do you ever revisit one of your old hobbies and find that it's way easier for you now that you're older and get pissed that it was so much harder back when you actually cared about it?

i don't really know how to explain what i'm talking about or if this applies to very many things, but i think it applies well to sports. an example that made me think about this was riding bikes. i used to be into riding bikes in a tricky sort of way for a while when i was like 15 or 16ish. my friends and i wanted to ride flat land and do all the wheelie tricks and shit like that. it was really hard though because back then i was a shrimp. looking back comparing my weight, strength, and height to the size of the bike, i think it might have been physically impossible for me to do what i was trying to do in the first place. this afternoon though i got on my cousins trick bike and was messing around for the hell of it and everything was so much easier now that i'm grown up and strong enough to actually move the bike how it has to be moved to do the tricks. it just sucks because if i had had this ability back when i actually spent hours practicing this stuff i would actually have been good i think.

another example, is the fact that i cared about dunking way more when i wasn't able to dunk. i spent forever in the gym jumping around trying to dunk and spending a ridiculous amount of time trying to increase my vertical. then when this craze had somewhat worn off i hit a growth spurt and all the sudden dunking was possible. then i could dunk but i no longer cared about it to the same extent so it wasn't really as fun as it would have been if i had been able to do it before.

i duno i'm just rambling. i was just thinking how it's too bad there's so much stuff that i cared about way more when i was at a physical disadvantage than i do now that i'm grown up.

Now that I'm grown... I've actually gotten worse at some stuff.

I use to be real flexible when I was younger. Now I have to practice for a few weeks before being able to go into a split. And my drawing skillz have definitely diminished. I use to look and copy drawings pretty well but now my proportions are always off.

But I definitely write fiction/poetry better.

The opposite. When I was about 11 I was sponsored by Go Skate and I'd be shredding up the big half-pipe at Vans Skatepark. Now that I'm 240 lbs. it's a lot harder to keep balance on a skateboard, and my calves get tired from trying to stay stabilized.

i can't think of hobbies but this happened with food for me. i don't enjoy cupcakes or cake with too much icing or a lot of asian snacks anymore. i found a lot of it out after trying to reunite with childhood food; i was disappointed.

Right now I can get all but my last knuckle over the rim. I need a few more inches, but I'm goign to work on my vertical (which is shit, but pretty decent for my race).

Hmmm...

I was really into skateboarding and BMX. I was much better on my bike than I was on a skateboard, but I could still hold my own. When I was on leave, I pulled my bike out of my parent's garage and hit up the dirt trails. Barspins are easier, supermans are easier, toboggans are easier but it's only because I have the strength to handle it.

Skateboarding is a lot cause for me now. It just is. I could never kickflip... ever. I could heelflip all day. I could even 360 flip, but I could never do a basic kickflip. Now, I can't even keep balance on a board, let alone ride switch. It's almost discouraging.

Now that I'm grown, I can't bboy the way I used to. Powermoves were once extremely easy for me to do. If I do three windmills, or even a single flare, my body hurts. I guess I have to stick to popping.
