to people who say that they believe whatever the bible tells them...

so basically if the bible says go jump off a cliff you will? if it says kill your mother or hate G-d you would? do have a problem with thinking for yourself or something? i just think that is stupid. you must have reasons other than just becasue the bible tells you. you must have a brain and be able to think for yourself...

personally i am jewish and i believe in the torah but i have my own resons for believing and disbaliving what it says. i does not believe everything, which do not make me any less faithful.

why do you "just" believe. don't you need some personal reasoning and what is it?

I guess I agree with you... Sooner or later people will (hopefully) start thinking for themselves... or at least question thinks of their religion.

I agree. Many people who believe in religon seem to be one-minded. It's either this or nothing at all. Most people that do practice a religon don't know why, they just do because it's what they've been told to do. It makes no sense at all.

At this point in my little life I'm not quite sure what I believe in. Sure I know there is something there, there has to be. But a man made book and people telling me what do isn't doing it for me. It's wonderful if you love God, and found something you Truly believe in but don't try to answer my questions with just because.

People believe in things they think are true. If they think it's true then let them think that, unless it can be proven not true with proof. The bible really doesn't tell you to DO anything. It's more of guidelines. If you want to follow them then follow them ,if you don't then no one is forcing you. If you're just annoyed that people make arguments using religion as their rebuttles, well thats what they believe.

mad.gif Well personally they are christian/catholic and believe in the bible. Are you saying the bible is more ludacris than the torah? There are many people like you who believe and disbelieve things in the torah and in the bible.

If i said, the best program to use for banner making is photoshop. Now say you agreed with me. Now if the bible said, You are considered a sinner if you...." Now say you agreed. People believe because they agree! They don't do it just because it is what they have been told to do. What about people who convert? From jewish to catholic. It's because they truly believe what is in the bible. You can't question someones beliefs. It's like questioning someones preference.

You guys make religious people seem like mindless people. They do think for themselves. They think that the bible is right.

no. i am merley saying that most christians just belive that becaus eit is "G-ds" book that it is automattically right. I have MY own reasons for believing or disbeliving CERTAIN things in the torah, not like most christians. MOST chritians think that if you dont believe all you cant believe any. i am just saying that you should think for yourselves instead of just saying "the bible says".

Many religions have those kind of people. It just seems alot for christians because there are more of them around. Don't Jews have people who strongly agree with all of the torah and follow life by the torah? I know a lot of friends with different religions and their parents and grandparents live by their religion, and follow everything. It just matters on your religious toleration.

I believe because i believe. There are many things in life you can't explain and there is no reason for you to explain. Just as people follow the law we follow God and the bible. By your reasoning, why should we listen and follow the law. Just because the law says so?

Very true.

Why would you believe in science, sure there are a lot of things that can be explained through science. And there are a lot of things that can be explained through the Bible.

I agree. Why believe things that are written down when they have no true proof. I don't believe in the bible, I don't believe in the Torah, I don't believe in anything having to do with one god, or many gods. I don't believe in any religion.

Well, no, let me phrase that better. It's not lack of belief, it's just lack of reasoning. I don't not believe, I just don't claim to believe anything. I don't believe in nothing, I actually, don't really care. Don't get me wrong, I'm not atheistic, but I'm not religious either, I'm agnostic.

agˇnosˇtic ( P ) Pronunciation Key (g-nstk)
n.

One who believes that it is impossible to know whether there is a God.
One who is skeptical about the existence of God but does not profess true atheism.
One who is doubtful or noncommittal about something.

Yes, I admit it. In religious areas I sit on the fence due to lack of care. I'm not saying you should see things my way, see things however you wish to see them. But also, somethings without proof I believe in. Like love...

If you don't believe in love, then you don't believe in anything...

So, I don't know exactly where I stand on this. Somethings are unplausable, but still real. You can't prove everything, but you don't have to believe everything either.

who cares? why cant you just accept that people would like to believe and have faith in something that you dont agree with and just leave them be? are we harming you in any way by being one-minded? speaking of being one-minded, id prefer to stay that way because i believe there is only one way to heaven..and thats through Jesus. so ill stick with following his word. we have too much of a sinful nature to depend and think for ourselves..in my belief that is. i mean what happens when a person is free to make their own decisions without a higher authority letting them know what is right and wrong? HAVOC is what happens..its natural, its how mankind is.

The Bible is a work of MAN, not God. There were several passages and chapters of the Bible that were CUT OUT by the early Church, who were desperately trying to erase all the HUMAN characteristics of Jesus Christ.

hahaha, id like to see some resources on that one

Religion is more of a political band-wagon than it is a matter of faith.

thats pretty interesting considering that nowa days its politically correct to not offend muslims, buddhists, and other religions but its alright to shutup the christians. its ok to offend and make us look stupid right? isnt that the reason why this thread was made? every single thread about religion is against only christians. why dont you make threads asking my buddhists, muslims, and any other religion why they believe in what they do? why do they only follow their holy books? seems to me Christians are being attacked..and we're very alone

I agree, i thought it was only me that people were attacking christians and im not even christian myself. "why do people believe what the bible tells them" well... "Why do jewish people believe what the torah tells them?" For the same reason. They choose to believe.

You said it for yourself, you believe in certain things in the torah for your own reason. People believe things in the bible for their own reason. How does your reasoning make you less mindless than people who have reasons to believe in the bible? You're just assuming christians don't have reasoning behind their beliefs. How about you assume that since im asian i eat rice or that i'm short.
