Or I did until this: "$595 plus a biometrics fee of $80; the fee total is $675." Jeez, I'm not that patriotic. Plus, my father served this country in the Air Force, yet he'd have to pay to become nationalized? Bull.
So I will trade someone here either Canadian or Iranian citizenship or a 1st-edition Charizard for their American one. |

How did your father serve the country?
Actually, I've never heard of special treatment for permanent residents in the military... The only special benefits I know for serving the country (while being an immigrant or a foreigner) are Filipinos who served during WWII http://www1.va.gov/opa/fact/filipvet.asp I'm quite lucky because my mom didn't care about how much she'd have to pay. She wanted me to be an American citizen for the benefits. And now I am. If you really wanted to be a citizen, you'd pay for it, even if you have to post-pone it. My mom post-poned it for us for a couple years... |

How did your father serve the country? Actually, I've never heard of special treatment for permanent residents in the military... He was in the Imperial Iranian Air Force before the Iran-Iraq War and went to Texas on some special training program with the U.S. When he was there, he defected and stayed with the American forces instead of going back. I don't know the full details of how that happened, but he was in the USAF shortly thereafter. And hell no I won't. They should be paying me to become a citizen. |

What are you giving for the Canadian one? Haha, just kidding about that, that really is bull about having to pay $675 just to be an American citizen. Gosh, perhaps it really is cheaper to go in illegally.

Well, I'm already here in California on a tentative status - I just can't vote or join the military (which I used to want to).

Don't waste your money or time... you're better off leaving this country. The end game of this country is communism. Americans have given up. I've been traveling in the last few weeks, I might be moving to Canada LOL

I consider myself a Trotskyist, actually, so I wouldn't care.
Why don't you move to Iran since you think it's so nice there? If you're Sunni, though, don't say you are or you'll be jailed. |

And hell no I won't. They should be paying me to become a citizen. Tell that to everyone who's had to pay to be a citizen. There's no special treatment. The only thing I know of right now about special treatment is that they're letting temporary immigrants (ex: student visa or something) join the military, got deployed for 6 months, and then letting them become citizens... Besides, if you wanna join the military, you can, if you're a permanent resident. I'd assume you were if your dad was, but since you're over 18, I guess it won't matter what your dad did,... Honestly, one reason why I'm glad my mom did it for me, is so I won't have to do it... Plus I hear it's much easier to travel to Japan with a US passport (at least compared to a Philippine passport, hah).. |

Tell that to everyone who's had to pay to be a citizen. Oh, the pleasure would be entirely mine. Everyone: I am better than you and deserve to be paid for allowing the privilege of my presence in your meager homeland. And no, I cannot join the military without a Green Card. The special exemption I think you're referring to will only recruit "up to 1,000 people, and will continue for a period of up to 12 months." |

Then I have to pay $115 to the INS, which amounts to me paying for the offering of my elite services to the military (since that would be the only incentive for getting a Green Card over full and actual citizenship).
This mercenary wasn't born yesterday, sorry. |

This mercenary wasn't born yesterday, sorry. I'm sorry, so do you wanna be a citizen or not? Let's see, you say you DID, but then you don't. (money-related) Then you DID, but changed your mind (military-related) So now what? It sounds like you do wanna be a citizen (duh, title), but you don't just because of the money. Yes, money's tight right now, so? You wanted to be a citizen for how long? You should've thought about it, then. |

You have to give thought to something in order to desire it. |

Move to a state with low taxes (as in, not California). You'll save at least $600 in one year. Or you could save that money by switching to Geico. I hear Texans are forced to pay for shit they don't care about, have an imposed state income tax, and have politicians that get mad and threaten to take away aforementioned "do-not-care" about services when funding for services is voted against. Oh wait that's California. Texas has none of that ~_~ |
