Unless it was a Coke. Then it'd be alright. I've heard people call it a "fizzy".

My state calls it soda, and so do I. It sound really strange to hear people say "pop". It always make me think of something going pop rather than a drink.

I thought calling it "soda" was an American thing.

I say "pop". I call it "Coke" when it's actually a Coke.

Wow, that's pretty interesting that northern America (and I guess Canada haha) call it "pop", while the south calls it either "soda" or "Coke". Hmm.

I'm a "soda" person as well. I've only lived in the south for about a year and a half (well, actually, heading towards two) but I was told almost immediately that "it's coke here." I still can't wrap my mind around calling all dark, carbonated beverages "coke."

yep. if i'm meaning to refer to carbonated beverages as a whole, i'd call it "soda," but i usually refer to whatever i'm planning to drink by its name.

I think it's the entire American Midwest that calls it "pop." I have a friend from Pittsburgh who calls it pop, and that's almost midwest. But Western Pennsylvania is also the strangest region in America. And the deep South tends to call everything Coke, while the upper South sticks with soda. Because the upper South is awesome.

Well I'll be honest, back in D.R. when I used to drink Coca Cola in the glass bottles, we just called it, "soda" in general... but specifically called out the drink by its' name.

When I came back to the U.S., the very first time I've ever heard the word, "pop" being used to refer to soda, was from a little white girl I had a crush on. And from that point on, I've only heard White people say it... seriously. mellow.gif

I have black friends from out of state and they call it pop and it just sounds strange to me. But calling it "pop" isn't as strange as the majority of the people in my family who drink it warm and refuse to put ice in it. Typical Germans, I suppose.

^ Wow, I've never heard them called that. "Sharpies" sometimes, but mostly markers and colored pencils. Interesting!
