My parents are doctors, but they have never spoiled me with anything at all nor have they ever spoiled themselves. Ive never had a big party like that, i didn't get a car on my 16th birthday and i'm happy about that.
We're careful with our money we don't spend recklessly, especially now, and i was always taught that money will never be given to me and that i have to earn it.
I don't go on shopping trips every weekend and when i do go shopping its like a few times a year and even then i'm set a limit.

done

What?! Im not spoiled!?
Where did you get that idea?!
How many mortgages do your parents have?
We are very thrifty! Im sure we could live much richer than we do but we only have one mortgage and when we buy houses we like putting at least 30% down so the mortgage is low.
O! Are you refering to how much money i have juna?
I only have money cause i started a business. I dont get allowance.

I get a roof over my head.

My parents stopped giving me lunch money and allowance since I have a job now. But I don't have to pay for my car insurance which is good, so I think I'm average.

Your mother gave you a pink cage.

I think most people stop being spoiled at 18, but I know a bunch of people who are around that age or older (people I go to college with) who have their parents consistently fueling and refueling a bank account for them. It makes me sad/jealous.

I dunno though, when I moved into my house my mom spent about $200 on groceries/getting my room set up (the guys I live with basically had everything else, I just needed to furnish my room). That's not a lot of money, but I felt spoiled because I knew it was a lot to her.

Nope. Never had the luxury of getting expensive gifts or hand outs for that matter. By the age of 15 I had to get a job in order to pay for my clothes, video games, and entertainment. But it's all good, now I'm successful and I know that no spoiled brat will ever have to struggle like me and my family did. Thus making me more successful than them. thumbsup.gif

word.

i guess i'm spoiled in the sense that i usually get what i want, but i never really want for anything extremely extravagant. i'm just good at convincing my parents (my dad, especially) to buy me the things i think i need, i.e. texting, macbook, ipod, ihome, ... and the college kid essentials. my parents constantly offer me money, but i usually tell them "no."

LOL I've been washing my own clothes and cooking dinner for a family of five since I was in 6th grade, and never complained once about it. I wanted clean clothes (and I wanted it done right) and I got tired of eating boxed meals. It was just something I did because I liked the outcome. Same with dishes, I cannot STAND for the sink to be full of dishes.

My parents didn't mistreat me or force me to do chores to make me this way. I guess they must have just taught me to take care of what's mine.

My father wasn't around past the age of 3. I was pretty much the man of the house. Which in a sense was a great advantage because my mother allowed me to own an assault rifle and take up Marksmanship courses at the age of 18 for the sake of home protection. thumbsup.gif

I've been taking care of things on my own as far back as I can remember, but that's just because my mom has been ill all my life. When I was 10 she had major surgery and couldn't do anything, so I came home from school and cooked dinner for my family, did the dishes, the laundry, cleaned the floors, etc. My friends didn't really understand and told me that my parents were using me, but I was just pulling my weight, and I think in the end it helped me be more independent.

My parents will buy me things if I tell them I need them, but if I tell them it's just something I want as an indulgence, they won't buy it for. So if I was something expensive I have to tell them it will help me for school... but the expensive things I want usually are for school anyways.

Same, only since around the second or third grade. Mom was into her "theater" stage still at that point and someone had to take care of the kids. My grandma was there, but her husband hated us for being around all the time. lol He was cool though, I probably would have been sick of us too.

Then when my grandma died (I was in the seventh grade), mom fully embraced her inner child and I was back to being a full time older sibling. I cooked Hamburger Helper A LOT. haha I still love cheeseburger macaroni Hamburger Helper.

I can't really give a yes/no answer to this.

When I was a kid, my parents never really bought me any of the toys I wanted because we didn't have that kind of luxury. I did occasionally get some of the things that were on my wish list, but they were always from my relatives for Christmas or my birthday. And even though I've never really cooked a meal before, I grew up doing (simple) chores such as vacuuming the house, washing the dishes, doing the laundry, cleaning the bathroom (I actually loved doing this as a kid), and keeping my room tidy. My parents were also very strict with my sister and me growing up. My mom would always tell us scary stories to keep us from doing 'dangerous' things like jumping on the bed. They would punish us the 'traditional' Chinese way if we did anything bad. We even grew up hardly ever drinking pop and eating sweets because they were expensive/pointless.

But since the beginning of high school, my parents have been more... allowing. I mean, they're still very strict about things like staying out late (my sister, who's now 20, still has a curfew) and doing some chores; they just became more willing to buy us clothes and other material things we want. And plus they pay for our entire university tuitions and for our books without question, which is something I know a lot of college students don't get. And my parents have just generally always been very protective of us.

All in all, I'd like to say I'm not spoiled but I guess I'd be lying.

Edit: Whoa shit that was long.

I guess I am spoiled. I mean, I'm spoiled enough to piss my parents off. It's true when they say "Beenly, not all kids have the same thing you have."

Well, a lot of kids at my school have Wiis, Xboxs, PS3, nice designer clothes, nice shoes, and etc. But sometimes, I think to myself that people around the world don't have the luxury as we do in America. _unsure.gif

When I was younger, I used to get (close to) everything I wanted. Toys, clothes, anything. My parents weren't around much so they just bought me things I wanted to keep me occupied. I never did chores because my aunts were always around. I still don't even know how to do the damn laundry. I started cutting down on the asking for unnecessary things last year and started doing more chores though. D:

I don't see myself as spoiled. My parents don't usually buy me things unless I ask for them, but the things I usually ask for they're not willing to pay for, so I end up buying them myself.. which I'm very thankful that they let me do :D I think we could be considered 'upper' middle class, but we don't live like it.. the money is all hidden in the banks gaining yearly interest :O

I went to a private school when i was young and i remember seeing all my friends having the biggest houses and we lived in a not so big house, but my parents tell me that they always spent their money foolishly

^ that's exactly what my parents say.

when people have like big fancy house boats or huge houses with jet skis and motorcycles and blah blah blah.. big fanciness.. they say "well those people spend their money foolishly. They probably won't have enough saved up for their kids to go to college."

I don't go on shopping trips every weekend and when i do go shopping its like a few times a year and even then i'm set a limit.

done

But atleast we get to go to Japan for working hard at school (parents said we earned it)

When kids talk about their parents spoiling them by buying them gifts or just giving them money, I'm left in awe. It's a pretty foreign concept to me. I agree with JC, though.

What happened to good parenting?

*necroooo*

I didn't know braces were so uncommon. Whenever I saw someone with bad teeth, I'd be like "dude wtf fix yo damn teef." I never really realized that braces were expensive. I asked my mom how much mine cost and she said it was easily $3,000. eek.gif That's absurdity. Maybe it was $1,000 for me, my sister, and my brother = $3,000, or was it $3,000 per person? D:!! Either way, that is an absurd amount of money.

I am definitely a spoiled rotten little brat XD

I don't think im spoiled at all my parents just love me. Though they do usually pay my rent, bills, phone, gas, car insurance. They bought the car so i think thats why they pay for that stuff. I do give them money every time i get paid though. I'm sure that i give them more money than what all that stuff costs.

willingly spoiling your kids is one of the worst things parents can do to them imo. it's something way way too many don't ever grow out of.

So true...I guess that's why I'm the way I am now.
