just finished watching this..ahh this movie was sooooooo good. and it's 2 hours long too. i love movies that are long AND good. rarely does that happen. but yeah this movie should rank higher in the box office. even yahoo is giving this movie an A rating, and yahoo is usually harsh on ratings. if this movie doesn't win best picture of the year at the oscars, then wow..
rarely do movies such as these come along. But movies that start out as independent films like this one such as My Big Fat Greek Wedding, or Juno, rarely comes along. I love this movie. The producer took a simple storyline of india's version of Who Wants to be a millionaire, and turned it into more than that. the movie was about friendship, gratitude, love, betrayal, poverty and hope. overall, I love who they chose to play the parts for the movie. the actors were amazing and didn't dissapoint. you would think they have an A or at least a B-list celebrity in the movie to make this a credible movie. but there were none of those kind of high profile name celebrities. that's what makes this movie even greater. the girl who played Latia (Freida Pinto) was so great in this movie. I've never found Indian girls hot until I saw this movie. I mean wow. She was gorgeous. favorite line in the movie LOL "chilly on his willy" ![]() ![]() |

holy shit is this movie a crock. nothing like filming poverty like a jeans commercial or a music video. f*ck this racist, pseudo-liberal-soothing, poverty-exploiting, thoughtless piece of filth. it's not good. it's incomprehensible @ best. omfg only a moron could think this is good.

who the f*ck is armond write. obviously... a film critic? duh. "Also uniquely British is the film’s blithe condescension about the dehumanizing conditions of the former colony. Slumdog absolves the white man’s burden with game-show flash and shrillness. Boyle’s response to poverty and degradation is to go pop: Dogme videographer Anthony Dod Mantle uses a festive range of colors that gives false vitality to the soul-deadening action. Teeming crowds, hustling con artists, smiley/treacherous child-abusers, ethnic rioters, outhouse jokes, chase scenes and gunplay are used for excitation and shock. There hasn’t been a social drama this decadently over-hyped since City of God. Boyle plays the same game of pandering to liberal sensibilities while entertaining safe, middle-class distance." http://www.nypress.com/article-18907-the-m...illionaire.html |

I respect your opinion and all Nate, but you calling anyone who likes this movie a moron isn't very nice. ![]() yeah, i know. i'm sort of a jerk sometimes. honestly, it isn't the worst movie in the world (far from it). or even the worst movie of 2008 (far from it). but, truly, it isn't good. and, i'm sick & tired of hearing how amazing it is. that was my mode of release. SPEAKING GENERALLY TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: you're not a moron. you just need some learnin' or need to get off the MTV or something. not exactly. maybe you're into that sort of thing or something, iuhhhno. nonetheless, i highly encourage you to read FILM AS A SUBVERSIVE ART. alright, thank you, goodbye. oops. |

see MAN ON WIRE or LET THE RIGHT ONE IN or THE WRESTLER or MILK or PARANOID PARK or MY WINNIPEG instead. The only other movies that were playing at that theatre were Doubt, The Reader, Valkyrie, Last Chance Harvey, Hotel of Dogs, Bride Wars, The Unborn, and Notorious (which was sold out before Slumdog Millionaire). So we ended up going home. ![]() |

Nate, sometimes, even though you've been posting for a whie now, your pretentiousness still amazes me. Please, stop acting you're better than everyone else and that obviously, you are so anti-mainstream pop culture it pains you to know people have different tastes in movies than you.
I personally found this film beautiful; the cinematography was beautiful and I loved the cast. I thought they were all perfect and I loved that the kids they picked were actually believable when compared to the "adult" ones. I don't get why you, OR the critic, have so much hate for this movie? |

Please, stop acting you're better than everyone else and that obviously, you are so anti-mainstream pop culture it pains you to know people have different tastes in movies than you. "pretentiousness" is an anti-intellectual buzzword. you're a jerk for using it. it's not like i'm demanding some sort of undeserved importance or status, i'm making valid observations & displaying my frustration that no one else seems to see what is so obvious to so many other people. there is nothing "pretentious" about my opinion or my presentation of it, not really. it's a dissenting view, in the same sense, & from my position, maybe i should say you're being "pretentious." but, no, that would be granting your POPULACE ANALYSIS FAR TOO MUCH CREDIT. p.s. it's not an act. i don't have to act. of course i hold myself in greater esteem than most of my peers. shit, it only makes sense. don't you? obviously. I personally found this film beautiful; the cinematography was beautiful and I loved the cast. I thought they were all perfect and I loved that the kids they picked were actually believable when compared to the "adult" ones. I don't get why you, OR the critic, have so much hate for this movie? wow, you're just like every other fourteen year old that saw this garbage. instead of throwing around a bunch of buzzwords & turning egotism into a bad word, how about you actually ADDRESS THE CRITICISMS OF THE FILM! you know, actually engage in some sort of discourse rather than jerking yourself off: QUOTE don't you think the movie is reduced to a fairy-tale'd disney crock when it is completely engulfed by a love story? don't you think the movie looks like a jeans commercial? don't you think the entire thing is designed to be as easily digestible as possible? don't you think, when the film is pushed to its limits, it is not only nonsensical, but contrary? i mean, it's a movie about poverty... and the success of the protagonist is characterized in the winning of money? didn't his brother die in a bathtub full of money? uhmmm? or is actually thinking about the movie you watched too hard for you? |

People have their own opinions, & i totally respect it, it's fine. I thought the movie's incredible. I liked how there was no big-named actors, the story, plot, screenplay & direction just captured everything. It has an excellent chance of winning more than 2 Oscars. Me & my dad are literally glued to the TV until Sunday's Academy Awards show. Can't wait~
![]() Feb 24 2009 YES. Aren't you glad Slumdog won?! It won EIGHT Oscars. & to this Nate guy. I'm mature enough to respect your opinion, I can handle people like you, but it looks like you're just full of it. I respect yours, respect other peoples. & you're a Staff Alumni, set an example here. |

For f*cks sake Nate, you need to take your blown up head and get it out of your f*cking tight ass. You go around here acting like you're better than us all, well f*ck you. At least I am 21 and actually going to be graduating on time. We all have different opinions and yours my friend, IS NOT THE BEST. If anything, it's so far off base that it's laughable. You go around calling other people pretentious and what not, well f*ck, who do you think you are?! Honestly, you are usually not even worth responding to because I can guess what you are going to say; something insulting my intelligence and some bullshit about how I know nothing about the real world. Well mother f*cker, you can take me 3.8 GPA and suck a huge fat dick. I know plenty about the real world, perhaps more than you, I just don't feel the excessive need to be a prick. You used to be somewhat amusing, with your completely pointless rants about others stupidity, but now it's just obnoxious, like your replies. So please, do us a favor and GTFO. If you feel so superior to us all, why the f*ck do you keep coming back? You must have some sort of complex, you get off hardcore on being a douchebag who thinks he is smarter than us. Well sorry to say, but you are just douche. PEACE OUT MOTHER f*ckER, and no I am not going to reply to whatever extremely long and pointless shit you say to me.

Slumdog was so good, very sentimental to funny and a great relief at the end. Such a rollercoaster of emotions, wonderful movie.

Salman Rushdie had a few interesting words to say about the film. The full quote can be found here, but his summary is provocative:
QUOTE Boyle, when asked why he had chosen a project so different from his usual material, answered that he had never been to India and knew nothing about it, so he thought this project was a great opportunity. Listening to him, I imagined an Indian film director making a movie about New York low-life and saying that he had done so because he knew nothing about New York and had indeed never been there. He would have been torn limb from limb by critical opinion. But for a first world director to say that about the third world is considered praiseworthy, an indication of his artistic daring. The double standards of post-colonial attitudes have not yet wholly faded away.

I enjoyed the movie, its not something that I would go out of my way to tell people to watch. And I don't really think its full deserving of so many awards as well but whatever. It was good watch, if your bored pick it up.
