I know you guys said to wait a while before I show you things that I made in GIMP but I've really gotten the hang of GIMP since my last topic.

I made a layout & a blend with the EXACT same 2 images of Ashley Tisdale.

Brushes in the background are from here.
Ashley Tisdale Images are from here.
I cropped the images by myself with GIMP.

Blend:

Layout:

PLEASE DON'T SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THESE BEING DISNEY. I KNOW NOT EVERYONE IS A DISNEY FAN.

The graphic is kind of good but the layout is way too plain. Try harder and take a longer break than just a "while".

Well someone's grumpy. No need to be so mean about it.

I don't understand what you guys & gals want me to do with the layouts. Don't just say add brushes or add this or that. EXPLAIN. I want to get my graphics and layouts to be really good!

You're just using a solid color and some lines to divide it up. It's too plain. Try making some custom navigation for the layout and look up some different and/or clean fonts. Add effects like shadows or something. Look around cB for some inspiration. Btw, CJ was just criticizing and you just got to accept that. He's not being mean, he's just being honest. mellow.gif

Ok then.

Small example that bothers me a lot. In the first graphic, "ashley" is nearly the same color as what's behind it/

Oh! So do a layout with an Image Map? What do you mean by different and/or clean fonts? I'll need to look up how to do shadows on text in GIMP. I've seen everything that cB has to offer and its a lot so now I'm looking around different sites.

I know CJ was criticizing me & being honest but he could've said it in a nicer way like you.

Okay... welll.... the cobbing looks good but it's a bit low in quality. Don't stretch your images out, if you do that. When we say "add brushes" don't add brushes randomly. Make it all go together. That's why your designs look plain most of the time. And like CJ said, the text color is too similar to the brush color in your banner. Do more with it. You should really take a look at the graphics we accept to get a better idea of what we accept and our standards. And yeah your layout is too plain as well. I think your banner should look the same as the one in your layout. Or be the one in your layout. Again, looking at other people's work will help you. I love Lenny's (so-sarcastic) and Marty's (staticsongs) layouts. But yeah just keep working on it. You'll get better with more practice. :)

The fact that you only saw it afterwards, says a lot. You need to look at your pictures and look for mistakes b4 you go, showcasing them.

Image manipulation software. Similar to Photoshop, but free.

Browse through the stuff on here and look at the layouts. I'm not trying to be mean when I say this but...some people just don't have what it takes.

Just kidding :) I really don't mean that ^

But ummm, okay the only thing I can tell you since nothing else seems to work is to look at an artists work and try to recreate it except put your own spin on it.

No dont, put your own spin. Dont try and be creative for now.
You cantbe creative if you cant immitate other people.

Did you ever try to do those tutorials I suggested? Until you can successfully do those you wont be able to do anything.

To be honest, I don't really see the point in replying to your topics anymore. You have a dozen people trying to help you, but it doesn't seem like you're taking any of the advice in. Your graphics still look the same to me. ermm.gif

I think people are going to stop replying to you if you just make stuff that's just the same.
And if you're thinking of using brushes, at least try to make them blend in -.-

You know what? Look up a lot of tutorials on Photoshop. Look at like 3D effects on Photoshop and what you can do with brushes, textures, text, and etc. Then, try to imitate those effects and tuts in GIMP. I know a friend who did that and now he' really good at GIMP and Photoshop. I forgot his site but if I find it, I'll PM you the link. Just do something you're not really use to doing. I'll probally look up some tutorials for you later.

I kinda have to agree with Gabi here. It really just seems your not taking much advice and that every time you do post something its nearly the same thing as last time. Then you have many cBers repeating what they originally said in past posts.

By blending in the brushes I mean that they should suit the image better. The brushes right now kind of make the image look too busy.
And the text... Ugh.
