few seconds before swallowing. It's like dark chocolate for me, I only like it if I eat it a certain way. xD |

A Pale Ale is a malty beer. It originated in England if I'm correct. It also tends to be rather bitter, but tastes rather awesome. IPA is an acronym for India Pale Ale, it's imo even more bitter than the regular Pale Ale. Unlike Pale Ales, it's got a hoppy flavor as opposed to the malty flavor. More awesome, imo.

Stone is a microbrewery from California. It's not the same as European beers I'm sure, but I've come to appreciate that the thing America has over Europe when it comes to beer is the microbrewery. So much of what's in Europe is standard and has been for so long (why change what's awesome?), so America had to find it's own niche to get into and that seems to be the Microbrewery. They're so experimental because they're not huge and they have a lot less to lose / a lot less reputation to maintain.
Anyway, if I ever end up in England I'll see what's going on. |

No, but I don't need to get wasted to know that I'll probably get Asian glow. I purposely choose not to attend many parties or to get drunk when I'm at college. I've still made several great friends and had way more fun than I could have at a party, where most people are just looking to hook up and can't hold a half-decent conversation. Everyone has their own lifestyle choices, so opting to stay sober (and save my liver :p) is mine. |

I don't think anyone can have fun at a party with that kind of mentality =/ Yeah, really. My older cousin, who's a college senior, told me that you don't go to a party/bar/club to make friends with whom you can hang out and have good conversation, and so far I've found that to be true. Maybe I'm a square for not enjoying myself at parties, but I just don't like being around people who are binge-drinking, especially when they won't remember my name if I ever see them again. I'd rather meet people around campus, whether in the dining halls, library, or just chilling out between classes. |

Those are the people you want to party with then. Two ways to party: with people you know and with people you don't know. Truth. I went to a couple of house parties with my friends from a school club and had way more fun at those than at the one house party I went to where they charged at the door and everything was just nasty. |

KEYSTONE BAHAHAHAHAHAAA
Keystone, Keystone light and Natty Ice are like every frats staple beer at my college... sooo classy. I haven't been to a frat/random house party in like two years because everyone's a tool and I just can't stand drunk, obnoxious people. I don't go to parties anymore (except when my boyfriend and his roommates or other rugby guys have them) since I'm 21 and my friends/almost everyone is underage at the parties... I prefer to go to the bars especially when we win free happy hour parties all the time. I don't normally drink beer, but this restaurant in town called Iron Hill Brewery makes all of their own and they have a raspberry wheat beer that is sooo good. They also have Crane Lake White Zinfandel, which is my alllllll time favorite wine. |

Trader Joe's has two buck chucks (well actually now it's $2.99) It's the cheapest bottle of wine I've ever bought, but it was actually pretty good. They have all kinds but I tried White Zinfandel of course.
Has anyone ever had that Layer Cake wine? I kind of want to try it. |

Too bad I don't live closer to NY, I'd show you that you don't have to get shitfaced to have fun, Cristy. A lot of my friends that I go out with just have a few drinks and call it a night. I'd love for you to take me out, but I've posted multiple times that I've been to house parties with friends, drank a little, and had plenty of fun. Drinking is fine in moderation; I just happen to drink in greater moderation than many of my peers do. Tell me if you're ever in the area and we can try to hang out! :) |

how much do you really drink then? On average, every few months. I drink very little at parties unless someone can mix me something good where I can hardly taste the alcohol. I don't even like malted/"girly" drinks like Smirnoff Ice. I've met plenty of people at parties that I am now really good friends with/can have a decent conversation with. It's just general advice my cousin gave me. I met two of my good friends at my first house party way back in September, but that's largely because they were both sober and we had a good conversation that night. |

Give me a beer count Um, like half a bottle? lolol. As I said, Blue Moon is the only beer I've ever had that I actually like. every few months isn't greater moderation than your peers. if it were every day...well... Erm, I don't know if I'm misunderstanding you, but aren't my peers drinking in less moderation than I do if they're doing it every weekend v. just every few months? |

I was watching 1000 ways to die and this alcoholic put alcohol up his anus. He got instantly hammered, because it went straight into his bloodstream bypassing his liver and his drunk level whatever it's called was over 5 and he died.

Erm, I don't know if I'm misunderstanding you, but aren't my peers drinking in less moderation than I do if they're doing it every weekend v. just every few months? Let's just say over a three month span if you drink just once every month then over the three months you would have drank only three times. But your friends, who drink every weekend, would have drank at least 12 times. So by only drinking every few months, you are drinking far less than they are. |

Yes, unless I've made a grave mistake in what "greater moderation" actually means, in which case I will feel very silly. I meant exactly what you said, that I drink a lot less than they do. D: |

There are so many different kinds of wine that you can't possibly know whether or not you like it from one glass. The ones in my refrigerator right now aren't exactly fine wines, but they're tasty. One tastes like grape juice, and the other tastes like cherries.
QUOTE(Matsumoto) Keystone, Keystone light and Natty Ice are like every frats staple beer at my college... sooo classy. That sounds about right. I haven't been to a frat party in two years because they're the worst. I go to house parties because I like to drink for free, but mostly just to hipster parties, as PBR is a lot more drinkable than Natty or Keystone and they tend to be full of more tolerable obnoxious drunks. I'm still not 21, so while I've been functioning like I am for the last two years in terms of going to bars, I can't always get into all bars and that's a pain because everyone I hang out with is 21. But at least I'll be legal for my last year of college. Also, I had no idea there was non-light Keystone for the longest time. I've never seen anyone drink it. |

I wouldn't drink it on my own, but it's better than comparable beers. It might just be by association, though. If they're drinking Natty or Keystone, it's not where I want to be. Miller or Bud Light is questionable, but can be ok. Generally if they have PBR or maybe Miller Highlife (or something better) I'm more likely to have a good time. I can't drink Highlife anymore...can't remember what I even associate it with, but something bad.
