I know this might be old, but I just heard about it. Obama's not a US born citizen, yet why was he eligible to run for President? Wasn't one of the rules to run was to be a natural born US citizen? Someone told me, there was some cover up and conspiracy about how he faked his birth certificate and how he was born in Hawaii or something.

he was born in hawaii, after it became a state. so he was a born in a U.S. state = he is a natural born citizen.
hawaii became a state in 1959 and obama was born in it in 1961 mccain wasn't born in a state though! he was born in panama. but it was a naval (i think?) base so it's all good for him too. |

There was this thing that he was actually born in Kenya. Some family relative of his has gone on the record saying she/he witnessed his birth there.
But of course NO ONE will say anything about it. |

Ya, his grandma did say that. And when some reported asked Obama which hospital he was born in, he said the one on the west side of HI. But when they asked his sister, she said that hospital on the whole opposite side. So they do not have their story straight. |

Because this is an OLD RUMOR that was debunked a while ago when the state of HI confirmed that he was born there. It doesn't really matter who said they witnessed what, that doesn't make it factual. |

yea, obama was born in Hawaii raised in Indonesia and then moved back to Hawaii, then to chicago for law and eventually to Illinois where he was nominated for presidents (I know because we reviewed this in history class), I believe his first set of parents were kenya and white (which he is ) then after a divorce, they moved to indonesia?

There's a law that says you're still considered a natural born citizen is born on an American military base. Nevermind that that law was made specifically for him.. |

You'd think people would be trying to say he was born outside the base and that his parents forged the birth certificate or something. |

I know a lot of this was said already but I'm going to say it again anyway.. lol
Obama was born in Hawaii, a US state. He was not born in Kenya, his father was born in Kenya and died in Kenya as well. John McCain was born in Panama and yes, I believe it was on a Naval base, which I supposed makes him a US born citizen. So they are both eligible to run for the Presidency. That is not, by any way, something that would be overlooked by anyone and let that slip through the cracks. |

I'm not arguing that with you, because the numbers are not definitive. And while I'm sure you may live in a liberal area, the way you whine about liberals, I live among racists. Didn't help him for a second here.
How is that relevant to the conspiracy theory being discussed in this thread, anyway? |

lol it's not racist, it's the truth. he was born in a state, he has a birth certificate and the state says he was born there. same as every other presidential nominee. if he was white that would be plenty of evidence.
Let's think about this...if Obama's father were white, would we even be having this discussion? exactly. |

The truth is, none of this matters anymore. The bottom line is that he won. If he wasn't a natural born citizen, he would not be President Elect. It is in the Constitution that this must be so in order to run for position. In my opinion, Republicans (not all), conservatives, racists, and more, are just looking for more reasons to somehow shine a negative light on a very intelligent and deserving person who won an election in the fairest way possible. The overall acceptance of a President who happens to be just as much African American as he is White, is outrageous. Or bosses are African American, as are our teachers and coaches. He is the future of this country. Whether it is a positive or negative future is still yet to be seen, but our future nonetheless. Now I know that this is not a direct answer or response to the original post in this thread. However, this is where it originates from. (Not making any judgments on the person who started this topic. I assume it was just a general statement which was heard through the grapevine, so please take no offense to my comments).

^Yeah, that's not actually true. If he were actually not born in American, it would have to be confirmed before he was inaugurated, and he would not become president. The qualification, evidently, doesn't apply to being elected. (In response to the first three sentences.)
It doesnt relate at all, I was just replying to someones comment. Although, you have to think of the US as a whole, not just my neighborhood and yours. Ya know? What exactly are you referring to then? Because on a national scale, I don't think there's any real foundation for what you're saying there...which is why I assumed you were going by what's around you. But like I said, I really don't care to discuss this with you. Especially not with you. |

So I appoloigize for a repetetive answer if you have. |

how does color not have a role in the matter? i mean maybe it doesn't but i think it's silly to say that like it's fact or something. i think color has plenty of role in the matter because i already said if he was white i don't think this would be an issue. he has all the evidence needed to prove he's a citizen and has just as much as every other white candidate, more really, and it's still an issue to people. why is that he's held to a higher standard than his white counterparts?

Someone may have already posted this, but I haven't seen it.
How Obama Got Elected This is why I was against this whole movement of getting everyone to vote this year. Yeah, it's great to vote, but this is the kind of ignorance it brings in. People shouldn't be made to feel like they have to vote. They should vote when they feel comfortable and informed enough. It's also a great example of the amount of control the media has in this country. It's sad, really. No other way to describe it. Keep your bashing at bay. This isn't an attack on Obama and it has nothing to do with my personal opinion on the outcome of the election. I just think it's interesting to see just how stupid some people can be. Hopefully this will spark some intelligent discussion, but I won't hold my breath. |

The video on that site is absurd...not because it's showing people's ignorance (both sides did that for months. Too many Americans are ignorant, we know this), but because it says they interviewed "the most informed Obama supporters they could find" to show how little they knew. If someone doesn't know what party controls congress, that person is by no means well informed. It makes no sense to say that people were misled by the media, when these people obvious don't make any effort to stay informed. Really, this is just rehashing the same shit that went around before the election. Bias bias bias. As we've seen, you're not going to get better results from McCain supporters. This is not a partisan issue, as sites like that make it out to be, this is a cultural issue, because as a people we are far too enamored with stupidity.

Nicki, I had my doubts about them being the best informed they could find as well but after I thought about it there's really no reason to. Unfortunately, they don't indicate where the questions were asked or any further details. If it were in a place similar to where I used to live, I wouldn't doubt it one bit. I disagree that the video doesn't show how much we are controlled by media. Could you elaborate on your argument a bit? They asked questions related to media. They also used stupid statements that politicians have said and the voters automatically assumed they were made by Sarah Palin or John McCain because certain media has made them out to be stupid. They knew all about Palin reading all the magazines, but none of them knew about the statement Obama made about campaigning in 57 states. The whole Sarah Palin/Tina Fae question also shows the impact media has. I'm sure you see where I'm coming from Nicki because you actually have some sense, but I want to reiterate the fact I'm not arguing who's smarter or who has better supporters for those to stupid to see that. And that brings me to my next response...
I guess my prediction that someone would take this completely out of context and start bashing McCain supporters was correct. I don't believe I or anyone on that site stated that the video is an indicative of all Obama supporters. It was a select few in the area in which the questions were asked. The website clearly states that, although I doubt you took the time to read the entire thing. You should probably stop sucking on Obama for a little while and watch the video with an open mind. It's just showing how uninformed some voters are and they picked Obama because it really wouldn't make sense to do it on McCain voters, seeing as he didn't get elected. It sparks more viewers that way. But, that's how my independent, unbiased mind views it. It could be an attack on Obama supporters. I can see how a closed mind such as yours might think that. Seeing as my only point was how uninformed voters are, I encourage you to find more videos. I'd like to see what you can find. |

Maybe you're not, but that site pretty much is. To be fair, I'd only watched half the video when I posted that response; I've since finished it and watched the Fox News clip. It doesn't matter where they were; if those were the best informed people they could find, they didn't try hard enough. It would not have helped their cause to tape people who were actually well-informed. I could answer the vast majority of those questions (admittedly, I knew nothing of that coal industry remark, but I fully intend to research it).
They didn't show that clip about the 57 states in its entirety; it seems fairly obvious that he misspoke and meant 47 states. He'd visited 47 states, had one more to go, and wasn't visiting Alaska or Hawaii. 47 + 3 = 50. I'm not trying to blindly defend here, but good god, you can't have a video on how the media misrepresented things and then do it yourself. Same for the Russia question: he was asking multiple choice questions, with the choices being Biden, McCain, Obama, or Palin. Not Sarah Palin vs Tina Fey. SNL is a comedy show, and has no obligation to present accurate news. But of those four choices, Palin was by far the most correct. If "I can see Russia from my house" were that far a cry from "we're very close to Russia," it would not have made a good joke to begin with. So I absolutely do not think anyone can be faulted for thinking Palin said that; it was a trick question. If this guy has to result to asking trick questions to make people look dumb, he probably does not have a very strong argument to begin with. But anyway, I don't think it's the media's fault that people don't bother to read comprehensively. All of those things were shown on tv, or printed in the papers. It's not like the headlines consisted of SARAH PALIN SAYS SOMETHING DUMB AGAIN and never mention the fact that Nancy Pelosi is speaker of the hour. For f*ck's sake. Those people were not "informed Obama supporters," they were "informed partisans" at best, as they clearly chose to ignore every piece of information that did not suit their interests. If all you watch is the Daily Show...yeah, you're not going to get a particularly well-rounded view of the political environment. However, the same goes for people who watch Hannity or O'Reilly. |

Besides, smoke, you're clearly focusing on one side of the media issue. The media also helped to cement false ideas about Obama, too: how many people, after watching news programs, were convinced that Obama was a Muslim, that he wasn't born in the US, that he was a socialist, etc.? The media is neither liberal nor conservative -- its only loyalty is money.

^i dont think the last 5+ posts were helping the topic. i thought the topic was why obama was elected president b/c he (supposedly) wasnt a US born citizen. (which was rong). therefore isnt this resolved because this whole argument on "why is obama president" can go on and on and on and on.

It is not racist to question Obama's birthplace. Alan Keyes is suing Obama, and he is black.
Obama never showed his birth certificate, only a Certificate of Live Birth. Obama is a usurper, the whore of Babylon and the anti christ. People should have voted for Kucinich or Gravel, or Nader or Paul not this guy |

Believe me. If Ron Paul or Ralph Nader did run, I would have voted for them.
Obama is just...not ready. But I'm willing to give him his chance. |

this ancient topic isn't even a month old. but besides that, it was bumped because that yak person made a duplicate of it and i linked this one so he brought his opinion over here.

Oh. I just saw that in debate. My bad.
The whole subject is just old. He's going to be president. People just need to move on. |
