Studies show, if running late for class, only 10% of cBers would stop to give any aid to Sandy if they saw her bumming on the streets If asked, 32% of cBers would say this is the same size as this if JC, Brandon, and Carrie all told you they were. Ever been harassed by a mod who acted like a major douchebag, warning and banning you for no reason? Science says that if the roles were reversed, you'd likely act the same way. Studies show that 8 out of 10 cBers would torture the shit out of a puppy if Steven asked them to. wat |

this reminds me of that show that comes on where they show you these types of experiments. i don't remember what it's called but i do remember one scenario they set up. they had three actors in on it: a bartender, a male, and a female (who were out on a date first). when the girl got up to go to the bathroom the guy put something in her drink. the "test subjects" saw what happened, without a doubt. the girl came back, drank from the tainted beverage, and began to complain of a headache. the test was to see how many people would say and/or do something about it and how far they would go. i was surprised at how many people didn't say or do anything after they saw the guy slip some sort of drug in his date's drink. are people really that inconsiderate and selfish?

People are not "inconsiderate" or "selfish", because if you were in that situation, you would probably do the same. You can deny it all you want, but the evidence shows it. People fail to act when they are in a large group. For example, when someone is walking down a crowded street and they see a woman being sexually harassed by some thug (CRACK A JOKE AND DIE), they usually will do nothing. They have the mentality that someone else will take care of it. Ironically, we are more inclined to do something when we are absolutely alone.
QUOTE Studies show, if running late for class, only 10% of cBers would stop to give any aid to Sandy if they saw her bumming on the streets I read that it also depends on whether or not you were reminded to be a good Samaritan beforehand, i.e. you were asked to read a specific excerpt from the Bible. So that, combined with free time, you were much more likely to help somebody. Y'all need to read The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell. |

Y'all need to read The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell. i'll look into it. i won't deny that in every situation i would pass the opportunity to help someone in need. but i know if in specific situations like seeing someone slip something in someone's drink or a person laying in the road i would definitely do something to help. |

I have it on my shelf because I got it as a gift for volunteering. I took Psych 101 so we skimmed over quite a bit. The #1 experiment is insane. I would like to say I'm not like that but odds are I am. =( |

I love these experiments. But the thing is that after reading about these exact same things three times (AP Psych, PSYC 260, PSYC 241), it gets boring/annoying.
Anyway, if you really want to read about an experiment where good people turn bad, read The Lucifer Effect or any article on Philip Zimbardo or the Stanford Prison Experiment. That shit is interesting as HELL (get it?). The show was "What Would You Do?" |

I slept through pretty much every day of my AP psych class. Haven't bothered to take it in college because I didn't like learning the parts of the brain and stuff.

This entire thing is basically the same thing as "depends on the person" |

Everything "depends on the person", but the average action a population takes says a lot about how humans behave. Psychology is not about determining the exact behaviour of person, it generalizes how humans in general (duh) behave. It's such a misconception to think that studying psychology means that you can predict what someone will do or the reasons behind why someone does something.
lol thought you could get me there? |

lol thanks for explaining what psychology was suckaaaaa, i was completely unaware, but just to be a dick, the whole "People fail to act when they are in a large group" relates to the free rider problem. Also extremely common in teenagers with crime and drugs.

studies show that if asked, 30% of fine females would strip for Brandon Saunders if asked
and the other 70%, without him even needing to ask |
