Does anyone know how long it would take for the chest to gain muscle? I'm working out trying to build up my chest but it feels like i'll never get the body I want.

depends on a lot of things.
how old are you? what kind of condition are you in now? what are you doing to build muscle? there's other factors but that's the basic stuff anyone would need to know to give you any kind of estimate. |

I'm 17, i'm doing pushups and i'm lifting the hand bar thingies. I just started 5 days ago. I can't do much since I don't have to the equipment. Is that enough ? or should I be doing more ?

Isolating at your level is the worst thing you can do for any one region.
Follow this. You should get gym access if possible, though. |

^ Thanks for the link. I did 90 pushups on 5/4/, 20 on 5/5, 40 on 5/6, 20 on 5/7, 60 on 5/8, and I just got done doing 41.
Is that good? i'm also trying to work out my belly. |

I don't get why you're decreasing the reps by day, but do the pyramid scheme as part of the full-body routine I posted. Pyramiding is sub-par for weightlifting but useful for calisthenics (body-weight exercises).

Don't do the workout everyday. It should be done three times a week.

Age doesn't matter..
All that matters is that you train. And by training chest everyday, that won't help, in endurance, yes, but not muscle size. Not only training of course but also eating healthy (healthy calories), but also eating at least 500+ more calories than your maintenance calories. Also after training, make sure to chug down a protein shake at least 30 minutes after your workout. From my understanding a window opens up between 30-60 minutes after your workout in which your muscles absorbs a lot more, thus is why many athletes, including bodybuilders tend to throw a scoop of creatine or two into their post work out protein shake. Like Reidar said, do a 3 day split. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, or Saturday. Oh and by the way, getting 8-10 hours of sleep every day is best for getting results, whether losing weight or gaining weight. One thing I must warn, it is highly recommended that you bump up your h2o intake as well, especially if you decide to throw some creatine into your diet. |

Age doesn't matter.. i asked his age becuase i think it matters in regards to cb. there's people here who are 12 or 13 who have asked similar things and i don't think 13 year olds should train the same or expect the same as a grown dude necessarily. maybe i'm wrong, i'm just speaking from my own personal experience. i thought i gained more muscle and got way more toned looking after i hit puberty and grew. ![]() he's 17 anyway though so it's no big deal. |

Got it . Oh, I only eat like one meal a day and I get full fast will that have an effect on anything for like the calorie intake? eating one meal a day indicates that you do not get enough protein or cals to even begin building muscle mass. it would be a worthless cause to work out on that diet. |

Then how do you expect to gain muscle? Muscle is weight. If you're gaining muscle, then you're bulking.
Whatever your weight goals are, you should be eating at least five meals a day so your metabolic and thermogenic rates don't slow. If you eat four 400 calorie meals instead of two 800 calorie meals your body will use more of the food as energy instead of storing what is left over as adipose tissue (fat) through lipogenesis, the production of more body fat. |

What I was thinking was I'll do push ups, and lift, so I can work out my chest and my arms. I really wanted to work out my chest cuz of these small man boobs I got when I was fat, and I wanted to lose em' because they irritate me. And then I also wanted to work on my stomach too.
&I didn't know like muscle was weight because I never thought I would start working out ![]() ![]() |

Moobs will go away from losing body fat. You can't build muscle and lose fat simultaneously, so you have to decide on one weight goal.
You definitely should not focus on your chest and arms, even if they're more of a problem area. Training your whole body will incite more growth hormone and testosterone release. |

Nah even 10 year olds can train. Training does no harm, just so long as the person training is responsible, and that takes patience and practice. |

Yeah, it's been shown that kids as young as 6 can lift heavy.
"The safety of this type of training for kids is well documented. Programs supervised by qualified coaches, and in which training loads are prescribed and monitored by professionals, have proven to be safer than typical physical education classes. Several studies since the 1970s have reported extremely low to zero rates of injury during training programs of from several weeks to a year in duration and have suggested that weight training prevents injury rather than causes it. Even the handling of maximal weights by children has been scrutinized for safety.Dr. Avery Faigenbaum showed that properly supervised maximal lifting in 6- to 12-year-olds resulted in no injuries, providing further evidence that even high-intensity training, properly supervised, can be a safe and healthy undertaking for children." -Rippetoe, Practical Programming "Tremendous benefits can be gained from an appropriately designed and implemented strength training program for children. The majority of the scientific evidence over the last 10 years strongly suggests that children can significantly increase their strength - independent from growth and maturation - providing that the resistance training program is long enough and of high enough intensity. The benefits may well reach beyond strength with improvements in other physiological systems such as connective tissue strength and density as well as improved physical performance and injury prevention (Kraemer and Fleck, 2005)." -Zatsiorsky, Science and Practice of Strength Training |

yeah i was just saying that i don't think kids should expect the same result as adults...not that they couldn't work out. i worked out a lot when i was 12...i got muscular and built after i'd grown up more.
he's 17 anyway though so it's no big deal. edit: and we basically know this guy is doing it more for looks not strength anyway. |

Shut your f****t mouth ^
Don't even have any clue about what we're discussing here. yeah i was just saying that i don't think kids should expect the same result as adults...not that they couldn't work out. i worked out a lot when i was 12...i got muscular and built after i'd grown up more. edit: and we basically know this guy is doing it more for looks not strength anyway. Well the results always vary but age doesn't a make difference. I had a friend back in highschool that was one of two of the biggest muscular students in our school. He started to train back when he was 11 years old. Hell even in middle school he was a horrifically huge. |
