so i wanna join this service club called "Interact". it's one of those rotary clubs. it's all guys, so you could say its our high school fraternity. i can't join till i'm a sophomore, but i'm aware that i need to do some type of talent in front of the whole club to deliberate if i should be in the club or not. the interview/talent thing is in a room, and the club that i wanna join has this type of motto thing. they have mist machines and they wear sunglasses and hats to hide their facial expressions when they have to judge on people that want to join. oh, and even if i get accepted, i have to do this type of "initiation" called "induction day". they basically grab buckets of paint and they slap all the blue and yellow paint on you and you have to wear it the whole day. (our colors) the point is, the questions they ask at the interviews are like any other questions "why do you wanna join?". i'd probably say because i love their jersey shirts and that i just wanna help people out. what would you say?

what type of talent should i do? i can't tell them graphic designing because that's probably plain boring to them. i could always get into a lady gaga costume and dance to bad romance... and btw, i only know 1 person in that club, haha. all my friends want to join Key.

We had Interact at my highschool, and it was NOTHING like how you're describing it. Then again, we had fewer useless people at my school.

I joined it for one year, but we had a meeting where this lady came in to talk about AIDS in Africa. I had to excuse myself from that meeting cause I couldn't stop laughing at the pictures of the diseased kids on the projector.

I never went back after that day.

Dude I was just talking to Tina about this last night.. I had no idea what key club was.

My high school didn't have anything like this. o.o Neither did any high school in the area.

Sidenote, that sounds a bit like hazing.

Out of curiosity, what are your reasons for wanting to join this organization? Does it help resume/college ap build? Are you looking for more socialization?

The reason why I want to join is because I like their shirt jerseys and that it does look good on my Resume. there are more popular clubs that would look good on my resume such as Key, but key is not my cup of tea. the whole club is based on leadership, socialization, and selflessness for others. ironic part is that the club only does like 5 activities the whole school year, but they meet up every week. i'll upload a pic later showing the club's jersey.

just had a chat with one of the club members, and he says i should keep the whole homosexuality profile to a down low since they don't seem very opening, but other than that he said that i have a high chance of making in the fraternity.

It's sad how the "don't ask, don't tell" mentality exists in high school.

Beenly, I think you should be fine even if you have to reveal your orientation, just after you've established footing in the club and can have them see you aren't a flamboyant bi.

so i've been doing research on fraternities and high school service clubs and this is what i have synthesized.

The club that I want to get into = LIKE A SIGMA CHI HIGH SCHOOL VERSION

and i need to impress them. i need to lose like 20 pounds so i don't even look that obesed and i need to be more active in school. that's all it takes. oh and i probably need to buy more ralph lauren and lacoste stuff with some boat shoes so i gotta work extra hard this summer. do any of you know a company job that hires 15 year olds? LOL

edit:
oh yeah and did i mention that this service club likes to party a lot. i'm not the party type person but it's somewhat mandatory to be at least a couple of parties.

Wow, seriously Beenly? You'd stoop that low just to join a club like that? f*cking ridiculous.

Interacts here don't do that, it's the same as Key Club and LEO. The main goals of all three of those clubs are basically the same: promote leadership through serving. You got some f*cked up Interact there.

LOL ok hold on, hold on lemme get this right:

So you wanna join a school "fraternity" where they wanna embarrass you, disguise your homosexuality, haze you, paint you, JUDGE you, make you lose weight, make you wear certain clothes, make you wear lacoste polos and boat shoes? wtf, is basically a dumb popularity club, sounds like a reality TV show, doesn't even do "community service" even though "you wanna help people", parties 24/7, prob has too much drama...

...bc you like their dumb plain blue and gold shirt jerseys.

Ok. You do that.

Btw Interact doesn't do shiz for your resume, unless you're leadership or something.

I think it's good for him. He's overweight and annoying as hell. Super flamboyant, needs to change. People can tell he's gay without him going around trying to project his homosexuality. He's a 15 year old kid who needs to stops being such a f****t. Boat shoes / polos are some of the lame shit he probably already wears, he just chooses the bright pink boat shoes and the polo with a rainbow on it. There's so much stupid shit that he does that if anyone were to just sit and think they'd realize how asinine it is to be doing shit like that.

Yeah i was doing research on Interact and all the other service clubs had boys and girls in it and it was way different. and i'm going low because its opinions from others that breaks me down. i'm sure lots of people prefer me to be a more "normal" person.

yeah it is a popularity club. but at least they're active in sports and stuff, and they help out more with the sorority club in our school cuz the sorority gots more service plans. i could still be in my fraternity and do help other minor clubs like photography or whatever.

and yes that is my goal. by the time i'm in my junior/senior year, me and my bros are gonna take over interact. i probably wanna be VP or secretary.

I'm sorry, but if you want to join a club where all they're gonna do is judge other people and all you wanna do is to be popular and put the name INTERACT on your resume, then you REALLY REALLY have your priorities in the wrong order. I dunno why in the world you chose the crappiest club on your campus. Oh wait, you wanna be hazed and be popular...sorry, my bad.

Seriously, tell me, what do you want to get/what do you think you're going to get out of joining Interact?

Interact at my hs was not a popularity club. We had community service events every week, the leadership consisted of the smartest individuals on campus (the people who went to Berkeley, Stanford), required a 3.5 GPA, and was a HONOR. You stayed in Interact only if you could meet the community service hours, meetings, and GPA requirements...not if you wore fugly polos and boat shoes.

LAWL good luck...not. thumbsup.gif

P.S. Forreal tho, I wouldn't have typed this all if I didn't care, but if you're not gonna listen then plz refer to Steven's post.

damn, chill. if i didn't care then i would've ignored your post.

I wanna get into Interact cause it's a service club that i'm not on par with and i'm willing to make that challenge. i'm already in 2 other service club called spectrum and they do a whole shit load of service. the only problem is that spectrum isn't that active in school activities and focus more on outside of school. besides the fact that interact only does a handful of service outside the community, it does a whole bunch inside the school like school sports activities and raising money for the school like fund raising and etc. so basically, it's like a school spirit club in a way. and even if it doesn't look noticable on my resume, at least i'll be proud that i did something i wanted to. i could join key, but they're just not my taste. they do a whole shitload of stuff outside and inside and i already have other clubs and other things to do outside. key will look good on anyone's resume, if that's you probably commit a lot. anyone could get into key easily, which means there's a whole lots of people. i prefer a club that's filled with only 30 members compared to 500 members.

your interact is different from mines. and i'm not saying it's some type of rule to wear certain clothes to maintain your place in a club. there are officers that do kick people out for reasons provided of course. i was saying polos and boat shoes is used as an impression. and I will get into the club when it's rush club week. i'll even post a picture with me and the jersey with a smiling face with a middle finger. haha

I actually am trying to make you think rationally and not just calling you out on stuff. But hey, thanks for proving my point of how ignorant you really are, again.

Ok, so from your post, you're saying how basically...you don't fit in with Interact so you want to be? Because..?

P.S. Your Interact is different from mine...which prob means your Interact sucks. Please, go back and just reread your own posts. I don't even understand how ANYONE would want to join?

But yea, serious, since you don't wanna listen to me then here:

I think Sally gave you a lot of good advice. I was sort of ambivalent about your joining Interact, but now I think you should seriously reconsider your desire to join. I don't understand why the fact that the other clubs you mentioned do a lot of work outside school is such an issue. If anything, joining one of those, or an organization that isn't affiliated with your school at all, could make your resume even better: it would demonstrate that you're a good, well-rounded student, and also a compassionate person outside of school; that you take "community service" more seriously than some of your peers do. Colleges and future employers will admire that about you and want to take you in.

my club interview is tomorrow, wish me luck! thanks guys for helping me built up motivation.

i decided to join the club i wanted to in the first place. why? because this year there is a new sponsor. coincidentally, he's asian. LOL! and i been told that he's been very strict on the members and making them do more service.

i'm going to dance with my poster boards at the interview, lol.

omg so i thought my interview sucked.

all they asked me was why i wanted to join and what language i spoke. i said i wanted to join so i could be more manly and that i spoke laos. luckily, the only asian guy in the club was laos so i had a small conversation infront of the whole club because they demanded it. i can tell he didn't like me. all the girls in the club were like "awhhhhh" though. fml

these were the ppl i did it infront of lol

Oh, I get it. You're the sort of Internet denizen who uses foul-mouthed retorts and "edgy" comments to disguise the fact that he has no personality.

Anyway, who are you? I don't think you were ever on staff.

Dude beenly look at the photo and the shit they made you do, its obviosly a popularity club with no substance that youre sweating your balls off for. Im sure its not the only and best option to polish your resume with. And why the f*ck you getting so defensive over it for? When everybody told you to reconsider your choice you know its actually for your own good. Now you made a fool of yourself again.

.....too late. i went to keys interviews and i knew more people and i felt more comfortable. if i don't get into Interact this year, then hello Key. i'll get my lesson learned.....eventually. and its a popularity club filled with assholes.. that i should've realized.

I really think you should stick with Key Club; it's clearly the better organization for you and just overall. I hope you've already learned from this, because I don't know what else you want to happen for you to understand why you should stay away from Interact. :/

o.o

you go to a weird high school.

i can honestly say that being a part of a volunteer club in high school did nothing to make or break my college acceptances. i guess its a good resume filler, but it's not going to impress anybody or make a difference whether you're in interact or key club or whatever. and the thought of a "fraternity/sorority" in high school is just dumb as shit.

yeah seriously. i was in a rotary club where i literally taught local kids english for a year, no one really cared

lol but back in year 8 i formed a birthday club with a few friends, and we would sing happy birthday to anyone in our year when its their birthday. and i got an award end of the year for being so active (:
