I havent posted in forever,

I designed a homecoming flyer for my school this year and I would just like some feedback before every student receives one in their hands.

Our Activities director wanted a club type feel for the flyers and something retro but young and hip

so...

date and location look messay compared to the rest. All the words in the box should be behind the pattern

"last day for tickets" font looks out of place. maybe because most of the font about that size are stroked.

looks overdone with too much stuff to me. i don't think that splattery stuff in the back adds anything. the shapes with your date and cost information look randomly slapped on there. i don't think it's necessary they have a rainbow gradient looking thing as a background for those. it's making them not feel like part of the whole poster. but i'm biased becuase i hate rainbow gradient stuff that reminds me of the background of a cheesy powerpoint presentation.

i would be wary of packing a retro design full of overlapped layers with tons of textures and gradients, transparency, ect ect because you have to think what were "retro" designers working with. the printing and layer capability was so much different. but i guess it depends on how much you want it to feel "retro". the font is the only thing bringing any retro feel to this for me at the moment.

i like the retro font and the background, just not the over abundance of textures. i think the colors could work a lot better too. if you just take green as an example you have a nice green for the retro word, but then it's clashing with those green stripes in the rainbow pattern shape, and then you used a different green for the word October. each of those feels like part of something separate. the rainbow things just throw off any change of having a unified color scheme if you ask me.

^presto.
I think it is a little too busy. Just tone down the stripes and dots.
Looks good though. Also looks a little dull. You may want to take the finished product and adjust the lighting a bit.

I second Julia and JC. You're using too many textures. Tone them down. The gradients you used for the prices and last day to buy tickets looks random and doesn't really go with the rest of your design. With a few tweaks here and there, it'll look awesome. wink.gif

It looks great. I like the colors you used. IT matched the theme in which you're going for.

I pretty much agree with everyone else, esp with JC. I don't like how you used so many textures and patterns, and I agree that the "last day for tickets" text and stuff is too small and out of place. Additionally, I think you should make the cube(?) a bit more... cube-ish and noticeable. I also don't like the gradient you used for the little shapes and stuff. Overall, it looks pretty busy to me, however, if you sorta tone down on the patterns, texturess, and colors some, then it could look way better. Otherwise, good job! thumbsup.gif
