I did apply. (: So, can you set it to any phone number? or does it have to be connected to a real phone?

it asks you to choose a number from what's available, based on area/zip code. then from there it'll ask you to link it to an actual phone line, be it landline or mobile.

i like the SMS feature since it links your text to your google acc, but other than that, i don't really have a use for it. i thought it was cool just 'cause you could link all your phone numbers into one phone number.

p.s. maybe this is better @technology forum. you could move if you please.

I'd like it for the web based phone feature. And to not have to give out a personal phone number, if you wanted to use it for an online business.

I just got invited. Its very cool. A phone isnt necessary. It makes me want to dump my phone because, well, it does everything a phone does. Well the first 6 digits were chosen for me and then I got to pick the last 4 through many option.s I just picked the catchiest one.

When I have to start paying for my own phone bill I'm gonna give out this number and get the cheapest plan possible.

I signed up a bit ago. It's just sort of sitting there, for now. I have no idea what I want to do with it.

I didn't have an invite and I was able to watch it. It's just a YouTube video.

yah, what are you talking about?

anyway, i have started giving it out to certain people ie professors/classmates. i like the listen in and screening options. i also like the customized voicemail option for different groups on the contact list.

I love it, some features I cant use right now, but the SMS is pretty sweet. I will be using it instead of my cell number for phone calls. It rings my Skype, Cell Phone, Home Phone and work phone all at the same time when someone calls me. It also has them say their name before it forwards the call to me, so I can choose to take the call or not.

I also like how my Google Voice number has a 69 in it. I have been using it for a few months now, and would pay a monthly fee to use it. Though, that is never in Google's plans when launching something, it will be free for quite some time.

It wont eliminate your phone lines all together, it will just make it easier to handle them all.

Uh... so it's nothing special. Only use I see for it would be to have a free message box. Otherwise.. meh.... I don't use a land line and my cell phone can call any state free of charge for infinite minutes (just so long as the battery doesn't die).
