Summer reading is the Devil

10 Honors

The Good Earth-Pearl S. Buck
The Count of Monto Cristo
Ethan Frome
A Seperate Peace

the only would I would suggest is a seperate peace. The good earth was decent until the main character told his wife she was ugly and bought a whore to live in his house..

For my high school, i have to read Ellen Foster by Kaye Gibbins, and There Are No Children Here by Kotlowitz. i read them already fo my 11 Amer. Lit class. no bad of books. i would recommend There Are No Children Here. u get a crash corse on urban poverty, violence, the projects and gangs in 1980's Chicago. really good book. also for fun reads i would totally recommend these for the girls:

*Gossip Girl novels (all 5 are soooo good!)
*Confessions of a Shopaholic novels
*This Lullaby
*Sloppy Firsts novels
*Can You Keep a Secret?
and the *Angus, Thongs, and Full-Frontle Snogging novels <---HILARIOUS!
there ya go! these aughta keep u busy over the summer! all are fantastic reads.

I have to read two books. I'm used to having summer reading assignments because I've been doing them since second grade (I'm entering tenth). That's what I get for being in every AP/Pre-AP class and Latin. Oh well, it will look good when you are looking for colleges.

I thought everyone had summer reading? I've been having summer reading since like, ever.

But it's usually a book from a list and another book of your liking (that should be approved by your parents)

Oh my god, summer reading is such a bitch! mad.gif I hate it so much.. this summer I have to read 4 freaking books. Their SO thick & the print is so small that it's hard to read. They are on the most boring subjects/topics too.. I do not know how I'm ever going to get through these 4 books by the time school starts.. ermm.gif At least I'm not the only one thats going through this. I can't stand how it's required too. And we get a test for it when we go back to school. AHHHH!! sad.gif

grrrness. we have it too. stubborn.gif

we have to read One Hundred Years of Solitude, which I have started, but it is highly uninteresting.
we also have to read Hamlet, which I already read in the seventh grade and I don't mind that play, because it is really good.

I have summer reading, the book I had to read is called The Bean Trees. I found it quite interesting throughout the whole story. I was addicted as soon as I read the first page because it was so fascinating and before I knew it...I finished the whole book.

Well, every summer, we are required to read books over the summer. But now when I'm going to 7th grade this school year, we have to read one book atleast from the list. I've already read that book, just gotta read it over again to make sure I get all the details. It will be sooo good if they have Harry Potter on those lists. happy.gif

No, but reading is easier than actually doing HOMEWORK. I have to do math and reading booklets 5 pages long for each day until tuesday or friday.

Who else here has required summer readings for school??  Thats another reason y i hate AP English...gaah! sad.gif
*

yea...I hate AP English too...we had to read the great gatsby, which in & of itself was a good book, but we also had to do:

1) a huge study guide (ch. 7 had 21 questions...and not just simple ones)
2) 300 some notecards (no correctional fluids allowed)
3) 90 some vocab words to locate in the book. and no, we couldn't just write the page number down, we had to write the whole freaking sentence too.

I'm still not done. Darn Teacher. And to think I'll have to do all of this for another book next year. mad.gif Ah, thanks for the post, I feel so much better now that I've vented lol tongue.gif
