For me it would have to be Nintendo. Nintendo is a 115 year old company now and they've been manufacturing greatness since the 80's. All of the consoles and handhelds they have released to date have been successes, with the exception being the virtual boy, as it was just something to keep the public entertained until Nintendo 64 came out. Not just hardware, software too. Nintendo games have been arguably some the best games of all time.

In my opinion, Sega comes in a close second. If they hadn't made some business blunders, Sega would still be around now, probably ahead of Sony.

The only reason the playstation franchise was formed was because of a grudge against Nintendo. When Nintendo cancelled the Sony cd drive for the SNES in favor of the Phillips CD-I for SNES, Sony got pissed off and made the PlayStation.

Microsoft sucks.

The earlier companines were good but they had one flaw: They all went out of business because they were too fixed on bringing arcade games to the home rather than develop new and innovative games.

Unlike the past, it costs millions of dollars to develop a hit videogame, that's why we're not seeing as much competition as there was in the earlier years.

And one more thing: Sony Playstation 2 was success was a fluke. Yes you heard me right. Originally, 1 million PS2's were supposed to be shipped to the US. But Sony couldn't make good on this promise, and they only shipped half that amount. So, even though not so many people were buying them, some stores sold out, because they had so few ps2's in their inventory. When people heard that the ps2's were being sold out in stores, people rushed to get them as soon as possible, creating the hype.

I love it how when Sony makes a mistake, they make millions and when sega makes a mistake, it costs them their hardware branch. Isn't life fair?

For me, the top company would be nintendo also. It is the pure gaming company. Back from its game and watch days to current, it's always thinking up new ways of gaming. Virtual boy was a failure, but it's innovative and from what I've heard, it's an amazing gaming experience. (I can imagine playing bomberman on it, and seeing bombs fly over my head, just an amazing experience)

Wow, I'm impressed. Not many people actually knew that there was a CD drive in the works for SNES made by Sony.

As for the best company...hmm..I can't choose. I would have to go with Nintendo or Sony. I have never actually owned a Sega system in my entire life, and that's something that I regret. As for liking Sony...that probably pisses off Kryogenix, but Sony really does have good software for their system. Sony doesn't have a set franchise like Nintedo with Mario, Zelda, et cetera, so you kinda have to respect them for starting like that. As for Microsoft...I do not hate Microsoft, as opposed to other people. I think, though, that they do have the worst software for their system. There are still many good games for it that came out recently, such as Ninja Gaiden.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I don't bother making a decision on what system is best or whatever. It's not about bashing other companies or whatever, it's simply about playing video games and having fun.

I don't hate companies either. I hate how some of their business tactics are unfair. Rather than create their own original franchises, Microsoft just buys them. Sony is riding on SquareEnix's back basically, using hype to sell videogames. Nintendo creates innovative games and characters, and gets shunned by gamers because their games are childish. Sega puts out one of the best consoles of all time with some really awesome games, only to be eclipsed by the ps2, which had only slightly better technology and a dvd drive.

I was basing this on both hardware and software. If it was software alone, i'd probably go with both Nintendo and Sega, but with other companies such as Konami and Capcom right behind them.

I always thought it was fairly common knowledge among those who actually play video games.

Anyway...best company? We could say Nintendo, sure. But without Activision, independent game developers wouldnt have beeen started. So I might have to say them. Although I am a big fan of Square-Enix. Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, and Star Ocean are some of the greatest RPGs ever. Capcom could also be in the run, making some of the greatest games of all time, including the Legend of Zelda series, which they co-developed..I believe.

Its really hard to say. I dont think there could be a definite response.

Activision was the first third party developer. If i remember correctly, they were spawned by the makers of Atari, Al Alcorn and Nolan Bushnell, out of disgust for the company they sold away.

Of course we shouldn't forget them, but just because they came first doesn't mean they are the best.

microsotf and sony hands down. ok, i know that nintendo is the reason that everything is even here today, because without nintendo opened doors to so many ideas, games, ect. but from the launch of the psx and the ps2, sony owned hands down. and when the xbox released it was an entire new ballgame. i know that the xbox still doesnt have the games and online cobatibility with everyone like tyhe ps2 has, in the near future microsoft will be opening more larger doors to ideas for video gaming. first off because of the company behing the controller... its microsoft people! with microsoft behind the wheel you'll see alot of customalization comming inb the xbox's direction. especially seeing that you can run linux on the xbox. the xbox is basicly a computer with controller ports.. i mean, the xbox has so much power for its time, and microsoft wasnt telling people all the things they could do with the xbox and its hard drive. with the mod chip installed and the costom cases, parts and acccesories you can add to the xbox, its amazing. you can put pc parts in the freaking system! thats amazing. nintendo has nothing on that... they cant even come close to that right now. and ps2 is comming right up behind microsoft with so many great games, and so many online rpg's/ sporting games. and with the new hard drive that comes with FFXI, sony is opening some new doors for themselves. so overall, in my opinion... microsoft is the best company right now.

They all have their strengths and weaknesses.

Nintendo has a very good reputation. But personally, Nintendo has more of a kiddie image to games from my point of view, such as now, the current Super Smash Bro, or way back when, jumping on blocks with question marks to get a flower?

Xbox is a pretty good machine, but I think it's more something Microsoft churned out for the competition between PS2 and Gamecube. I like Xbox because if it's ability to play online.

PS2- a variety of games, with a ability to play online, and games for all. This is my personal favorite.

Well i love Nintendo's game selection/character and the game developers that they choose, but you can't beat sony's hardware that they have been pushing out lately! Have you see the new PSP that they released for E3...DAMN. Nintendo's new platic-covered Nintendo DS has nothing against that. Nintendo even quoted that "they are not competing with playstation's PSP" (they just know that they are gunna be blown away.

But ya...nothing owns the old atari system and games biggrin.gif

wait, what are you talking about? the PS2 has the worst hardware out of all three next gen consoles. And the PS2 is pretty infamous for breaking. In fact, before the launch of the ps2s, the memory for half of the ps2s was defective. My friend has an NES, it's still going strong, meanwhile, his PSX and PS2 have both broke. Another friend has an SNES which has survived for ten years, and his PSX has only survived 3. If you'd like, i can quote people from OverClocked Remix who work at game stores. They always say how they had dozens of broken ps2s returned, and few, if any gamecubes and xbox's returned. The PSP is being delayed because of problems with the SDK.

Now, the nintendo DS is not Nintendo's main focus, yet i still believe it will be a contender against the PSP.

Are you kidding? Atari was great for beginning the videogame boom (props to Nolan Bushnell and Al Alcorn), but the games really didn't have staying power. The NES is what revived the videogame industry after the bust it had in the 80's. To this day, people still enjoy playing NES games.

Anyone who doesn't think Nintendo is the best is crazy. Had Nintendo not stayed "in the game" and made video games as popular as it did, none of these systems would be out right now. Know your roots because Nintendo is the root of POP CULTURE video gaming. Atari and Activision and Coleco were out first but were barely blips on the radar. NES spear-headed the movement and time and time again have proved that great graphics DON'T make the game. NINTENDO 4 LIFE!!!

Dude! First would be Nintendo cuz they brought life to the video gaming world if it wasnt for Mario then theres no meaning for old school No meaning for smash bros.

Second would be Konami becuase they make kick ass games like gradius, silent hill all that sh*t and they have that dancing crap i use to play.

third is Capcom for all the Megaman Games that brought happines to my life same with Street fighter.

and Team Ninja For hehe THE DOA SERIES!!!!!

And Last but not the least the great Bungie for the greatness of Halo Halo.

First place goes to SQUARESOFT. Or SQUARENIX Which ever you prefer. They are the biggest rpg selling company in the WORLD. So far, Their final fantasy series has yet to fail. They also made Kingdom hearts, and are still developing numbah two! That will be great.

Square currently makes the BEST FMV's for games.

Ever. In my opinion, they will not seize to amaze.

haha yes the old days.
When everything you could get for around 30 bucks. Awesome. Well, I'd have to say Sega. They sold a record breaking amount of dreamcasts. IF they'd waited a little while longer, say 2 or 3 years, they would've beat sony. Dreamcast was the first to also introduce online play with consoles. They also had the first 16 bit console ( i dunno if thats true i just made that up ). They still live on with their great sonic games and shows.

Third: Half life. Yes. You heard me. Half life. This title beats every first person shooter ever made. Half life takes home many awards: most mods for one game, first first person shooter game to be modded into a racing game, most played game (next to everquest), game of the year (1999), and COOLEST TITLE!!

Fourth: One word. HALO.

In your response, Kryogenix. Nintendo is too old to be alive. They should die.

It's not fake you Americans. It's real, I even have one in my house right now at this moment. I'm staring at it right now.

With PSX you can download photos from the internet or from the memory stick of your digital camera.
You can play any kind of cd.
Built in HDD and it has all the connections so it's just plug and play.
Plug in directly to your computer.
Two a/v outputs.
There are two versions. A 5000 and a 7000. The only difference is the mb. The 7000 has 250 mb. I forgot what the 5000 has because I don't own it.
Built in infrared for the dvd remote, just like on the Playstation 2 Scph-50001.
It has a tv guide in it for some reason. Since mine is the Japanese version, it shows Japanese television show. I don't know how the American version is gonna be like but be prepared to pay big bucks.
And the PSX Console is so darn heavy, you better hope that you don't drop it after you buy it.

Japanese Costs for PSX:

Sony PSX 5000 - 63,000 yen. Around $600 usd
Sony PSX 7000 - 80,000 yen. Around $800 usd

PSX pwns all other consoles, especially xbox.

welll nintendo has the consoles but ps2 has the games
nintendo has a whole line of consoles, each evolving step by step. same with teh game boys. its popularity is all in its portability. plus now u can hook it up to ur game cube {which is an AWESOME console...}
the games tho, aren't as popular as PS2... gamecube games are more for kids, more "cartoon like" such as smash bros, mario, ect ect. PS2 has most of the shoot-em-up-killing-blood all over the street type games... which i love biggrin.gif
