I need some hours so I can have something to put on my college application.

So how does the whole hours thing work? Does it depend on your school? You go to the volunteering place, do some work, then what? Just put whatever amount you did when you fill it out? If so, then how do they know you're not lying?? Or do you need to tell your school?

Thanks.

And just out of curiousity, what kinds of things did you guys volunteer for? _smile.gif

Differents schools look at how many hrs you done and where you done them. They also check with the voluenteer place to see if you actually done those hrs.

I personally done many hrs @ a park, and many others for Venturing crew.

Well here's one place you can go to, try to apply to become a volunteer in your local hospital, food bank, or shelter. That's what I did. (well only the hospital thing... ermm.gif )

they call the place you volunteered at or you give them a certificate from the place you worked at saying you did the hrs.

So the school calls the places for every student that doesn't have some sort of certificate?

So if you volunteer at a place where you know the main person, they could lie for you when the school calls them?

for my school dis is wut we do. dey give u a sheet of paper and wherever u volunteer at u mark how many hours u did and dey sign it. also for my school dey want u to have at pictures to prove that u were dere. volunteer at the library, animal shelter, hospital, jus ask the school. deres some clubs like student council that does volunteer. so maybe its best to join a club.

ur supposed to get a form or something for the people u volunteer for to sign with. if u dont have one..just get a blank sheet of paper or a flier and have the person in charge of the volunteer event to sign and put ur name/#of hours/name of volunteer event/ and maybe their phone # if they want to.

so if you ever need proof you did those hours, you have that sheet of paper!

hmm, at my school, they give you a sheet where you write the place where you volunteer and have it signed... i think... or you could always ask the people you're volunteering for to write something that says how many hours you volunteered for. hmm, i'm volunteering at a hospital, and last year, i tutored. you could do that.

When I had to do community service for NJHS I had a form, when I'd do something I'd put down the hours and whoever I was doing service for had to sign it.

I heard that if you go to those feed the poor places with your church or something and feed them or whatever, that counts too, right? blink.gif

well.. if you're gonna volunteer, don't do it with a grudge...
i chose an art museum cuz i love art! then, just get your supervisor to print out the document with your hours and days and the school should be fine with that (unless the school provides you with an official form).
just do it in a place where you think you'll enjoy doing work for without pay. hehe... the musuem i volunteered at was pretty cool cuz they gave me free admissions all the time and discounts in their stores.
my sister was too lazy to do anything so she "volunteered" by reading to my blind aunt. ^^; then my aunt wrote a letter to the school, stating that she actually helped her out and all that.. iono if that gonna work in your school.. but anyway.. there's a ton of stuff to do out there!
