I use iChat (I have a Mac). It's pretty nifty. Before that I used Adium (which is only for Mac, I think). I used Gaim (now called Pidgin) for a little bit when I had a PC.

Definitely Adium, if you have a Mac. I've been using it for almost 5 years now. It's great.

I guess Pidgin is okay on other platforms, but even Pidgin pales in comparison to Adium's awesomeness.

Why do you need a 3rd party IM program? Too lazy to type?

Third party IM programs combine your IM accounts into one program.

I use Pidgin. I really like Trillian, but Pidgin will do. For it to evenc compete with Adium, it needs plug-in on top of plug-in.

I just downloaded Adium. It beats my iChat's butt!

I use Trillian. It works really well for me and I've never had any problems with it.

I always used Trillian. But that was years ago. I don't know if it's any good now. I rarely use any IM client these days thanks to the Facebook chat client and the Palringo app on my iPhone.
